  • Welcome back! Thank you for joining me on my kindergarten journey! It's taking a lot of extra effort to make RUclips videos on top of teaching and raising four littles, but I'm working on it. There are huge gaps of time between each video now due to time.
I love that I tell you "this is a mess and shouldn't be here" only to move it to the next mess pile 😂 one day it'll get clean but that day wasn't it. Can you relate? Or does a mess give you anxiety?? After awhile, the mess gets to me and it feels overwhelming

Can I ask do you do guided reading? If you do , what do you use for students that may be more on a pre A level ? Just curious … I am struggling this year

Hi! I do have guided reading! I have four groups of guided reading: I see 2 groups in the morning and then 2 groups in the afternoon. The majority of my classroom is a Pre A level except for maybe 5 that are a 1. I do have a split between those Pre A groups where the majority are considered "on grade level" with the letters and then about 4 students that are still really low on letters. Name writing and recognizing letters in their name is where they start first! Don't go into any other letter activities until they know the letters in their name. Practice in your small group going over letters that you've already introduced so that they are continuing to be practiced and will become familiar with the more times they see it. Create a bag with foam letters or magnetic letters (any letters that you have that can easily fit into a sandwich bag) for them to practice. Only put the letters they know and the letters that are in their name into the bags. After name writing, move onto the next task of having them build their name with the letters. Continue to have them say each letter as they point to it. Then have them match the letters to an Alphabet chart. You can also a name puzzle for them (write their name on sentence strip paper) and make only 1 cut in their name puzzle. If they can match the piece in the correct order without a model of their name, make another cut on their name puzzle separating another letter. Continue until all letters are cut apart and they can building their name in the correct order. Start there! I'll try to make a video for you this week before we head to Christmas break next Thursday. ❤️ hope this is helpful! You've got this!

@@primarilyoptimistic9139 does your school require you to send home reading bags ? I just struggle sending books home with them when they struggle so bad and no one is reading with them at home . Thank you so much ! It was very helpful and thank you for the future video !

@@primaryinthesouth8743 they do not require us to send home reading bags. I send home books with them each week but they are books we've already practiced in class. They are the predictable readers where the phrase is the same except for the last word where they can use the simple picture to help determine the unknown word. We've talked a lot about where to start when reading, pointing to each word, and checking the beginning sound of that last word to see if it matches the word we believe it to be. I had a book that said "I see the rabbit". All of the students wanted to say "I see the bunny". I reinforced that although we do sometimes call a rabbit a bunny, and it could make sense in this sentence, the letter r is here in our first word and not /b/ for bunny. I also didn't send home books right away. Not until they learned several red words or sight words that they'd be seeing in those predictable readers.

Hi there! 👋🏼 Can you tell me where you got the small book holder that holds the books that don’t fit on top of the shelf? 💛

It's a past target dollar spot shelf that I've seen many get from there. I don't know how long ago it was there but I loved the shelf so I went searching online and found a brand new one on mercari and purchased it over the summer.
