I woke on Xmas day 1985 as an 11 year old to see one of these under the tree (painted a metallic golden brown). It looked amazing. My brother and I grabbed the controller and tried to drive it around only to quickly realise it had no battery installed. Hours later once our parents awoke, we learned it wasn’t really for us. It was instead the ultimate Homer gift my Dad had bought for himself. Suffice to say, the few times it went out, it would be damaged within minutes thanks to two things. 1. The rigid plastic construction. 2. My Dads insistence that the electric motor only had two states; on or off. Ahhh, memories. Good ones? Not really.
Hi Mike, I’m a fan of Marui especially Big Bear as I’ve restored a bunch on my channel along with other Marui cars. I’m also uploading the Marui Ninja in a few days stay notified. Samurai in the fall. Thanks again ✌️
The big bear was my second RC. My first was a Grasshopper. I raced the big bear in a "monster truck" class at my local indoor carpet track against Blackfoots, Lunchboxs, etc etc. I could always stomp them with a Trinity Monster Stock motor on the big bear. But man did it understeer on carpet. And the parts would break easily if you wrecked. Also the gears were known to strip with hot motors and batteries. My old friend Keith had the first big bear I ever saw and I just had to get one too. Magic times. I looked at my big bear as if it was made of solid gold. No idea where it went. Might have traded it in at Southside Hobby for my next race car....an RC10 original for racing 2WD stock carpet. I always ran Trinity power, Sanyo 7.2V battery, Leisure 105 charger, Airtronics two-stick radio (later a Kyosho Pulsar) and Novak speed controllers. Good Times...the best of times.
Am I the only one that thought something broke on the front wheel when the video slowed down the first time on that jump? lol Such a sweet looking R/C man!
Luke’s Vintage Rc Car Restoration Haha, I see that! I cringed when I saw that, I thought “oh no, it broke!” But when it kept driving fine afterward I figured it just flexed like crazy, haha. Beautiful truck, man!
I really can't believe that I found this channel. One of my favorite trucks back in the 80s, thank you so much for doing these videos. You have awesome trucks and cars and buggies it's all good 💪🏻🔥😎🔥💪🏻
I wish we could convince Jason Ruona for Jconcepts to release tires for the Big Bear. They could also make wheel conversions for the tires to fit Tamiya ORV and CW-01 cars to increase the selling market for them, like JG did in the 1980s. If this would happen we would start seeing the prices of Big Bears come back down.
My first r/c in 1985, kept blowing the rear diff. Went through three of believe before it became a shelf queen. Still feel the excitement of opening the box and putting it together though.
@@LukesVintageRC I am looking for a king Blackfoot would you happen to have one of those that you would like to sell I am doing this from my phone I do not do Internet or any of that I am a 53 years old and I do not know how to use computers they did not have I'm in school when I was in school
love it man, much better :) btw. 30 years ago i put a fast motor in mine, man this thing was a rocket and it was still stable to drive.... gotta get one now, ***** you! (in the nicest way possible) hahaha :) keep it on. subbed!

Marc Ford hello sir I did my rusty farm bear has the diff. Used in the snow video I did a video awhile back Tamiya Black foot, Marui big bear, Kyosho big brute Mip Thorp diff upgrades. It’s way better and better traction you have to mod the axles carefully. My farm bear is a beast with it 👍
Hi there. As a fellow Big Bear enthusiast, I was curious if you still had directions for the mip diff. I picked up a diff on eBay but it has no directions and noted you saying the axles need modified. Any help is greatly appreciated.
So you’d think the tires would be heavy but there light and that kinda helps. It’s the shell once all painted with all parts that’s heavy. Body mounts very weak. Fairly reliable truck for being as old and that’s why you see these around fairly intact. My favorite hence why there’s so many I’ve restored on here. Beyond fun trucks. Thanks for watching be sure to check out my other rc car videos and many to come. Thanks 😊
Frank Spitzer well out of respect to my friend who’s a subscriber I can’t say. I will say it wasn’t cheap. I love everything I build and he knows I put many hrs in restos. If your gonna buy one or sell the average cost of them 100-300 nowadays off eBay and mint in box 800-1200.

Great fun for sure.thanks

Looking forward to more videos.
Love the tires in perfect alignment for the video

Am I the only one that thought something broke on the front wheel when the video slowed down the first time on that jump? lol Such a sweet looking R/C man!
hey mrj -these are pretty tough trucks actually, only real issues is gears in transmission can get worn out quickly with the back and forth throttle.
