- Hey guys, I decided to finally make the big jump and relax my hair for the first time after being natural for over 4 years! It's been quite a natural hair journey but I decided to perm my 4c natural hair. It was a rollercoaster of emotions but I made it happen

I relaxed mine three weeks ago after 10 years natural. Life's been hard lately and I just needed one thing that was left difficult.
How’s it going now.
It looks really good. ❤
I went from natural to relaxed hair, turn relaxed hair into dreads, loose out dreads and back to relax and now I am natural again. It is hard work cause I am in pain on a daily basis but loving my natural hair. You have to do what is easy for you.
This video spoke to me on a deep deep level I love my natural hair but I can't anymore relaxing it soon
People, do whatever you want with your hair; it's yours. However, I hate that we constantly give the impression that natural hair is "difficult". It's difficult when you don't take the time to learn how to care for or style it. The things that you will have to do to keep your relaxed hair healthy are not radically different from what you have to do to keep natural hair in the same condition.
You must have a lot of time in your hands
@@yourbackup_b I don't. I have simply taken the time to learn how to take care of my hair and get it to look the way I like.
It's difficult and time consuming. I wish people would stop trying to tell others how to feel.
@@tias.6675 Thanks for coming.
I have been natural my whole life, I have mastered what to do with it… I personally find it time consuming. I relaxed my hair last month, I wash and deep condition it every week, and that’s it. I literally get out of the shower and go! I could never do this with my unrelaxed hair. I always had to do a wash the day before so that I can have time to change the style if it doesn’t go well. So, personally I found mine time consuming.
I'll be relaxing and coloring mine soon. I've been natural since 2013-2014. So about 9-10 years but I want something new and want to wear my natural hair without it reverting so quickly. I can't wait! I understand how hard it was for you,but I enjoyed watching. You looked amazing ❤
I love how the stylist says, “Your hair has to fit your lifestyle” So true.
I’d say it’s more texturized. That’s where the relaxer loosens the natural curls but doesn’t completely straighten it.
And it looks sooo good!! 😍
Wow your hair looks beautiful i love it blessings
Avri your hair looks absolutely beautiful!!! it's healthy and it matches your beautiful face and personality!❤
Whatever works for you Avri. I relax my hair myself, I color, treat and trim my hair myself. Had to learn all these things as it was more economical for me as at the time I had 2 boys who are a year and a half apart and could not bè visiting the hair dresser often. The boys are all grown and I still do my hair myself 👍🙏♥️🇯🇲
Hey guys I love how Armas supported his baby with concern Care and respect.big up simas your expressions are timeless you are so into her and her you love your chemistry guys
I got my 4c hair relaxed back in December. I was going back and forth in my head for a month to decide wether I wanted to do it or not.
I wish I had got my hair relaxed sooner. The only downside is that my hair is really really thin it always has been so that’s rather frustrating. I did buy some clip in extensions yesterday so it’s nice to have that option to thicken / lengthen my hair when I want.
I can now wash & dry my hair without it taking hours it’s amazing! I brought the Dyson Airwrap & straightener and it’s deffo improved my wash day routine.
Awwww. I'm crying, Avri. I'm so sorry you had to go back there. I know how this battle goes. I hate twists etc in my own hair as well unless I have braids in. And I HATE sitting to get braids done. I'm going to message you on Instagram about an option that isn't so drastic but helps you with management and let's you wear your hair out and straight without completely destroying your bonds. You are beautiful no matter what and your straighter hair looks good too. Love you same way. ❤
What other ways besides a keratin treatment or hair botox could do that? My hair does not like relaxers.
Coodos👏👏👍👍 to you!!
I went back to the relaxer yesterday. For 9 years, I was natural. Im a fitness instructor and like to wear my hair in different styles. Being natural is not easy to maintain. I sweat profusely when I workout and my hair will b so hard to comb and manage. Even after I wash and condition. My gf told me dont do it cause of the"cancer scare". I went out on faith and put the relaxer in. O well. It looks and feels good. Thats all that matters!! And I hope the same 4 u💯
Your hair is beautiful relaxed and less time consuming because of how busy you are.
Your hair looks great. I am glad you only texturized it to make it more manageable. I use to do this to my daughters’ hair when they were younger. If you treat and maintain the same way you did your virgin hair you shouldn’t have any damage.
Avri! Your new hair style look lovely. I hope your hair journeys from now on are super easy and a delight!
First! And more power to you. You look beautiful either way🙌🏾
I've been thinking about doing the same thing. But I'm leaning more towards a texturizer rather than a relaxer. I've struggled with my natural hair journey. The daily struggle to get it together before work 😮💨. Far too time consuming. And I'm with you on twist outs and braid outs. They're just not for me. Plus they don't last long. The creamy crack is calling me baaaaaack😩. You got this.
Blessings Queen
I totally understand you sis! It's been a few months now and I have no regrets so far.
The creamy crack 😂
I finally did it after contemplating for almost a year. Best decision ever. I have to go in and do a corrective relaxer in June but I’m still happy overall. Less time consuming & I can wear my hair styled longer. Loved my natural hair but Relaxed hair is perfect for me at this time. Your hair turned out great. Do what work for you 🥰🥰
natural hair actually makes hair styles last longer, what are you talking about? you should just say you want straight hair and be over with it because it takes less than half an hour to wash natural hair.
@@jamaicanprincess4124 A lot of people maintain natural hair by wearing wigs. You never see their hair in the natural state. It’s as if they are ashamed of wearing natural styles. Either way, to each his own…
@@stephaniea4877 I have no problem with people wearing wigs, just make sure you are not damaging your edges with glue. it's actually healthier than putting relaxers in your hair. I am against black women chemically burning their hair possibly causing fibroids and cancer.
@@jamaicanprincess4124 We are also getting cancer from the foods we consume, cosmetics products and medicines but that’s a different story for another day.
@@stephaniea4877 Yes bw are and we shouldn't be adding something else to the list.
I have been thinking about relaxing mine again after five years but I have not found the courage to as yet hopefully I'll fine the courage to do it this year. Your hair looks amazing 😊❤️
Hi Avri, Your fresh perm looks Fabulous along with the hair trim! Just want you to be mindful of swimming in chlorinated pools…Always rinse your hair afterwards. Another tip is to be careful in the hot sun after a fresh perm. Wear a sun hat or carry an umbrella for protection. Go, girl!
$65 … that’s why people avoid hairstylists… overcharging. Looks good.
This is the best at home relaxer I have ever seen on RUclips. Well done 🎉❤
You are not scared but rather nervous 😂😂😂😂😂l love the result and welcome to the relaxed hair journey 😊
OMG! She looks beautiful and if people don't want the opinions of others turn the comments off don't post. It is challenging she's right ❤
I started taking out my braids, combing out the hair, and then adding color at around 10 am one day, and at 5 or 6pm is when I finished after taking a break for lunch. Natural hair that is tightly coil is anything but low maintenance, which is why mine is mostly braided under a wig. I understand your struggle.
When he said “ of course you’ll never get rid of that “ this man knows exactly what he is talking about! Lol almost nothing is a match for our hair textures i literally texturized my hair with a regular relaxer I would have to leave it on for a long time to fully straighten it I did a actual texturizer prior to that and couldn’t even tell my hair looked the same
My worry is managing new growth along with texturised road. Looks great. Good luck!
I’m in the same boat Avri. I wash it yesterday and have two big plaits right now. It’s stressing. I have been natural forever!!Here in the US it’s so expensive to braid.🇯🇲🇯🇲
It looks great! I'm of the opinion that everyone should do whatever they want with their hair.
Its funny how we sometimes like to call each other out for relaxing our hair but no one says anything to people who beach their hair to be blonde
Not trying to be rude but what does being blonde have to do with anything? Blonde is a genetic color anyone can have.
@@malaysiagloria Because the main thing people are criticizing is that relaxers are damaging/toxic but no one says anything to girls with blonde afros
Wow! ❤ Looks fab. Almost tempting me to "texturise" my hair. Been natural for over 11 years.
It looks so freaking good , I’m so tempted lol
The hair stylist did a great job
It looks good, and it fits you. Our natural hair is definitely hard to manage day to day. I had a mini-revolt as a teenager and kept my hair natural for two years. Those two years were the most challenging hair years of my life. Salon services are expensive, but they usually ensure your hair is done well. Even the relaxing should be done in a salon. The chemical can damage your scalp. Blessings!🙏
y'all need to stop with the exaggeration. natural hair being hard to manage is all in your head. I wash my hair in less than half an hour.
@@jamaicanprincess4124 Washing it was easy! Do you prepare your hair for sleep at night? I have TIGHTLY curled hair and kept it natural during the afro days. Not the days when you could go out on the road looking any-ole-how. I had to plait my hair EVERY night, so I could comb it into a smooth round afro in the morning. After two years, no shame, I gave up!
I'm loving ur new look. The hair looks good.Big ups to u and Simas
I say do whatever works for you. I, too, have been antagonizing about going back to relaxed hair. I have been natural since Covid. My hair keeps breaking, I think, due to the number of silk presses I have done. The struggle is real. It’s just hair and yours look beautiful 😍
Whichever you choose you're still beautiful do whatever makes you happy
Your hair looks good. Natural hair is very hard to maintain, until you find what works for you. Relaxed hair is easier, of course, but, again, it has to be your choice, your decision. I am on my natural journey, mastered the art of a silk press and basically do whatever I want, when I want. ❤❤❤❤❤.
Your new hair looks beautiful and healthy Avri
Unpopular opinion: Black women are more than their hair
I feel like because we are trying to hold onto our “blackness” we are using our hair, but this hair is temporal, you could lose it, you could change it etc, I think hair should just be a way to express who we really are, if you are an adventurous person you automatically do different kinds of things, if you are laid back you will do things that would make it easier, instead of learning about hair, know yourself, do you genuinely want to be natural or you are being pressured etc
“Yu waa me neck back bun up” 😂😂😂
I myself didn’t want you to relax it but I understand the stress to comb it daily
Good luck to you love definitely a hard decision for us 4c girls! I believe you’ll have a prosperous relaxed hair journey ❤
love your hair, keep it this way and please do eyebrows, threading, black eyeliner top lid only and colour rose/red lip-gloss plus earrings always, silver hooped hypo is fine. This is easy way to do make-up, what I do myself takes 2mins, please try it. luv you and Simas. You representing girl.
I like your hair it’s giving enjoy till you natural again but it’s many ways to change our hairstyle. Nuff ppl there hair can’t do many things like our hair. I like when your sis used to do your hair
I do my hair also caan find a good hair dresser where I’m located. Hey hair dresser overprice here in Ja to get your hair done it’s cheaper
I am where you were and I still dont want to relax my hair.😔 I had locs for about 2/3years couldnt afford to maintain it. I put braid in but as I am getting older those feel heavy on my head. So having them periodical professionally twisted or silk pressed is being considered.
It was a very hard decision to make 😪. Good luck
@@AvriSimas Thanks
You guys are too cute. I love his reactions
I relax my hair every 6 months and oil it with olive oil, your hair is nice and healthy
Man !! Watching this as am in my restroom with the relaxer, and questioning if am about to regret it lool.
Did you do it? Lol I want to be natural again lol. My hair didn't fall out or anything but I hate having 2 textures. Especially since I only relax it every 6 months.
I am conflicted about relaxing my hair again or not too Avri. I don't like protective styles much.
I just relaxed after 6 years and I’m glad I relaxed. Menopause was whipping me.
Lovely...you have a lot of hair looks real healthy Av.❤
Avri - i think you should have pressed your hair, it would have been easier to wash it out when you are ready to change it. When you perm it, that takes longer to come out and it damages the hair. the last decision is always yours. Good luck!! Blessings and love
I'm glad I didn't do a silk press because I wanted a "permanent" solution. I didn't want it to revert back after I washed it so I'm happy with the end result. 😁
You texlaxed your hair . I am the same and my hair is now long , thick and healthy. I do my hair myself and I use relaxer only three times for the year
Your hair looks great. You did a really good job texturizing it.👍🏼👍🏼 I'm at the point in my natural journey where I'm considering doing the same🤔
Aww he's so sweet
Hello Simas and Avri!! I love your new hair style girl, it suits you ☺ I am sure that it will be more. manageable now. Lots of love to you both. ❤❤
Your hair looks nice and healthy. Love it.
you are fearfully and wonderfully made, being black is great it should not be a problem. Although I understand what you are saying. Looks good both ways to me.
I work in Edgewater! Anyway, when he said it's giving! I fell out! 😂 love it! Your hair looks great queen👏🏽
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he's a mess
You go girl loving this look as well good job
Even though you relaxed your hair it still healthy and at its natural state and that is what matters. But authentic natural texture is the best for me❤
I honestly think If you just avoid your scalp you shouldn’t have to worry about it seeping into your pores which would be the only way for it to cause anything internally I literally just relaxed my hair and completely avoided my scalp it can be done I know I did a good job at avoiding my scalp because I had absolutely no burning and I know it would’ve been burning bad had I not avoided it because my scalp was very irritated the day I did the relaxer. A little bit might get on your scalp as you go along but it doesn’t compare to actually putting it on your scalp at all
There are hair straightening brushes that you can use, and it straightens your hair without perming it. I have been using this method so I can chose to wear it natural or straight
Sounds nice till you get out and it’s humid
Oh! I did love your natural hair
‘What am I 40?’ Gosh, that’s ancient!
That part was rude lol but I absolutely get what she meant. Not everyone feels cute walking around with twists. I certainly don’t. And if you gave fine strands it looks scalpy
I Love it. Great decision as you guys are getting ready to travel
I love your hair Avri...
Thank you 😁
Hi guys Avri your hair looks great nice change ❤
I did it and after 9 months it started to break and fall off despite treatments etc
I like it infact you’ve just inspired me to just relax cause my goodness our 4c hair can be so difficult to manage !!!! It’s beautiful . I’m all in
Avri your hair looks good
Btw...your hair looks nice girl!
You should bring the same relaxer with you on your trips so you can touch it up that when you can get some breakage when you wait too long to touch up the roots, looking good
Looking good Avri 💃Just a bit of advice, don't use a lot of heat on it, once or twice a week is sufficient and when you relax again, only relax the regrowth.
Your hair looks amazing!
The hair style makes you look much younger too❤
Your hair looks really really good. I am a fan of you guys. Always watch you. Miss you when you are not around. Take care now and be good. Blessings Carole from Virginia Beach 🏝️
Beautiful keep it up with her and make her keep doing it listen treat yourself
You look amazing as always 💕
Hey Avri...did you look at the option to do texture release...please let me know if you did and why didn't you choose this option. Thank you
It looks amazing im also really considering relaxing my 4 year natural hair, im over it 😅 ,
Look into keratin treatment first. Or a Japanese hair relaxer. They are less harsh on the hair and less toxic. I wish someone told me 😘
Your relax hair looks real nice.
Ps. I wash my hair every 2 weeks. Washing your hair too often weakens the hair.
I love it !! It looks good on you dint get me wrong you beautiful so you can go natural and straight ❤❤❤❤😊
Really nice and healthy, great job. Love it.
Love your hair. Looks very healthy. Good job ❤❤
Your hair looks awesome Avri 👍👍 you did a great job keeping your natural hair healthy and great job not over relaxing it. The haircut is super nice. 👍👍
What was your hair before 4 years ago? Was it tex-laxed or curly permed? I’m unsure as I don’t recall you saying
It was fully relaxed
Your hair is definitely healthy
Avri i love your hair it looks absolutely beautiful
Love your hair!!
Love love it good job 🙏🏾❤️🇯🇲
My girl! You didn't comb the perm through and you didn't leave the perm on the front of your hair for long enough.
You are brave.
Yes you will have to clip the ends!
Make sure you put the products on your hair to keep your hair moist and in good condition.
It will take time for your hair to settle into the perm.
I’ve been natural since 2020 when I finally got out high school I cut majority of my hair off because it never grew it’ll look crazy majority of the time because how short it became I couldn’t put it in the styles I wanted it to because I had flyaways so it took some years to take out the perm and get out of the transition phase but I’m over a year my grew back to where I can freely fit my hair into a ponytail or braids without having to deal with flyaways or hair that’s uneven but it’s been a struggle because I’m still trying to maximize the growth of my hair but I’m stuck at keeping the growth going so I’ve thought about getting sisterlocks which is pricey but at this point I feel like that’ll be the best option for me because I fix my hair everyday and sometimes I just don’t like the way it looks and I redo the same style I’m trying to achieve like 5 times until either I give up or I just leave the way it is and deal with it later that’s my current situation now
Looks great, eat lots of nutritious food , buy some silk or satin pillows cases and head wraps and use moisturizing hair products
You didn't overprocess the hair which is good Avri, just need a trim, hi Simas blessing coming your way guys, how is your stepdad doing Avri. Hi Georgia.
It looks good on you!
Looks good on you!
Your hair grew so long being natural
I'm disheartened that straight hair is being associated with the soft life for black women. However, at the end of the day, it's your body and your life and you must do what's best for you Avri 🙏
I hope after this process you'll have more free time to chase your dreams.
I agree it is very sad. And it's also very frightening to me the total disregard for the cancer causing chemicals in these products. By I guess that's the price we have to pay for soft flowing, easy to handle tresses.
I'm happy to see more Black women freeing themselves from the backlash of being seen as less than or anti-black because they decide to chemically straighten their hair. I've been natural for 5 years and I will be getting a relaxer very soon. I am tired of struggling and being unhappy with my hair, and burying it under wigs, braids and weaves because the styles only last a day or two. Contrary to popular belief, I had healthy relaxed hair, which was much easier to manage and I can't wait to get my time back. Everyone has to do what's best for them and I applaud her for doing just that.
@@lindatoliver2267people often bring up cancer without saying the whole story. There is a 2% increase of cancer only with EXCESSIVE USE. This means you must relax your hair more than 6 times per year, every year for decades in order to increase your risk by 2%. The researchers also said that there is no definitive proof that relaxers cause cancer, so more research is needed. What is more likely to cause cancer is obesity, the food we eat , smoking, drinking and sedentary life. The black community should be more concerned about that. Too many people fear mongering
