I have to admit, I've never done a tea ceremony but I have three zisha tea pets sitting on my desk just because I like them. They do occasionally get washed in tea, but not my favorite Market Spice. It has enough orange oil in it to require a special non-corroding storage container, so I'm afraid it could damage the clay.
One more question if you would please, I've seen so many different vids on tea pets, the tea etc. . .however a -very- rare few vids briefly mention cleaning / maintaining the tea pet. After you are done with the tea and are cleaning up, do you run clean water over the tea pet then dry / buff it with a soft cloth? Or just dry it off? I know you don't use soap on it, it's the cleaning that I'm not sure on. I've just rinsed them (I have 4) under the faucet then dry them with a soft cloth. What -should- I be doing to keep them maintained? Thanks in advance.
Hi Wendy, the purpose of pouring tea on tea pets is to season them with tea to create a shine. Therefore it is not necessary to rinse it, instead it would be good to use a seasoning brush to spread out evenly the oil from the tea on the tea pet. Buff is good and also helps to create an even patina. if you wonder how the brush look like, please check out the link treasuregreen.com/collections/accessories/products/wooden-teapot-seasoning-brush thanks for watching.
Hello. I enjoyed your video. I am not from a culture that does any of this and I don’t believe the pets have souls. With that, would it still be acceptable for me to have a tea pet simply because it’s cute and fun?
Hi Leah, thanks for your question. Absolutely! These tea pets can be as serious or as fun as you'd like. There are no rules to using tea pets and it would not be disrespectful to collect tea pets on a more playful note. Thanks for watching!

Hey Ann, yes! The Six Gentlemen set refers to the six tea utensils used in a tea ceremony. The six tools can vary sometimes, but they typically will include a tea scoop, tongs, tea pick, funnel, stirrer, and caddy.
Yes, though fair warning, if your tea pet is a pig, it may escape and nibble your shoelaces when you're not lookin. Southern summwr mischief is extracted from sweet tea after all

Do you perhaps know what the 6 gentlemen are in a gong fu tea set?
Hey Ann, yes! The Six Gentlemen set refers to the six tea utensils used in a tea ceremony. The six tools can vary sometimes, but they typically will include a tea scoop, tongs, tea pick, funnel, stirrer, and caddy.
Should a tea pet be rinsed with water after a tea session or ceremony?
Teracotta tea pets are best nourished with tea so there’s no need to rinse them with water!
Can I give my tea pets good old classic southern iced tea lol
Yes, though fair warning, if your tea pet is a pig, it may escape and nibble your shoelaces when you're not lookin. Southern summwr mischief is extracted from sweet tea after all
As long as your tea is not sweetened, then you're all good!
Weird question: I've seen "Boxwood" tea pets. . . can they be treated the same as the ceramic / clay tea pets?
Hello Wendy!! if i am understanding this correctly, boxwood is carved wood. Since it is a non porous material there is not point seasoning it. But it can a beautiful decorative piece on the tea table.
What do the colors mean for the pig fortune? I was thinking of getting an orange/brown one❤
