Thank you for taking the time to have this very honest conversation of the down side/potential reasons for implant failure. As a patient it helps ease not only dental fears but most importantly, IMO a dentist who is brutally honest and takes time to fully inform a patient tells me they're primary concern & care is for the patient not solely their bottom line!
thanks for the comment. i honestly try to set expectations of what can go wrong. everybody knows the upsides of dental implants and how life changing they are. we just want people to be prepared for any potential things that can go wrong
Obviously the role of gauging bone density doesn't fall upon the patient. Therefore, if a doctor decides to place implants in bone that doesn't meet the acceptible density requirements for a successful outcome, is this considered malpractice?
I would think that since all of the possible ways an implant could fail (including bone density) are discussed pre-surgery and agreed to in writing by your signature / initials, that you have agreed to share in that risk and possibility of failure with your full understanding of said risk.@@ErwinEnriquez
From moral standpoint yes legally probably not. I signed consent form yesterday to have my teeth pulled. The risk of nerve damage and possible bone damage. I already knew and had the teeth pulled. For someone like me with active infection that spread to the bone in my jaw. It would put at high risk of infection and implant failure. If you are concerned about the risk. I wouldn’t do this.
Better not happen in Nevada! I just found out our state laws favor any and every dentist instead of the consumer. Our laws here are so scary that no attorney wants to even think about suing any dentist here! As a dental patient, you are on your own here.
I’ve spent around 45k on my teeth the last 10 years. I’m ready to be done. Getting all on fours on my bottom teeth once I’m able to save a bit. Sick of the pain and constant trips to the dentist.
I'm the same, had crowns all my life had nothing but problems with them, I have 4 upper missing front teeth, dentist wants to do veneers and crowns but I know it will just lead to problems down the line, all on 4 or 6 seems like a final solution.
@@leeperkes9437the more i learn about implants and bone concerns the more i feel its best to keep save your natural teeth as long as possible. As soon as you remove natural teeth bone loss starts and gums tissue goes with it. Especially problematic with front teeth where the bone is thin and easily recedes.
I’d love for you to walk through more examples of specific cases and how any of the reasons for failure were related-similar to showing the difficult extraction case and how important atraumatic extraction is. I love your info. Thank you!

Bone Density - Your telling everyone that you can't really tell if a patient has sufficient implant bone density until you start using your little ratchet AFTER you've already drilled a hole into the patient's jaw? Why would anyone go through a procedure of having all teeth removed and drilling implant holes into the jaw if there is bone density uncertainty that could make the procedure a failure if the ratchet numbers aren't good enough?

Or implants like you and my younger brother. We all just want to be able to smile and eat. Without being embarrassed I think that is very reasonable request.
In December, on a Tuesday, I had my teeth extracted (i had active infection, but took antibiotics for the week prior to surgery) and implants put in at the time of extraction. The next day, Wednesday, I left with my final teeth.. It is now mid May and I've had no issues with my implants. I had xrays and scans done this last week and all is great... but i went to Golpa G4 in Dallas (saw Dr Kelsey, he's awesome). The way Golpa does the implants at an angle, makes all the difference.. it makes more sense to place implants during extraction, no need to traumatize your gums and bone twice, the hole is already open. Let it heal one, vs, letting it heal from extractions then making a new wound later to insert implants... all in one day worked for me, and no more infections, woo hoo
Every place I have talked to does extractions and implants same day! That’s how you leave with temporary teeth u don’t remove. I’ve also heard most talk about putting implants at an angle. I am surprised tho that u had your final teeth in a day!! Haven’t seen that anywhere! I think there’s a video on this channel on why that isn’t a good thing tho. Glad u are doing well!!!

My question is.. what the hell do you do if you strip a titanium screw in someones jaw. I feel like the stakes are a little bit higher.. Do you just redrill the hole slightly bigger and go up a size? or do you have to give them a bone graft and revisit the issue in 6 months.
If a patient has an ongoing root canal infection in multiple areas, would you then suggest they take antibiotics for some time prior to the surgery? Thanks!
