    Thank you so so much for posting this video! I had no idea about ceiling fan receivers and I went through all the troubleshooting suggested in the various posts here and have determined that it is the receiver that needs to be replaced. I called Home Depot and explained the situation and they connected me to the manufacturer. Since I am out of the two-year warranty I did have to pay for the new receiver which is $32 plus $15 shipping. Should be sent out next week so keeping my fingers crossed this will work. Thank you again very much for posting this video!

    Awesome. Just called and they are sending out a receiver. The first representative was going to charge me $55. I asked about getting free shipping and he said hold on and I was transfered to another rep. Had to start over but he is sending it to me fir free. Thanks.

    Hampton Bay needs a big fat class action legal suite to make them pay for selling these defective junk fans with defective parts!!!

    Great video. Couldn't get the part for free from Home Depot (maybe because my fan is about 8 years old) but for ~ $50 got the replacement receiver, installed it, and it's working fine! Thanks for producing this video.

    Thank you so much. My 6-year old Altura fan suddenly stopped altogether this week, although it has had intermittent remote issues (like starting on its own in the middle of the night) since it was installed. I ordered the updated receiver and remote from Amazon and installed it without issue and all is now working great. Thanks so much for your video and instructions!

    Same issue with mine. No way I would have that receipt anymore. I opened up the circuit board on the failed unit and found the 220uf 25v cap that had swollen and failed. Desoldered it and replaced it with one I had laying around from an old Arduino project and Voila! Worked like a champ. Figure I will be buying the replacement unit soon, but this bought me some time. If I didn’t love the fan, I would just replace it, but aside from this issue, these models are awesome! So quiet and put out a lot of air volume. Thanks for the video and the specifics for the part numbers.

    Ok. Turn wall switch on and listen for click on receiver in bottom of fan, if it clicks then use remote aimed at fan. Hold power button for 10 seconds and then push any fan speed button on remote.
    This should get your fan turning.
    No click sound, replace receiver.

    I HOOKED UP A NEW RECEIVER AND IT WORKED FOR 30 MINUTES, TURNED OFF FAN AND THEN CAME BACK AND FAN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. WHAT COULD IT BE?

    Thank you for sharing this video. I have the exact same problem and same model. My fan certainly dies after couple of years. I will call up HomeDepot like you recommended, and hopefully they will honor the replacement.

    Thank you for the video! This is a life saver! I'm a renter and trying to get something fixed/done is impossible so since we're pretty handy (I work for HD) I'll just order the part and replace it myself.

    I had a 68" fan purchase about 4 years ago model 26668 and the mounting bolts broke and the fan fell about 15' Did this ever happen before?? Never had a problem before, the fan ran perfect.

      Always use the new screws with a fan replacement, the old screws could have suffered meatal fatigue, or the box screw holes threads could have been stripped, over-torqued and compromised; also a unbalanced fan can weaken the fasteners to failure.

    Hi, Thanks for great video. My Alutra has been doing the random turning on for awhile. Thought it was maybe a neighbor had same fan. But today fan not working at all. Called Home Depot, they wanted to give me a $50 gift card. I said replacement part from Amazon is $85 (with shipping). She is going to contact company about getting me replacement parts...we'll see.

      @@Meekerextreme Ok, Altura contacted me. Replacement receiver $50 plus shipping about $60. Just receiver not remote. Didn't know if if was "newer" replacement part. Took the $50 gift card to HomeDepot and used your links and got a new receiver and remote via Amazon. Took 5 minutes to replace...Boom! Just like new. Thanks.

    They also seem to have capacitor failing issues. I've seen 3 in pizza place and all three have bad capacitor, and yes they are on on/off switch so no dimmers.

    I would like to add to this video. As pointed out in the instructable link left in the description, DO NOT assume you need a new reciever. Try to reset your remote first. You are not guaranteed to get a free one so you end up paying. Also, most videos tell you to "cut the power" to the fan.. If your fan only runs of a remote, one might assume that means to cut the breaker...which is a pain considering you are supposed to hold the power button down within 20 secs of powering back on. So unless you have a helping hand, or are close enough to the fan, it is difficult to coordinate all that. What I found worked for both of my fans, was to only disconnect the power connection plug that runs from the fan to the reciever. Leave it unplugged for 30 secs, plug it back together and than hold power button down within the next 20 seconds. Just what worked for me. **First be sure to use a tester to make sure you have power supplying reciever**..

      You're a genius. I can't believe that worked. I've been going years without using it bc I thought it was the motor. May still be, I know nothing ab this stuff. I feel it's not moving as fast as it should be, but she's moving!!! Thank you, so so much!! 😊

    My altura has a hampton bay remote. i am assuming previous owner replaced it. Mine is too slow at fast speed...would this be a capacitor issue?

      It's normal for Altura to spin about 60-70 RPM on high. And older Altura are actually Hampton Bay.

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  5 лет назад +1

      From the feedback it sounds hit and miss whether they hook you up or not. It's obviously a known issue. I think one just has to be nice and if you do get someone not helpful hang up and call back that is what I do in life when I call companies.

  • @RealLifefunny81

    This fan only carries a 2 year warranty. Be sure to keep a copy of the sales receipt. If you lose the physical Copy Home Depot can go back 2 years and locate a your receipt. Only use the remote control to power on the fan. Using the light switch will cause premature failure of the receiver...

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  5 лет назад

      We had no issues not having a receipt...maybe just lucky in who we got. Most people don't keep receipts for stuff like fans.

    Now you call the number and they just hang up... must be getting lots of calls. I have four of these fans and every one of them has the same problem, only works in slow speed and nothing else.
    Update... called Hampton Bay customer service and they will send out three receivers, but of course you have to pay for them.. 28.00 a piece and 12.00 shipping.

    • @Meekerextreme

      That sucks, I guess a lot of people are calling them up now. I'd mention the video I did to them. This is obviously a known issue.

    I had two Altura fans running off one remote. One stopped working. I figured I would have to call an electrician. This weekend I installed another fan in the house and voila! the old fan sprung to life. So now I had to change the frequency of the new fan to stop it operating the new fan. Are you still with me? So this having been done the old fan stopped working. This video told me there were no dip switches on the receiver so the only thing left to try was the dip switches on the old remote. After 4 tries out of the 16 possibilities the old fan worked. I have no idea why the frequency on the old fan changed but it did. So before you go to the expense of buying a new remote or receiver, you might want to try changing the frequency on on the remote. Thanks for saving me time looking for the dip switches :)

    I have the same problem with the silver fan. Took it to a repairman and they said it's the receiver. I've had this fan for a few years. How long did you have yours? The altuea models have a lot of problems. I have two and both had problems.

      If I had to guess 4 years now! A few years after having it replacing the receiver they covered it for FREE and it was easy. Just annoying.

    Hi and Thank you for your info and video. I have the Altura 68 inch fan that is 10 yrs old and it too stopped turning on/off by the remote, which is the only way to operate it. I called the Hampton Bay number you provided and had to provide the UPC # on the top of the motor housing. Unfortunately, mine was not warrantied still (they are warranted for 2 yrs) and I ordered the reciever part which is 46 dollars. I should recieve it in 7 to 10 days.

      My wife didn't need to give any number and we were way past the warranty I believe. At least they sold it to you for a fair price vs what they can go for on Amazon.
