I've never heard Dabella, and I'm sure he did suck with Gilbert, but it's not like Howard was loyal to Gilbert for life. He cast him aside very easily when the show reformatted after Artie left. Gilbert was right to not grovel. He knew they weren't real life best buds.

Howard was notorious for having this stupid "loyalty" mindset with his guests, I've heard so many different people talk about it over the years. I don't get how he can call Gilbert his friend and then try to undermine his career by controlling where he's allowed to promote his shows, he just sounds insecure and self-centered by doing that. Also the callers in this are very cringe.

I like that everyone is comparing Howard (radio host) and Gilbert (comedian) like they don’t have completely different jobs… saying Gilbert is more funny etc. HE SHOHLD BE he’s a comedian LOL such silly logic.
Their chemistry together is what makes their segments great. It’s a constant battle of Howard trying to get Gilbert to break character… and Gilbert never breaking character. They’re hilarious together. Although Howard is being a bit obnoxious in this one.

I can't get over how Howard always talked about how Gilbert was a special friend of the show that had the privilege to just walk in (because Howard rightfully recognized Gilbert's talent!) and then all of a sudden in 2012 that all ends and Howard never speaks about Gilbert again until he died. Howard wanted his guests to show him a loyalty that he only reciprocated on a conditional basis. I admire Gilbert so much in this clip for not giving in to Howard. Despite his self-deprecating persona, Gilbert knew his worth! I'll always love Gilbert. Howard just looks worse and worse every year.
