The jackpot money has to come from somewhere! So, money used for generous free play, comped rooms and meals, prizes and gifts all detract from making the slots looser. That said, I can’t predict how much the slot payback % is affected
I find this video pretty accurate. I have heard some of this info before and from a lot of Northern California casino playing and Reno/Sparks playing, I can say that Reno/Sparks definitely pays much more than Northern California slots. And Tahoe slots, with 3.5 casinos competing against each other on one street, pays better than the Indian casinos of Northern California. Thunder Valley in Northern California, with its very nice decor and size, is the equivalent of a Vegas Strip casino with its low payback, compared to Cache Creek or Graton, both of which are also in Northern California and have higher payback than Thunder Valley, but aren't quite as big.
The Hold in South Lake Tahoe is about 11% on Pennies. This is slightly better than the big Vegas Strip casinos, which are about 11.8%. But, North Lake Tahoe Holds are closer to 8%, which is somewhat closer to Carson City. I haven't found Graton to be as loose as your experiences, but River Rock is definitely looser than Graton. Cache Creek is a mix - their 95% zone and selection of newest slots gives them an advantage.
I love Professor Random, even if he thinks my love of "razzle dazzle" machines is crazy. I will say, I think I'm much luckier than most on those types of machines. I also tend to convert all my free play at video poker and have far better returns doing that. Great video!
Thanks! Glad that you like Prof. Random! As for razzle dazzle games....if you enjoy them, go right ahead and play them as much as you want! It is, after all, about entertainment!
I am not sure, but I guess that a new potential outcome comes up at least a 100 times a second. A jackpot on some machines might come up every 10,000,000 spins or more.
There are some websites, such as the WizardofOdds that tell you what the payback %s are for different types of video poker and pay tables. Bookmark one on your phone and you can consult it the next time you see a video poker game.
I believe the RNG has a internal clock when machine goes past its payoff percentage it is designed to maintain that payback by holding more coin in otherwise you lose.
What you say is closer to what happens for Class II slot machine (so-called Bingo or Electronic Scratcher Ticket types). Class II slots give out winnings based on the total money put into the pool, minus a percentage cut for the casino, etc. Class III slots (so-called Vegas style, for which this video was about) does not have a theoretical limit to what can be paid out. While the odds are microscopically tiny, in theory, a single slot machine could give you two or more Jackpots in a row. In other words, the PNG does not change behavior based on how much it is paying out.
What areas in casinos are there loose slots? Some say in high traffic areas, like restaurants, gift shops, etc. Also, are the odds better of winning at slots during the week compared to a weekend? i talked to someone and said he noticed slot machines are tighter on Friday and Saturdays.
The placement of looser slots inside a casino depends upon many factors. Often, the big flashy “Licensed” slots that feature Movie, TV, music brands, etc., are put in high traffic areas. These slots are tighter. For older simpler slots, the answer depends upon the Slot Manager’s strategy. Maps of the slot floor are produced by software that indicate where hot spots are for certain types of players (big spenders, locals, out of towners, gender, age, etc.). If the slot manager thinks it would be good to show visitors a player winning a lot, maybe they’ll put a loose slot near the entrance. If you want to soak up money from players that sit down at the first slot they see, maybe the tighter slots are put there. Same can be said for other areas. But, slots might also be placed such that looser slots are in less traveled areas so that tighter slots in more traveled areas can soak up more money. In my experience, the looser slots tend to be found in less traveled areas. As for changing payout % on the weekends, etc. - that doesn’t happen. The exception is in a few small foreign countries (from what I’ve been told) where local regulations are sloppy.
@@RandomSlots yeah I read the same thing about loose slots near the.entrances. You also mentioned they would.put slots in less traveled areas. What would you describe areas that are less traveled? Thank you for your feedback
650Giantsfan Less traveled areas depends upon the casino. For example, in the Gold Coast in Vegas, they gave a 2nd floor where the loosest video poker is found. In the Peppermill in Reno there is a hallway that has older slots where they have looser slots.
@@RandomSlots I should make the trip to Reno. They do say casinos there have loose slots up there. I am in Northern CA , and all casinos here are Indian casinos. Feel like they have much tighter slots than land based ones

There is one area I am very interested in -- server based gaming. What percentage of places can do it? Can all countries do it? Why is it even legal to change the payback percentage part way through the day? Take care my friend!
Thanks for the mention! SBG is getting to be much more common these days, and I'm going to guess that almost all major casinos have converted at least part of the floor to it. Smaller casinos have less incentive to convert because they tend to have fewer new slots. I don't know about country laws on SBG, but I don't expect there to be much of an issue if regulations are in place. Changing payback % is a regulatory issue, much like the setting of minimum Payback %. I was once told that no U.S casino changes the % mid-day, but that there was a non-U.S. country that did allow it (I did not learn which country). Also, the machine has to be taken down to change the %, so it can't change while you are playing. However, if you are on a multigame platform and you change games, a new game and thus payback % is loaded in.
Random $$ Slots that’s all very accurate info, and very in depth. I guess a close friend or relative in management, as this information isn’t usually front line staff.

I don't know that much about NM, but I suspect there are some Class II machines (Bingo style) there, mixed in with Class III (Vegas style). I would guess that the slots are "average" for casinos, but tighter than the off-Strip casinos in Vegas
Wowwww thank you for the info . I know the house always win. To me only 1 machine could hit a jack pot.the rest will eat your money.I don’t know if playing max or less will help u win something? If u play less u lose the jack pot and if u play max u run out of money😩😩
To answer your question, you lose your money at a faster rate percentage-wise with smaller bets. You lose your money faster in absolute dollars at Max Bet. On the other hand, one in 50 million players that bet Max Bet wins a “life changing jackpot”.
By the way, I talk too much when I'm writing comments so no need for you to comment on any of this. This is excellent tutorial. From SOS I've learned an awful lot of it that I didn't know before but not everything you explained. I like that you had all the information arranged logically in one place. I bet that Oregon Lottery has a lot fewer rules for changing payback %'s and that they do it a lot more than casinos do (like the example I sent you about Big City 5. ) I was surprised by some of the examples you gave on paybacks for machines. I've been staying away from Jackpot Inferno because I always do terrible on it. It may be set on one of the lower %'s in Wendover or I may have just not played it at the right time. I've become a frequent video poker player. Used to just play it for $0.25 to kill time when nothing was hitting. Now I've been studying some of Dancer's printed guides and also practicing on some free software from elsewhere. Liked it that you explained the 9/6 Jacks or Better. Little boring to me though so I usually play 8/5 Bonus Poker that is the next best in payback % plus more interesting. I like the intellectual stimulation of video poker plus you can at least stay even for a long time. It eats up time when you have a limited budget and lots of time to use up, like at Wendover. You are there the length of the trip no matter how you are doing. Not a high volatility player though SOS has convinced me to try Komani at minimum bet and it was pretty entertaining and I did get some good pays. Back to Wendover on the 29th. They are definitely a captured market but I always have lots of wins there and I do see many hand pays going out to people. Know a couple other people who gamble there who have said the same thing. Just our random luck I guess. Oh, I have to come to Reno even if it's alone. Lesson 5. It's possible I've had good wins because I play so very many hours so might be lucky enough to hit on one of higher % payback machines. $1 days are gone though. Probably won't get platinum tier again so might as well play like SOS. The money will last longer and you might have some good wins. Isn't it funny though how some people always seem to win more than others. There is a couple that go to W and she consistently wins and he doesn't. Is there a reason for that or is it just randomly happening? So much to think about. Thank you!
Glad you liked the tutorial! Yes, Video Poker is a good way to make the money last, unless your casino has it set very tight. The more "razzle dazzle" the Video Poker has, the more likely it is that the payback % is set lower.
Wendover has only a few video poker machines that paid 9/6 for Jacks or Better or 8/5 for Bonus Poker. I knew where every single one was before the big remodel. Now I know where one 8/5 Bonus machine is and if I can find it open consistently, I don't have to search for the others. I too play $0.25 x 5. Over $1 but I think it's worth it. That $100 for 4 Aces comes up often enough. That one bank of 6 machines where I know 1 has good odds is out in the middle of the casino. The rest of the video poker machines are on the edge of the casino walls back in a corner. That shouldn't really make a difference should it? Just feels like it does. As long as it's 9/6 or 8/5 it should have the same payback percentage.

That's why those of us born 3/4 of a century ago love them so much. Can't highlight or underline or write notes in the margin of these electronic aids.
I heard “location” as in geography, but no mention of “location” inside a casino. I’ve heard machines closest to walkways, doors, cashiers, tables, bathrooms and on rounders have higher pay percentages. Is there any truth to this belief?
Simple question, complex answer. The short answer is that it depends upon how the slot manager wants to play it, so who knows? The long answer is that other factors probably have a bigger influence on which machines are looser. Professor Random mentions some of these factors, such as the Licensed games that pay royalties to name brands - these games tend to be tighter and they are often placed in high traffic areas of the casino to attract the most players. Another factor is the age of the slot machine. Because many casinos slowly tightened up slots over the past 10 years, you may find that games that came out in 2010 or so are a bit looser than the most recent slot games. You tend to find these older machines in lower traffic areas of the casino. Modern slot machine tracking systems can give slot managers a good feel for what types of players like to play what types of games. They use the player cards to do so. They can see a map of where all the "locals" like to play in the casino, or where players from a certain city like to play, for example. They might then try to mix up the placement of the games to get these types of players to play certain types of new games. You won't find these types of sophisticated player/game tracking systems in small older casinos, but the big casinos with lots of new machines have them.
After having rewatched this video, I wish more of the RUclips slot channels had viewed . I appreciate all the channels who watched and commented but there are some individuals who persist in saying there is no difference in casinos or that it is just timing. And in that vein some said they have to open all the machines to change payback which is patently false. Anyone needing more conformation of the truth can go to casinocitytimes.com .
For older games it is not false. Plus, even for newer games, Joe Slot Tech guy can't just go to the IT room and make a change. There's permissions and applications with the respective gaming board that must be approved.

I love your little professor - though he doesn't look a bit like you. ...I like all your additions and improvements too. Why don't you publish a book?
Books are soooo last century....
That's why those of us born 3/4 of a century ago love them so much. Can't highlight or underline or write notes in the margin of these electronic aids.
Just use a grease pen and write on the display....
Thanks for the information.
Thanks! You're welcome!
Great video! Thanks for spreading knowledge! 👍👍👍
Thank you! Glad that you found it interesting!
Nice job!
Thank you!
This is why I always play video poker to convert my freeplay into cash. 😃
That is not a bad approach, particularly if you can find that rare Deuces Wild game with better than 100% payback!
Thank you very much for video it's helpful
You’re welcome!
I look for 9/6 Jacks or Bettr or 8/5 Bonus and study Dancer's strategy manual. Makes the money last longer but not too entertaining.
I agree...lasts longer, but less exciting
That’s why you play video poker to try and get ahead, then slots for fun. Gotta do your homework and know where to play and learn the strategies
Sounds like a plan!
After having rewatched this video, I wish more of the RUclips slot channels had viewed . I appreciate all the channels
who watched and commented but there are some individuals who persist in saying there is no
difference in casinos or that it is just timing. And in that vein some said they have to open all the machines
to change payback which is patently false. Anyone needing more conformation of the truth can go to
casinocitytimes.com .
Have you seen RandomSlots.com? Also, Professor Random’s video on volatility?
For older games it is not false. Plus, even for newer games, Joe Slot Tech guy can't just go to the IT room and make a change. There's permissions and applications with the respective gaming board that must be approved.
When I Heard A Million Spins I Laughed So Hard!
LOL...better start spinning now!
The kind of people who believe slot machines are random, also believe that robots have feelings.
Technically, slot machines are pseudo-random. And, they are working on robots that have feelings ;) (no joke)
isnt he cute ty for the info
The Professor is blushing....
Why don't you just show your face
I’d break the RUclips display! ;)
Random $$ Slots Well, VegasLowRoller finally showed _his_ face not too long ago.
I shall remain the International Slot Player of Mystery...😎
Random $$ Slots let me tell you little something the slot machines I've see you play like wizard of Oz I've seen what you look like they the machines like I told vlr and then when he showed us I already knew what you expect lol
That was The Goose that you saw in the reflection... 😎
