Hahaha. That's not a pizza. ilcapriccio.es/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/73.-TIROLESE-e1490699972362.jpg That's a pizza. (Lo Sciatore, Strada Vittoria, Dolonne is a good place to try several pizzas but bring several friends *per pizza* because they are big).
Where's the elevator music coming from? It's melting my brain! Wait! I take it all back - The Tesla Q3 Earnings Report, pre-event "muzak" was playing in another tab! edge.media-server.com/m6/p/omd73p8r/dmediaset/audio
Next time you guys are in New York, you should see if Mikey Chen wants to do a collab. He can take you to the best Chinese, Korean BBQ, Hot Pot/Shabu Shabu and pizza places!
Ok I’m a few years late on this one!! To give you a timeline I just watched your sprinter van trip to South Dakota (which I love) on Fourth of July 2021! I’m a native northern NJ lady so I’ve grown up with NY pizza! I’ve tried pizza in Boston, Chicago (more than once...gotta go for the contrast) ... I still love NY pizza best (even the $1 slice)! I have a challenge for you... find the best coffee ... in the Midwest. Not Starbucks or D&D... it’s been a long time since I’ve driven out west but I have found that the coffee gets less coffee and more hot water the further I get from NJ until you get to the other coast! Maybe it’s not true anymore? Maybe I’ll try again net summer. Love your adventures and wish I was there...but I’m having the best time watching you have them for me! Cheers y’all!!!!
To me, pizza is a go-to "cheap eat". I'm sure the $9 slice is good, but with everything else you could buy for $9 in a big city like NY I'm not sure this is what I'd want to spend it on. Thanks for the comparison!
The $9 "pizza" looked more like an open sandwich to me, personally I'd take the $1 slice all day. I now just have to save some money for the flight over to the US ($1 pizza would probably be all I could get if i did that) :D
I'm in England, as far a I know there aren't any £1 pizza places here. New York is one city I've always wanted to visit, so trying the pizza would be a must (for me at least).
Thanks for watching! The second pizza was made with pizza dough (the same as the others served there), but without sauce. So not Focaccia, but probably not pizza by some people's definition 👍
Well I’ve made it !!!!!!! I stumbled onto your channel by accident and was hooked. I can’t remember where you were but it was about number 230. I decided I wanted to see the beginning of your Endless Adventure so I started with vlog number one about ten days ago. Your total at that time was 465. I have watched each one almost continuously and have now caught up. It was interesting to see how Eric’s camera persona has grown and matured from vlog number one. I am a 72 year old British pensioner, with mobility problems, living alone in Spain. Thank you for taking me on a little holiday with each one. You are so natural and unassuming it is a pleasure to share time with you. I have subscribed and have rung my little bell 🛎 so I shouldn’t miss any. Thanks again for the pleasure you have given me. Xx 😘😘
I’m almost 33 and disabled and bed bound a lot and just started binging their videos and I absolutely love them! So glad I can experience the world with them even if I’m stuck in bed! I really enjoy watching!
So the comparison isn’t really fair. The $1 slice is from a classic NY-style pizza. The $9 pizza is a Roman style pizza, known as pizza al taglio. But I enjoyed watching you guys eat it! Thanks
Thanks for watching! The goal was to compare the cheapest vs most expensive slice we could find, not the same kind. But we'll definitely be trying more Pizza when we're back through NYC ✌️
On no planet was the expensive pizza pizza. It was baked flat bread with ingredients placed on top. Would have loved to have seen you compare cheap cheese pizza to expensive cheese pizza without the extras. Fun video as always.
+Baking Sweet Hope> Right. What would the $1 pizza cost and taste like with all the addons, or the $9 slice with cheese only? The $1 slice with 3 toppings ($2 each per menu) would cost $6. Isn't that the real apple to apple (or tomato to tomato) comparison; $9 to $6? I wonder what the typical NY cost for a slice is for the same pizza, cheese to cheese, or a topping per topping comparison.
Del Stanley in nyc my whole. Most slices of pizza around the city are around $2.50-$3.00 and that’s from authentic high quality pizza shops. Dollar pizza is usually something people grab after a bar or club. Dollar pizza is smaller than regular pizza and has a lot less cheese and sauce. Unless you’re really on a tight budget, get a couple real slices and a coke and call it a day.
Try Joe's for a $3 slice - worth the extra couple bucks and the line out the door. Stand outside in front of the fountain, fold that baby in half and enjoy like everyone else! Thin crust, tasty tomato sauce and just the right amount of cheese. But between the $1 and the $9 I would go for the classic New York slice every time. I do like browsing in Eatily though and getting a little snack as a treat. Go to Russ and Daughters which is a fantastic institution for a take-out bagel sandwich with lox. And split a Katz's smoked meat sandwich of course which is almost next door - not the cheapest sandwich, but huge, and delicious. The other classic budget NYC food besides a slice is Grey's Papaya for a hot dog and a papaya drink. Well, there are a billion places to try. Have fun.
This is what they should have compared the one dollar slice too yes!! I love joe’s! I was like “there is no way you can compare the types of pizza they got with the cheese nyc pizza. That would have been a better comparison.
I'm starting my day with watching this new vid of yours while sipping my coffee. LOL ONE dollar for a slice of pizza in NYC is practically freeeeee!!! When you said that $9 slice had no sauce, my heart sank lol. In answer to your survey I think I'd prefer the $1 slice because it's more of a traditional pizza...tomato sauce and cheese. Cheers! Happy adventuring, y'all!
When I was young I paid 25c for one slice of cheese pizza in NYC. You like what you grew up with. Plain cheese pizza is still my favorite to this day. And the less it costs the better I like it! Brings to mind the old (1937) Kinchley's Tavern in Ramsey, NJ. To my taste buds, as good as it gets! Last time there, 2007, was for our 50th HS Reunion. Several of us relived our youth there! GO, KINCHLEY'S!!!
My favourite is what I do at home: a frozen basic cheese an tomato pizza, to which I add a tin of mackerel mashed over, squirts of garlic puree, and a whole pile of baby spinach leaves on top and splatter them with sunflower oil so that they get soft and collapse. Sometimes I add some sliced tomato to get everything really juicy. Totally yummy. As to your question , I'd absolutely go with the basic pizza.
If you want to try great pizza go to almost anyplace in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights in ( southwest ) Brooklyn . I grew up on the pizza there and have very rarely been disappointed and the price is right. Plain slices either Sicilian ( square ) or Napolitano ( round ) are $2.- or $2.50 .
Pizza for breakfast and lunch. Been doing that since college just not as often these days. 1.00 pizza is just fine. My favorite place changes based on the consistency of the pizza shop.
I learned the root of Venice is from ancient language meaning passion. So that Wiener dog (from Vienna, aka Wien) really is all about desire and love, Venus. In England they take that root word as friend and in Germany wine. Think can't go wrong with beer and a dog. . .plus some dandelion root tea for the road ;) Wiener dog nice food sign for toasting a next good meal with gusto 🌹
One buck pizzas have saved me on many an occasion... you can get it in so many different neighborhoods, and so often they’re open at such random hours. $1 is the ultimate.
If your heading to JFK airport you need to stop by New Park Pizza in Howard Beach ! Check the Yelp reviews ! You could even take the air train from Howard beach to the airport !
The pizza at Eatly is to reflect what you would get in regions of Italy, not really NY. Rome also has a different pizza from Eatly also, thus the crust is thicker. The $1 slices are closer to traditional NYC pizza and that is part of their popularity being super thin, big slice and cheap. Not quite a good comparison as they are very different!
To more accurately compare, I feel you should be trying a slice of the same type of pizza. So...a slice of cheese and a slice of cheese against each other.
This tastes like it's right off the pig, *points at prosciutto* - yeah! after it's been salted and cured for a year and a half then thinly sliced... right off the pig! Haha, love you guys!
Eataly is an overpriced tourist trap. Everything there is at least twice the price of it being anywhere else and that pizza, though decent, is not even worth $5. Go to DiFara or L&B Spumoni Gardens (for a Sicilian) in Brooklyn if you want a high end, but delicious pizza. What you got isn't even a pizza. It's a focaccia sandwich.
Loved this video, but a little tip...you’re supposed to go to 3 places lol 😋 Worth It is my favorite show on YT, loved that you guys did a version of it. 😍
Judging by the other varieties on display at the market pizzeria, the second type of pizza that you guys tried is likely an NYC take on Roman pizza (ie. the kind of pizza that you'll find in Rome). It's definitely pizza, just from a different region of Italy than what most Americans are used to. - Perhaps a return to Italy for a food & travel adventure to try their various regional cuisines is in order? 🤔🙌🏽
You're comparing apples and oranges. NY pizza is thin crust, huge slices, spartan toppings. Crunchy and chewy. The other pizza you had is a Rome style take away pizza. It's ALL about the dough/crust. The toppings are typical of what you'd see in Rome. You can't really compare the 2 for price. It's like, did you enjoy the $3 Pabst Blue Ribbon or the $9 Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA?
Whenever we’re in New York, we always make the trek across the Brooklyn bridge to Grimaldi’s. I think you can get a whole pizza for not much more than $9. Super hot coal fired oven. No beer though 🙁
I would choose the $1 pizza, the more expensive one looked dry and was more like a bridge roll. For those of us who arent American please can you explain the tax, you mentioned the price of the food, is take away food also taxed ? Is it the same tax amount throughout America ?
I don't think Eataly's pizza could be consider NY pizza. It is actually an Italian chain of markets/restaurants, so it has nothing to do with NY style pizza. As far as I understand a NY style pizza is a unique type of pizza that has nothing to do with the Italian or the true Napoletan style pizza. But the video was still interesting as I love US vlogs. ;)
I would honestly probably have both. It would depend on what I'm doing. I wouldn't go out of the way for the $1 pizza, nor for the $9 pizza. But if those were options in my immediate vicinity, I would do one or the other depending on what I was looking for on that day. Also, Eatly is a GREAT place!
1$ pizza, is that i want to take. It's more because you get more pizza for the money. Great video guys, keep up the great work. Best regards The Danish Viking 🇩🇰
For me, when I want a slice...I want a traditional NY-style slice of pizza. So, I go with the "cheaper" options. One of our favorites is Claudio Pizzeria on 10th Ave & 43rd in Hell's Kitchen.
You come across those more expensive pizzas sometimes in Italy - it seems to be luck of draw/who's in the kitchen that night if you get these flat bread pizza things. They're damn good though - lighter and healthier. And not inherently more expensive. Still love a classic filthy pizza though, even if my heart doesn't.
I like the 1 dollar pizza more. The other is just a fancy sandwich but the first was close to the traditional . Marquerita is my favorite in a stone oven
Have seen all kind of pizzas, incl. the ones that I had in Rome but never have seen a pizza made like the second one. I think it is a “deconstructed”pizza maybe? Or some kinda fancy version of a pizza. I wish you compared it to a more classic pizza then that would be a totally different comparison. To be honest, I wouldn’t choose any of those but you are right - 1$ pizza was not a bad option if you are short of money. 👍
Guiciale is pig cheek “bacon”. You’ll find it in Amatriciana pastas and a true Carbonara as well. Fancy pizza was nice but I’d go for the $1 pie personally.
As a New Yorker, the item you purchased at Eataly is not New York pizza. Like someone said below, that is an open sandwich. BTW, I used to work in that building!
I would probably gravitate toward the pricey pizza, simply because it is more authentic, fresh, and has unique flavors. My penny pinching husband would go for the $1 slices, though :) My favorite pizza is from a local shop called Philly's!

Hahaha, True.
Exactly this! $1 pizza was pizza.
I totally agree
Yes, the other is more like fucaccia
I'd rather go for the one dollar with eight extra toppings...
Omg...when Allison took a bite of the super fancy prosciutto bacon, and proceeded to do the head-bob/shoulder roll...LOL😂 too cute!!!
Ok I’m a few years late on this one!! To give you a timeline I just watched your sprinter van trip to South Dakota (which I love) on Fourth of July 2021! Flight over from where? From somewhere closer to Italy? They have pizza in Italy too.
I'm in England, as far a I know there aren't any £1 pizza places here. New York is one city I've always wanted to visit, so trying the pizza would be a must (for me at least).
I was thinking that getting to Italy would be a lot cheaper, so you could get the good pizza there more cheaply than the cheap pizza in NYC.
That's a good point, I may add Italy to my "places to visit" list ;-)
Sure the second 'pizza' wasn't a focaccia?
Looked like focaccia.
It's focaccia, no doubt.
absolutely was a focaccia.
And the first one Margarita. Not cheese pizza.
Thanks for watching! The second pizza was made with pizza dough (the same as the others served there), but without sauce. So not Focaccia, but probably not pizza by some people's definition 👍

You guys are the best! -- My wife and I are doing an East Coast pizza tour for our 20th anniversary in the fall and this video is super helpful.
On no planet was the expensive pizza pizza. It was baked flat bread with ingredients placed on top. Would have loved to have seen you compare cheap cheese pizza to expensive cheese pizza without the extras. Fun video as always.

The second place is inspired by Pizzeria Bonci in Rome. It's a common pizza style called Pizza Al Taglio.
Omg guys I just want pizza right now! That is almost the only we ate in nyc last time. I will go for the $1 pizza everyday lol

jf76 Agreed!

Canned tomato taste, had it yesterday wasn’t the best , but I just got back from Italy.
I'm starting my day with watching this new vid of yours while sipping my coffee.

I love Eataly, if you go to the pasta restaurant, I highly recommend the quadrati ravioli with the pistachio-lemon sauce. Heavenly.
When I was young I paid 25c for one slice of cheese pizza in NYC. You like what you grew up with. Plain cheese pizza is still my favorite to this day. And the less it costs the better I like it! John's Pizza @ 260 W 44th St by Times Square. It is a converted old church. You won't regret it!
There are also so many amazing $1 slices, as well as $2 and $3 for slightly larger slices and better quality
You should stop in New Haven on your Greyhound tour if possible and try the pizza there, particularly on Wooster Street.
$1 pizza. Yes please! Pizza tour! Pizza tour!
That $9 slice was more like a focaccia than a pizza.
neither of those looked great. maybe something in the middle. sure nyc must have some proper wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, the best style of pizza imo.
My favourite is what I do at home: a frozen basic cheese an tomato pizza, to which I add a tin of mackerel mashed over, squirts of garlic puree, and a whole pile of baby spinach leaves on top and splatter them with sunflower oil so that they get soft and collapse. Super excited for a $1 pizza slice wow

The pizza I had in Italy looked exactly like that $1 pizza. The tons of toppings pizza was an "American thing!" we were told!!?
Pizza for breakfast and lunch. Been doing that since college just not as often these days. 1.00 pizza is just fine. My favorite place changes based on the consistency of the pizza shop.
I think I went to this Pizza Place in NYC when I was once in New York !!! Delicious Pizza Melted Cheese. That Pizza place is right near Downtown.
I learned the root of Venice is from ancient language meaning passion. So that Wiener dog (from Vienna, aka Wien) really is all about desire and love, Venus. Think can't go wrong with beer and a dog. . .plus some dandelion root tea for the road ;) Wiener dog nice food sign for toasting a next good meal with gusto 🌹
The $1 pizza just looks so much more delicious. I don't like most of the things on the
other one so it would be an easy choice for me
One buck pizzas have saved me on many an occasion... you can get it in so many different neighborhoods, and so often they’re open at such random hours. $1 is the ultimate.
Pizza for my family is a "grab and go" when I'm short on time. That being said, for me, it's a no brainer....$1 slice is nice!!
If your heading to JFK airport you need to stop by New Park Pizza in Howard Beach ! Check the Yelp reviews ! You could even take the air train from Howard beach to the airport !

I would definitely go for the $1.00 slice. I’m from New Jersey and we have Federici’s in Freehold, NJ. It’s so good and worth the trip
What you ate at the expensive place appears to be a variation on Roman-style pizza called pizza al taglio.
Guanciale is prepared from pork cheeks. The second one is more like a focaccia slice that you would get for half the price in Italy. Not really Pizza.
To more accurately compare, I feel you should be trying a slice of the same type of pizza. So...a slice of cheese and a slice of cheese against each other.
MsAutie I
This tastes like it's right off the pig, *points at prosciutto* - yeah! after it's been salted and cured for a year and a half then thinly sliced... right off the pig! Haha, love you guys!
Definitely the $1.00 pizza! But then again I'm from Chicago, and love Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza, which is not cheap! But it is soooo good!
if you already in New York , jump to Brooklyn you'll have Di Fara and maybe you'll be lucky in Lucali
Love the idea of a NYC pizza tour video 😍
Eataly is an overpriced tourist trap. Everything there is at least twice the price of it being anywhere else and that pizza, though decent, is not even worth $5. Go to DiFara or L&B Spumoni Gardens (for a Sicilian) in Brooklyn if you want a high end, but delicious pizza. What you got isn't even a pizza. It's a focaccia sandwich.
💯
Mario Batali tourist trap. I’m perplexed by the choice 🙅🏻
Joy Worldwide we chose it because it was the most expensive slice we could find. That was the point of the video 😸
DiFara best pizza in NY. Highly recommend.
A few recommendations: Juliana's and Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, Lombardi's and Capizzi in Midtown
Definitely I choose 1$ pizza, it’s looks yummmmy 🍕
Hot and cheesy perfect for cold weather and it’s reminds me of Joy pizza in Friends 😂🔥
As much as I love Italian meats, I still would have chose the $1. Love the idea of a pizza video!
1$ pizza is better because you can buy a lot and get full for a cheaper price..
No way..
Yes because that's the aim of course : Stuff yourself senseless with cheap stuff! Tasty and healthy food is soooo over-rated! ;-) NOT! (In my book ! )
Hi! Looks amazing. Assuming you're in Bklyn, but naming the borough would be cool. Have fun!
You guys must try Sal & Carmine's Pizza in Manhattan - absolutely delicious!
"I'd buy THAT for a dollah!"
Robocop ftw.
Whenever we’re in New York, we always make the trek across the Brooklyn bridge to Grimaldi’s. I think you can get a whole pizza for not much more than $9. Super hot coal fired oven. No beer though 🙁
It’s the $1 pizza every day, the $9 looks like an sandwich. 😀
i agree with what you said. depends on mood as all pizza is great but depends on mood and situation
I would choose the $1 pizza, the more expensive one looked dry and was more like a bridge roll. For those of us who arent American please can you explain the tax, you mentioned the price of the food, is take away food also taxed ? Is it the same tax amount throughout America ?
Same in uk..hot takeaway food pays VAT, cold doesn't
7-10% is typical but there are a couple of places-Oregon for instance-with no tax.
Waa Mwaa groceries in a market are taxed depending on the state. We pay taxes on groceries in Virginia.
You had two totally different pizzas. Why didn’t you get another piece of Margarita pizza so it would have been a better comparison?
mazzio's----try their supreme which comes in different sizes n their garlic cheese bread with your choice of sauces-----mine is marinara
Next time you’re in NYC, check out Paulie Gees in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Best pizza ever.
The New York way to eat it is fold the pizza guys! Love NY pizza. From an ex New Yorker.
I like sauce on the pizza ,the expensive one was a deli sandwich,$1 pizza for sure with the free toppings🇨🇦👍
Give me the $1 Pizza all day long! Love a good slice of NY pie
$1 pizza on a hot day with a real, icy coke. $9 in October with a microbrew. There is a time and a place for everything.
Has to be the $1 you just can't go wrong, with that and for the size of it as well
New Jersey pizza, especially south jersey pizza is the best!! In Seaside NJ there’s a place called Sawmill and it’s the biggest and best pizza!
But the video was still interesting as I love US vlogs. ;)
The classic pizza is what I crave but I do like some fancier pizza every blue moon.
In Romania, a slice of pizza îs $1. And is the best pizza sever. 🍕😍😍
Imagine if Casey naistat just rolled by in the background...the ultimate NY experience
Here in the UK we pronounce parmesan parmezan.
1$ pizza, is that i want to take. It's more because you get more pizza for the money. Great video guys, keep up the great work.
Best regards
The Danish Viking 🇩🇰
For me, when I want a slice...I want a traditional NY-style slice of pizza. So, I go with the "cheaper" options. One of our favorites is Claudio Pizzeria on 10th Ave & 43rd in Hell's Kitchen.
The $9 one looks healthier, the other one looks so oily. Depends on the mood of the day I can have both
If you cooked the other one the oil would come out of the cheese too...
Both pizzas look great! I'd probably go for the $1 unless I'm in the mood for something healthy. I'm a sucker for a bargain 😀
definitely try the NY $1 pizza. I’ll try the Italian style in Italy. 👍🏼😄
The BEST $1.00 pizza is Two Brothers!!!!!!
Lombardi’s on Spring. NYC has the best classic pizza. Your $9.99 “slice” was an open face sandwich.
Yeah. If you're a tourist who's looking do lose money and not get a real product, sure.
9 different slices of the $1 Pizza, it looked delicious
The $1 pizza's been my all time fav, no other way ...
New York is huge; what part of it were you filming?
The best pizza is in New Haven CT, called Pepe Apizza , the best in the world.. Its world famous …Always a in when ever you go..
not a big pizza fan. but first it has to be crunchy. when i order pizza delivery i put it in the oven or toaster oven till its super crunchy
Guiciale is pig cheek “bacon”. You’ll find it in Amatriciana pastas and a true Carbonara as well. Fancy pizza was nice but I’d go for the $1 pie personally.
DAMN GOOD DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's clear from the comments that pretty much everyone loves pizza!
Bali, Indonesia waiting for u guys
Great video in NYC, you guys! 😉👍
I wish they had $1 pizza places in LA. I miss NYC!
As a New Yorker, the item you purchased at Eataly is not New York pizza. Like someone said below, that is an open sandwich. BTW, I used to work in that building!
The important question: Which place has the ultimate Philly cheesesteak?
Spend two more dollars and they'll throw in a BMW for the day.
I would probably gravitate toward the pricey pizza, simply because it is more authentic, fresh, and has unique flavors. My penny pinching husband would go for the $1 slices, though :)
My favorite pizza is from a local shop called Philly's!
I think that i will go with the tricolore looks yummy ,the 1$ pizza its a bit on the thin side for me . 🍷 nice vid xx
1 dollar pizza for sure! 😊
Having looked at them both, In terms of value for money then definitely the $1 Pizza.
