I believe in the early 2000's, Klipsch sold a Promedia 5.1 or 7.1 system. If memory servers correctly, they were colored silver.

@@0326Hambone I bought the Klipsch 5.1 speaker system in late 2000/2001 - it was all black. It was awesome. I still have it packed away in the original box. In early 2014, I heard a rattling sound coming from one of the speakers. I removed the grille and noticed the foam around the cone had ruptured. I ordered a repair kit but during my repairs, the cone was slightly off-center. If I recall, it did improve the speaker. I ended up buying Definitive Incline speakers and have used them since. When I get a chance I'll unbox the 5.1 system again to see how it sounds.

Klipsch hit there high peak on cpu speakers and a powered subwoofer way back in the day, it was a 4.1 THX and it was powered on the dual 6in sub with a Bash amp which was awsome, till a year ago... an it finally just tanked out on me. But respectfully, they were old, thinkn late 90's early 2000's.. But I had changed the foam around subwoofer speaker, but man that set would shake your room with that lil sub. Wanna say it was 500 watt sub, but I kept reading 400 elsewhere. Woulda been cool to heard the specs on these new ones, I may missed it tho. Dunno why some1 like klipsch will not put a gr8 over top cpu speaker set. Seems every1 gave up on tower table cpu's. Shame...

I was considering adding these to my desk setup as I used the regular Promedias 2.1 in the past and these look like a nice upgrade but two things kept me from it: it only connects to your computer via analog 3.5mm jack and I wanted a USB capable speaker to bypass the DAC on my laptop and get a cleaner look plugging the USB port at the back of my monitor, second thing is the subwoofer is ported and I wanted a sealed sub which is supposed to be better for music... I ended up going with the Audioengine A2+ with the matching S6 sealed sub instead for a bit more but they were a better match for my setup anyways in aesthetics.

I have this model, several observations from the unit I got:
    1. the sub doesn't "rumble" the same way a 200w 10 inch sub does
    2. without the sub, the satellite speakers sound THIN, sub is needed for the body
    3. once it goes to sleep, it takes quite a lot of input to wake it up. This causes it to go from silent to very loud in an instant
    4. This sounds 90% identical to the original promedia 2.1, which costs around $150 less than this. Yes I have both systems.

I have the original Promedia 4.1 THX as well which is touted as a 400w system. The sub is a dual 6.5 unit. I've been running it like the the 2.1 though opting out of the 3rd and 4th satellite speakers. I just purchased this Heritage system. Your comment is pretty spot on. I'd even say that the old dual 6.5 sub is punchier than the new 8, but also muddier. Overall the new Heritage system produces IMO higher quality more "audiophile" like sound, but is not a HUGE improvement over the old Promedia sets.
Also, updating the firmware solves a great deal of the problems in your number 3. However, it my system the channels will still intermittently shut off at very low volumes.

I have the old Pro Media 4.1 THX set from the early 2000s, and just purchased this. I agree with you that it's not a huge upgrade in sound quality. The upgrade in sound quality is incremental, mainly coming from less punch but more refined bass. The main upgrade is admittedly subjective, but IMO is the aesthetics.

Ive had these for few months now and have had few issues. One issue I have had is that when your source volume is low the speakers turn off as if there is no input. To fix this I turned my amp up as if it didnt matter. Adjust the volume with the remote for the speakers. The speakers themselves sound about the same as the Audioengines I had before but with a sub there is more range. The sub sound OK but is not like one of the Klipch subwoofers you might have on a bigger stereo system. I use this system on my computer as I listen to music a lot while doing other things at my computer. Im using an PS Audio Sprout for an amp that is connected to my computer. As of now Im seeing lots of these for sale on Ebay for less than you can find them for sale on any other site. But many have problems and one can never be sure if they function like new. Good luck and I hop you find something that works for you.

@My 2 Cents. Well, the "other" speakers you are referring to before these were bad and are still bad. Now, the Klipsch 2.1's from 2000 that were made here in America for a handful of years before they were ultimately also cheapened up significantly with production moved to China were of excellent quality due to materials used only because the speakers were detachable and you had a proper Class D amplifier that resulted in phenomenal sound. they were heavy and robust as quality demanded in that type of circumstance. Around 2003 / 04, the Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's were released at $399. I in fact have 4 pairs of these. 2 for parts, and 2 that have been rebuilt with fans added. While I don't expect you to go out and seek a pair of the 5.1 Promedia's ... you should as they are breath taking. I have these new "heritage" 2.1's and they again, are not that great. However, if you are new to the 2.1's, they are better than most other PC oriented sound solutions. Again, the amp has been cheapened up and the sound quality, the power is all but gone now. I really wish you had a proper comparison between the old OLD models and these speakers. In short, the Klipsch 2.1's used to be a very excellent speaker system but over time as one might expect, they have cheapened everything up. Depending where you live, you can put up a "watch for product" search on Facebook market place for "promedia" and or "klipsch" and eventally you will find the old speakers and usually for cheap. You want the 2.1's with the serial at the bottom and detachable speaker wires. In fact, research this a bit more so you know what to look for. You are looking for the 2.1's from roughly 20 to 17 years ago, in that time frame. Seriously do this. The older speakers are somewhat rare to find, but it can be done. It would be a fun challenge for you. You will be shocked at home much better these older 2.1's are. It's a night and day difference.

I hope Klipsch volume control and bass control on the subwoofer doesn't have flaws. I'm curious how the remote control works with the controls behind? If the subwoofer control or volume control behind is set to 25% and then you use your remote, does the remote control override the analog control knobs? Even if the volume/bass knob on the subwoofer says it's at 25%? I hope Klipsch doesn't have defects like how Razer Nommo Pro had defects with Bluetooth. My Bluetooth on the Razer Nommo Pro stopped working within 2 weeks of use because I was using the app to turn off and then use the analog button to turn it on. Very nice presentation on Klipsch new version 2.1 I have the older version with THX which later Klipsch removed that name on the other line I bought at Costco. That version line doesn't feature the THX so I have one and the other. This new version is more appealing with that classic heritage line look. I'm sure there is a bit difference in sound quality and nice with features such as a remote and moon switch to turn off sub while the other versions you have to turn down the sub volume knob. I didn't really notice a difference with the THX version and the line after that.

I've been reading up on the Promedia 2.1 bluetooth without THX certification and the article I read stated Klipsch has to fork over a lot of money for testing to get the new setup THX certified, which would raise the price of the unit. They're supposedly the same sound quality as the THX certified.

Not sure if you had a system on the previous power setup, but sometimes a hum can come from a grounding issue with your electrical wiring in your home. If you're on a really nice power conditioner, that can clear that up. If you're in an older home at all, I'd be more suspicious of that than the speakers.

I was EXTREMELY happy with my Promedias, which I initially bought in 2002 (the 4.1 system, which sadly were destroyed in a fire), and then the replacement 2.1 that I bought in 2005, now after 17 years of faithful service, one of the clips on the amp at the back of the sub broke, and it actually still worked fine for the past 6 months, until the wire for that loose clip section became fidgety and added static. I kept moving it around to get non-static feedback, and it ended up smoking the amp.
It might still work, but don't want to risk it. I loved this system to bits, so I'm hoping this new "Heritage" version will at least be on par with quality and durability.

For anyone else reading, I should be picking up an Edifier S350DB system over the next couple of days, which I found at a discount. Based on everything I read, it should be a solid step up from the ProMedia, but let's see.
I'll wait to comment on a comparison, but based on price alone, where I am (Canada), the retail price of the Edifier system is near double what we can get the ProMedia 2.1 THX for. If I didn't find the Edifier system at this discount, I'd probably go for the ProMedias again.
Will update if anyone replies and is curious to know.

@@ijuicedd8019 Hey, so overall I'm happy with the S350DB. It's a bit of a different sound and not as in your face as the ProMedias. It's possible that my ears just got used to the way those sounded over the course of 20 years.
The only thing that's bothered me really is the relative loudness. The Edifiers peak out fairly quickly in volume compared to the ProMedias, though I don't know about the heritage system.
I picked up the S350DB brand new for $330 cash btw. If I had to choose again I'd go with the ProMedia. I just love the way they sound.
The S350DB is also fairly premium and there are sounds I've heard on there that I didn't hear with the Klipsch, but personally I really enjoyed how the ProMedias "pop" and really highlight aspects of most music, whereas the Edifiers, in my experience, are more neutral.
I may put the Edifiers in another room for guests to use and pick up another set of the Klipsch for main use. Im surprised how attached to them I've gotten. 20+ years is a long damn time.
