Thanks for stopping in to watch this weeks video. Are you starting a food and supply stock or do you have one and can offer any tips? Thank you all for sharing. It’s gonna be fun getting this together. I will definitely share all the tips along the way. 💜🩷🛒✨
You are doing a great job. Please don’t doubt yourself or compare yourself to other influencers. I only have a few tips, if your family drinks milk.. you can get some of the shelf stable boxes of milk at dollar tree or other stores. You can also buy powdered milk to keep on the shelf for those times when it’s hard to get to a store but you just need a little bit for a recipe.
Also, shop case lot sales if there are any stores near you that do that. 5 gallon buckets typically hold 25 pounds of flour, sugar, rice, dried beans, etc
Biggest and most helpful tip I have for you is to get a Sharpie marker and mark every single canned good, bottle, packaged or boxed item’s expiration date in an obvious place. That way you can see at a quick glance when something’s best by date is. It will save you a ton of time moving forward and it minimizes the chance of something getting overlooked. I do this every time I grocery shop. Unload the bags, mark the dates with my Sharpie and then put the new items behind the older items.
First of all, congratulations for being proactive and taking control of your disability! Denial is so much easier. It sounds like the pandemic taught you pantry inventory management. You're on the right track.
Shawna, so much respect for you. Instead of focusing on the validity of emotion involved in surrendering your license, you are grabbing control and getting ready for the future like a boss. You are inspiring.🎉
Thank you. ✨🩷💜 I’m nervous but I know I can get us to comfortable. I worry about the girls handling it but that’s for facing when it comes. Thanks for watching
Great video. Don't let canning food (meats, etc.) intimidate you. My mom taught me when I was 51, and then she passed away the following year (last November). Canning just has some very specific steps, but as long as you make yourself a list of each step and follow your list, you will be successful. I find it very rewarding now. God bless you and your family.
I’ve been talking with my husband and we are definitely going to try it out this summer. I wish I had learned that because it would have saved so much waste. I can’t believe we can even do that for preservation. I’ve been so engrained for commercial dependents no never thought of it until a couple years ago learning about it
Also it may look like alit but depending on how many are in the family determines how much you use. A family of 4 might eat 3 or 4 cans soup ir ravioli at one time for 1 meal or 2 cans of vegetables at one meal when looking at your canned goods count how many meals you could make and then add up how many days would that get you. Also if people lose power eat your refrigerator items first then freezer leave can goods for last
As a old lady and hardcore couponer. Get your cvs and walgreens dollar general apps. Ibotta also. Watch the couponer apps. Running kimono etc. You got this. Reglue your seal, you can but seal at depot and glue on cheap. You got this. Learn to run a rotating pantry. Im old your young. Its going to be the best tool to learn. Run a rotating pantry. ❤
Hello came across your channel, I also have vision issues .It's a daily struggle but I keep positive I have to have my family read to me etc I have my pantry over stocked due to not being able to drive myself ,Applause for your courage and strength !!
Happy you were proactive as well! I have retinitis pigmentosa. What do you have? My one eye makes things more difficult than anything it’s more limited but I’m able to turn the size up on my devices as of yet to help.
I just ran across your video in my feed and I decided to watch you. Your doing a great job of stocking up for the winter. I was raised having a fully stocked pantry, taught how to preserve all foods that we raised including how to butcher chickens hogs, cattle, deer etc. My husband and I started our homestead over 40 years ago. We live in an area that has bad icestorms and extended power outages roads becoming impassable for over a week. So I always keep fully stocked pantries. Why I say pantries is mine has 8levels the first is my everyday working pantry #2 is my backup pantry #3 is my long term #4 canning pantry which contains all of my homecanned foods,#5 storebought pantry everything i purchase #6 dehydrated foods pantry#7 is the freezer#8 cellar pantry storage pantry. I cook and bake from scratch, pressure can meats , soups, stews, vegetables, fruits, jams, jellies juices etc. I waterglass our eggs during the spring and summer so when our chickens are mounting and slow down laying we do not have to purchase them. We always try to keep at least 1-2 years supply in our everyday and backup pantry. I don't buy cream soups I make a shelf stable powdered base mix, same with gravy and seasonings. I know not all people were raised this way and gardening, preserving, butchering their own meats are something they might not ever want to try. There's nothing wrong with that either. The main object is to be prepared however you choose to do it. Your doing great, keep up the great work. I decided to subscribe today I enjoyed
Shawna, just for future reference, it was mildew in your fridge, not black mold. Mildew is usually not toxic and is caused by the moisture, and condensation, in your fridge. If you get it again don't worry, just clean with a good cleaner. Stocking up for the winter is good. It can also save you some money in the long run. Good video.
It’s very important to be prepared with food for your family. If anyone is paying attention to what’s going on. Don’t run out. Thank you for sharing..❤
Sharing your life and how you do things is a great thing. I really enjoy watching videos like this, especially when someone is making something that I've never tried. I always save it so I can watch it while I'm trying to make that dish.
Don't forget to stock your first aid kit and emergency items like batteries for flashlights etc. You can get a lot of these things at DT. Love to see how proactive you are with preparing! I'm the exact same way. It makes me feel better about the things I can't control
Krrp in mind mice or other pest that like to get in, especially since they are drawn to the cardboard or paper nearby for nesting. I admire you for starting your pantry. Looks good so far.
I do not know where you live but research in your city for door to door service for disability and elderly people. Most cities have it as an extension of the transportation system. You make a reservation twenty for hour in advance and they take you to Dr., store, shopping, beach where ever within their scope and schedule. You submit their qualifications papers for approval and it keeps you from depending on strangers or family that have their own stuff to do. I visually challenge too and I use it in my city. It is God's blessing.
Oh that’s good to know I thought this was for medical needs only. I’m not sure what we have but I will remember this if I need. My oldest starts driving training in the summer coming up so hopefully she helps a lot in exchange for a paid vehicle lol
Came upon your video on my feed. Just to note, for food safety, remove all food and keep them in an igloo cooler chest while you are cleaning. Also, remove all food items before cleaning and do not leave food items in the fridge while you have cleaners products on your fridge surfaces. The chemicals could make your food items toxic. You are definitely putting in lots of work into your food pantry !
Here is a tip that helps me. I have cataracts so I use a marker to write expiration dates on the top of my cans box of noodles shelf stable milk and on the bags of noodles it's easier to see for me. Great prepping haul❤
Hello. U are a doing a good job!!. Never underestimate who u are as a child of God! God is our provider, a way maker, promise keeper! We can live in fear but faith in God.. stay encouraged ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your story about your childhood as far as having the structure on home making teachings. Good for you that you are aware of that. You’re doing a great job over there, from what I can see! 🤷🏽♀️Definitely couldn’t tell that you didn’t learn this growing up, wow! Your videos never disappoint! I truly need to do some pantry cleaning, and stocking. Thanks again for the tips.✨ One of the ones that really stuck out for me today is getting a smaller deep freezer so that we don’t waste. When all my children were still at home we had a lot of meat and as they got older, we did start wasting cause I kept buying in bulk out of habit. thank you for that reminder. I appreciate it ❤
Thank you. Yes I’m passionate about creating a positive lifestyle for the kids. I definitely learned things from them but not much about what I share. I research a lot and have learned from so many other woman and men in online communities. I’m so excited to start using the deep freezer. That was my issue to things going bad and/ or I will buy veggies and if me and James only eat them they go bad. I don’t want that to happen anymore.
I agree, it definitely doesn’t have to be that extreme but making sure you have the basics is a must. I kind of felt the same when I first started being more prepared. Now I only buy what we use and I’m very intentional and strategical in so many aspects of my life. This week I bought a flat of beans, vegetables, and fruits from Kroger. I resonate with you so much. I didn’t have those older women passing down their home and life skills so I had to teach myself and it’s been a long but meaningful experience and journey. I’m still learning, unlearning, and I’m loving.
Yes yes! The process is on going. It’s like we don’t know what we need to know until we need it so we spin our wheels a bit to get our footing! I haven’t been to Kroger in forever. Are they one of the stores that sells the case slots? Is that what a flat would be there? I’m preparing for November because with the holidays canned goods go on sale at the lowest
@@MomLikely I just started shopping more at Kroger but the flat is basically just the case, the flat or case had 12. I’m doing the same for the holidays, I’ve been stocking up little by little for them since the end of June because I have 3 of my 4 children’s birthdays in December plus we are a family of many backgrounds and we embrace them all so it’s a lot from Halloween til New Year’s. I stocked up on butter this time last year when it was $1.99 at Kroger, I think I got like 40 pounds. I use to extreme coupon as well but slowed down for about a year but I’m getting the sense to get back to it.
@ShanahIgriega oh ok yes that’s good! When I couponed I did products so wasn’t efficient in food deals. I need to go look around that’s a good mark down! A big successful holiday always starts way ahead. Ok recently signed up for Walgreens again because I haven’t been shopping drug store reward programs for a while.
@@MomLikely I haven’t been to Walgreens in a long time either but I’m running low on toothbrushes, paste, soap and body washes so my 8 year old reminded me that we’re couponers lol. Ive been more focused on food deals for the last year. Publix has been my favorite! There deals and coupon policy is the best in my opinion. If you have one near you can definitely get some great deals using store and manufacturing coupons.
Shawna your video is amazing, you have made me started thinking about my own foods and possibly stocking up. I normally just do a basic grocery haul but never thought of stocking up on certain items. Thanks for sharing. 😊
It is wonderful to have a pantry. I’m so glad you said don’t buy what you don’t eat. Your pantry is looking so good. Did you say you had another channel? 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Great video. I am envious of your good canned goods stock and I’m going to Aldi to get some beans, canned veggies, potatoes, tomatoes etc, but buy 3-4 at a time. I feel like we also don’t use all of our 2020 canned goods… so I’ll also dip in to our stock if need be, week to week. I also find Aldi the cheapest for most and here we buy meats usually elsewhere but sometimes there too. We buy our eggs milk and coconut milk there, as it’s also cheaper for our weekly food stock😊 you are handling your vision disability very well. I and lots of people have a lot to learn about your determination, bravery and planning your life with a level head. Major kudos.
Thank you so much. I try to just act like it’s not a big deal because I’m fortunate to have what I have. Depending on my one eye if both were that bad it would definitely slow me down far more but I get away with more because one eye is still operating more lol I agree the canned goods are excellent deal there. In this one I hailed the spices and grabbed a sugar and flour. The spices are only a buck! Their staples definitely can’t be beat. I started getting our eggs at Meijer or Sam’s because I still go there for some stuff and their larger pack is cheaper to buy more vs 12. They are organic to. Also gifting canned goods is cute to do in home making style baskets if you won’t use it.
I started last week a glutenfree diet, because I react bad on wheat bread. So, I am stocking up with glutenfree products. The internet is my best friend to find out what stuff is glutenfree or not. I moved a year ago and in my previous house I had to be careful with putting my food away. The appartment building was a hotspot for mice. I store everything in glass containers, because I don't like it to store my food in plastic. I live alone, so I don't need to stock up a ton of food, but I want some for when I get sick or something else happens. I also have always enough food for my two cats, so nobody has to run to the store for that when I get sick. It is nice to have a litlle stock. It gives me peace of mind. Irma from the Netherlands
I agree. I try to avoid many boxed foods and I don’t eat wheat bread. Depending where you store your food I have seen people put their dried or boxed food in clean tubs so it has that extra protection from rodents and bugs. Really great if you’re using a closet or room also. Idk if you have Aldi but they have a lot of gluten free items.
@julieadams8968 I was not raised in a religion but I will say the Mormon community that I’ve been blessed to cross paths with through online communities have taught me so much. I respect and admire the family dynamics
❤❤ Thanks so much for this series. I've been wanting to do something like this for a couple of years and didn't know how/where to start. You have such a kind energy that it's easy to watch and understand this journey! 😊😊😊😊 Thank you for sharing!!!
I use lists all of the time. I even make lists for things that I want to accomplish per day. I don't go shopping without a list. I even have my daughter making lists for groceries. Making lists makes life so much easier. Plus, you can see what you've accomplished by checking things off of the lists.
Use a thin cloth and a table knife to get in that hard to reach spot in the refrigerator door where you were trying to get the mold out. I use a table knife to get into many of the harder places that even a small sponge or something like that won't fit.
One thing you could maybe do is trying various plant milks and see which ones you and your family members like (for cereals, cooking, coffee, tea, smoothies etc). plant milks are usually shelf stable at room temperature when unopened and they're good for 1-2 years!! helps me to prep for breakfast options~ my favourite is oat milk, but a lot of people also like soy, almond or rice milk~
Hi there, new subscriber here, thank you for this video, it is very helpful. I have recently re started a prepper pantry. I did start about 2 years ago, but life happened and we depleted it rather quickly. So I have started again. This time, I am working on 3 different pantries, 1 family panty the food we actually do eat, 2 help pantry for those we need to help and 3 barter pantry. I have started to clear out my spare bedroom because no one comes to stay or even visit. so I thought I would rather use it for a pantry. So I am working on blocking the window out and getting to get shelves up etc. Blessings
Yes get it! I never knew about the “types” that sounds like a great idea. The extra bedroom will be nice. That’s a big project but will give you so much peace of mind.
we keep at least a 6 month supply of food. i honestly suggest making a menu based off of a week of meals you eat that mainly uses self stable items. then look at what items you can swap out for the perishable parts of the meals and remember to rotate your stock.
I have the same brown cupboards that you have in your basement. Mine are also in the basement. You can stack canned goods 3 high in those. That's what I've done.
Hey Shawna! Happy Saturday !✨ Thanks for this video. No I am not stocked up on pantry items the way that I should be Thank you for these tips. You did a very nice job cleaning and organizing. Tfs✨
@@MomLikely I was just talking to my son about renewing my Sam’s Club, and stocking up after I watched your video today💖 we usually do buy some food together, but they are more into organic eating. I haven’t crossed all the way to that side yet. I’m still a little old school. Pray over your food and eat!😂😂😂 Also, thank you for the tip on stocking up on Aldi canned goods. I don’t know why I never thought of them before . I like their food and they are very reasonable.
@cozyatcocos yes absolutely. I’m kind of there too. The meat at Sam’s that is organic is the same price as the less bulk size in my Meijer and Walmart. At least for beef. Aldi has a lot of organic, non preservative, and gluten free options. I got the Sam’s club bug because my favorite name brand home supplies like laundry soap, cleaners, and trash bags are an amazing deal especially for the name brands and quality.
@@MomLikely Oooh please share on the home products, especially garbage bags. The ones I normally buy are so overpriced and they don’t work as well as they used to it just seems like they’re changing the quality of products lately. Any good recommendations for quality paper towels? I used to get bounty, but even their quality has changed lately, but the price of course is still the same . With my schedule.( I work nights ) I would like to start buying in bulk again so I don’t have to shop as often. When you work nights well at least for me, I don’t always feel like shopping during the day. The longer I can hold off from buying is better for me.😂
@cozyatcocos I definitely will. I have always felt that way about products, having extra because it sucks to be out in that moment. Ok also feel the same about ALOT of stuff today. Even clothing brands quality have gone down. Every time there is an inflation we get less product for the same price or more.
We really don't know if the people who work emptying the ships are going on strike in Jan. The weather has had quite a bit to do with prices and what will be available. Like in GA, they got to much rain so it flooded out the peanut crop so either peanut butter is going to be expensive or we may not be able to get it once the where houses run out. The other peanuts we get are from overseas. I kept track of this when I was buying my food
You should look into Mylar bags. You can put rice, beans, pasta, sugar, etc in the bags and it will extend the shelf life of your items if stored properly.
Yes! We have a bag of them but we haven’t used them yet. They are an incredible invention. We learn so little about these things. It’s a shame for everyone to collectively not know.
Another thing that I thought that I would tell you is that sugar may be hard to get later this winter as it also comes from across the seas so has to come over by ships.
I did remember to purchase some regular soups for when it's cold and I really don't want to cook. I'm not taking about the cream of soups. I'm talking about bean and bacon, potatoes and cheeses, noodle, tomato, and like that.
Hi Shawna, You’re so wise for your age. Stocking up is never a bad idea. Like you said, buying things you know you’ll use. 2020 ugh I bought a bunch of tuna in oil? I HATE tuna in oil….! I’m sorry you have to stop driving soon, being prepared for it should help a lot though. I hands down believe Aldi has the best canned corn. Not the creamed corn though. I’ve put their corn to a side by side with name brand. Aldi wins every time. I believe you said you live in Michigan. My Dad grew up in the UP. Not only your eyesight but SNOW can make travel difficult to impossible at times. I live in Minnesota so. I get it. You’re doing a great job for your own peace of mind. One thing I tend to stock as well is canned broth. Chicken and beef, they come in handy more often than not. Have a happy Saturday and I’d love to see your cooking videos. I get in such a rut sometimes. ❤
Thank you💜🩷 yes I make sure to buy in water for as much as I can. I also stock up on boullion cubes. So many times I didn’t have broth or stock and now I just boil some water and toss in cubes. Saves space also to do it that way. Premade is great though especially if we don’t have water 😩. I’m going to feel alot of relief having supplies.
Your video just popped up and I really enjoyed it. I have so much stuff that I am buying to put back, but I don’t know where to set up my storage area. I think I’ll clear out my formal dining room, we have another room with a table in it. Do you grow any food? I have 12 raised garden beds. Started my garden after the pandemic. It is now my addiction 👩🏽🌾. Thanks so much for all your helpful suggestions and I did subscribe. Take care 🎃🍂😊
Welcome. I’m Shawna! You will enjoy having more on hand. My husband and I were just talking today and next grow season we are going to grow a few things. I tried a bucket garden and failed miserably but I didn’t all wrong. I wNt a raised bed but with our dogs not sure. We may have to have an inset fence. What do you grow? We are thinking potatoes, cucumber, and maybe start a fruit tree. Pop
Do you own a generator? During Hurricane Sandy, I lost so much food. I went food shopping not thinking about if the power would go out...OMG it did and I was not ready, after 2 days I had to throw my food out. At the time I was living in an apartment. The year after that I just brought bags of ice and a really large ice cooler to store food in. Now I'm a home owner and things are much better now. Take care and nice video.
Hi Shawna I have done a huge declutter of my spare rooms I am turning one room into a food storage and the other room for cleaning supplies love your videos ❤❤
Welcome! I’m Shawna. That’s a good rule. I told my husband last night is I could only buy one cleaning product it would be dawn blue dish soap because of the versatility. I buying most single items in a can to use also vs buying a don’t more stew for example.
I also like going to Sam's Club but I only go about 4 times a year because it's so far away. When I do go there, I'll buy 3 or 4 of their 12boxes of Kleenex because it's much cheaper that way. I have all year allergies, plus with winter; it's great to be stocked up.
Get a BIG contianer of Bay Leaves 🍃 and put inside bags of flour & other dry goods. Also, put inside cupboards on the shelves to keep away moths, etc. I even put them in my dresser drawers.
Get a vertical commercial freezer do not go for a deep freezer (chest) a commercial freezer has temp regulators and is more accessible plus doesn’t take as much space as a deep one get baskets and label each with dates and contenta so ur food doesn’t get freezer burnt also a food sealer would be a good investment for freezing meats and other things
Do you have an Aldi's close to you ? You may want to check them out as their name brand is good and usually cheaper that the Walmart brand of foods. I just love their canned goods. That is much of my canned goods in my pantries.
I'm blessed enough that I have 2 freezers not counting the one on my refrigerator. One is a 21 cubic foot upright and the other is a 5.5 cubic foot chest freezer.
When we can, I like to stock up. We don’t do a lot of canned things either. Meat is the bulk of what we get in bulk along with the things we use a lot of. We don’t have very many stores to choose from (I’m in ND) so sams and Costco is the best for bulk.
Yes the prices are good! I’m trying to try Sam’s meats more. I thought about getting the frozen bagged chicken breast there vs the fresh but not sure how they cook up. Have you tried them? Seems better deal by weight than the packaged.
@@MomLikely I prefer the fresh tbh. I finally got a meat slicer so I can make my meat a bit more uniform lol and easier to cut up! So excited to try it!
@kellymason4015 that’s what my preference is also. A meat slicer!!? Never heard of this. I have to google it. Dang that awesome! That’s a a whole machine like they use to slice deli meat!
@kellymason4015 I’m glad you shared this with me. I’m putting this on my research list for tonight’s bedtime scroll lol I never thought about this outside of commercial use.
Be very mindful of the ingredients in your food. Check the labels because that could be contributing majorly to your conditions. Also, detox! The Yuka app is a great help. Food dyes, and foods that don’t only have basic ingredients try to stay away from. To store your grains, freeze them first and then put them into an airtight container with bay leaves. Bay leaves even on your shelves around the food.
This the reason I hate processed boxed goods. I eat cereal sometimes, chips here and there, ice cream, Ramon noodles but otherwise I don’t snack much on boxed goods. Oreos I like lol but moderation . I just recently started freezing my flour and sugar. I haven’t heard of the bay leaf though.
I’ve been doing the same thing purchasing food and storing it only the things that I use in my home so it don’t go to waste and this is because if you’re a believer in the Lord tough times are gonna start coming and people aren’t gonna be able to purchase food.
Shawna, I enjoy watching your video, I can't imaged how hard it to it is to give something up. but I wanted to share something unique I have what is called Schmid Fraccaro Syndrome, in other words its called Cat Eye Symptoms, basically I have cat eyes, the glare of the sun bother me, i cant see at night when i am driving at but only between 1 in 50,00 to 1 in 150,00 people in the world has it Causes cat eye syndrome happens when there's a problem with 22nd chromosome, i am the only one in my family that has this and there is no cure for it . I was born with cataracs, so basically ive had them since I was born, i have some new ones cataracs surfacing, since i had had my whole life there isnt much they can do for it
Oh wow never heard of this. Sun and screen protection is equally important for you as it is me, especially with the cataracts. I’m early in the cataracts. I’m told eventually I will need a lens replacement though. Many have said with what I have, it really improves their vision, well with what they have left. The short version of my condition is “tunnel vision” I suffer from peripheral vision loss and night blindness. Where I can see it’s mostly good with my glasses but the cataracts I think makes some stuff blurry. I have retinitis pigmentosa. My biggest hurdle is stairs, dim lit areas, and dark.
@stanparker3636 there’s water droplets at the bottom of my door. It is not pulling off but the seal must be giving out. I can see how the paper would help though. Even seeing the for that appears on the shelving
I used to love the walking dead I watched it for awhile but I too had a dream about zombies and I actually woke up sweating and thinking it was real and I haven't watched since either lol 🤣.
I keep a book of the lowest price I have paid for a item and when I see that said item is on sale for lower than I paid for than last time I will buy it. I have enough food in my pantry and freezer that I’ve been using this year and next and only buying milk and eggs.
That’s great! I was just reviewing some products thinking how I was going to buy again because I don’t want it to empty and don’t want to buy many things for price. My bulk items from Sam’s I am going to revisit in 6 months and see because some stuff I don’t know what we use exactly now that the kids are older. The food I want to do your same system for some shelf items. I’m think purchasing a portion of meat is going to be the best bet over any store. Aldi staple goods are pretty affordable and available as well. Like sugar etc.
@ the best purchase I made was a food saver. When meat is discounted I buy it at a great price and repackage it in single serving size in vacuum sealed bags and they can last up to 12 months in the freezer that way. The money I have saved on meat has paid for the food saver 10 times over.
Yes! I have one of those. I haven’t purchased a volume yet worth storing because I usually only have enough for a few days at a time and it tired of shopping so much.
Great beginnings to your journey. I'd suggest a food dehydrator to cut down on space limits. Also canning, water bath and pressure canning will preserve your foods. Living in Florida or anywhere nowadays, having a solar power station to keep the freezer and fridge running in a power outage is something to consider.
Good job for sharing your story sharing your life. I also have that disconnect with my mother so I also wish the same thing and you are so right about a lot of the stuff like wishing you had the elder woman to help you be the mother you wanna be wishing you had the elder woman to teach you how to set up a household how to set up a pantry how to do these things I feel the exact same way. It’s so funny because I wanted to start a RUclips channel about being me, myself being a disabled single Mother of African-American in Spanish just sent and with all the struggles that I’m having and have had due to not having that connection with my mother so do not feel so alone I was told that us caught “millennials have a lot of issues with our appearance, don’t feel so alone on that, dearbut congratulations. Good job you’re doing great.
I’ve been stoking up for years. The danger with that is you sometimes forget what you have and they go bad, discolor or you just completely forget you have things. You have to be so anal about what you have, where you have it and what you run out of so you can replace it in a timely manner. Also, I wanted to buy a half a cow not a whole one. I have a stand up freezer that I have other items in. First of all, if you want a whole anything, it would have to have its own dedicated freezer that is a chest so that it doesn’t open up by accident and ruin your expensive purchase. I inquired about a half a cow and my stand up freezer would need to be empty to accommodate the purchase. Sometimes I see more than I can physically accommodate. Think about it because it’s an expensive endeavor. The storage for dry goods, meat, everything to tide you over in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Just be careful. I tried a lot of what you’re getting ready to do and in theory it sounds good and it looks good as well, but as you said, when you originally did it in the beginning of the Covid panic, you didn’t fare so well. Good luck in whatever you do.❤
Thank you. That have is what lead me to a chest freezer. I don’t want to much. Half a cow is what I was leaning towards but even then we will probably divide it up between us and 1-2 other people and keep trying it out. Losing power is a high concern so I don’t want a huge freezer to manage but in the future maybe but not for just meat. I would like to use it for things we use also like veggies, fruits, breads, and premade meals. We live in a city area so I don’t feel the need to stock that much but having things to use regular to cut cost of buying full price and last minute is what I’m hoping for. Couponing taught me about supplies going bad like toothpaste lol so I feel you there I don’t want so much we can’t cycle through it. When I panic bought it was just whatever was on the shelf but now I’m going to plan out and get what I know we use. It sucks having the buying limits on meats and bread and stuff during the pandemic. I never want to do that again on sale items.
When you buy a half of cow, you get somewhere in the neighborhood of approximately 370-400 lbs of meat depending on what cow you pick out. An informed consumer decides what cow you want ahead of time. You decide how you want your cow fed, you go to the farm and watch the progress of your cow, you establish some sort of rapport with the farmer, you decide what sex you want, how big a cow you want and then you decide on a price. You then go meet the butcher and establish a rapport with them. You establish what cuts of meat you want. They give you a diagram that shows you the various cuts on a cow. You may want some cuts that are not listed there. You need to know to ask that. You need to know that if you eat morcija, you have to ask for certain parts of the cow that they automatically throw away. If you want the fat from your cow, (because you pay for it), you have to ask for it. If you want more hamburger meat than prime rib, you have to say that. Most of the time, depending on who you’re dealing with, a reputable butcher will explain a lot of this to you. There’s so much to know to be an informed consumer that’s why I haven’t done it yet and I’ve been debating it for 2 years now. Just do your research. Just like with anything else, buyer beware!❤
@taira5083 thank you! I’ve never heard of meeting them and negotiating. I know other I know that have bought just said they decided on the meat and bought it. I’m in Michigan so we definitely have farms and can probably set that up. I’m a ways away from that as well because I need more freezer space but with my small 5 cu ft chest freezer I am wanting to bulk buy from Sam’s to have meat on hand instead of grocery store price. I usually buy from Meijer and it’s easy more expensive. What I really love about buying from a butcher her and farm is not having to “wrap” and seal the food because they don’t for you. I’ve wanted to do this for awhile and that process of sealing and prepping the meat has been daunting. lol back in the day I used to buy like 200 bucks bundle of like 70 pounds of meat and I hated having to wrap and seal it all. We will get there! We are learning enough to navigate it. You could do what I was gonna do though and start by sharing with friends and family. Everyone can chip in and have alittle meat at a farm price. We are definitely doing half cow and sharing to start though because your right it’s a big commitment.
I’m sorry. I don’t know if you can negotiate. I guess everything is negotiable if you buy enough but when you get your meat from the butcher after the fee is paid, your meat is already sealed how you want it and labeled. You pay the farmer for the cow. Grass fed is one price. Grain fed is one price. Grain/grass fed is one price. The next payment is to the butcher. Totally separate from the farmer. He cuts the meat, bags and labels the meat and gets it ready for you to pick it up.
I have a coworker that splits buying a whole cow with 3 others. Keep an inventory book in your pantry area and do weekly checks at first then switch to monthly checks. This keeps foods from going bad and keeps you from overstocking items
Unless you have a generator for all the perishable items you will lose so much money. my friend stocked her small freezer but when Helene hit, she had to evacuate and when she returned everything was lost, she said it smelled awful also so be careful with can goods unless you can get them to last until 2025 why would you need to do that?
Going to do this
First of all, congratulations for being proactive and taking control of your disability!
@@MomLikely they will take their cues from you. The upside? James will have to deal with teaching them to drive.😉
@gwenpowers6856 I hear that! My oldest starts next year so I’ll be a big help still for her but in the future I’m unsure lol

@adrianne550 oh wow. That’s alot. Hopefully you’re having no pain.
Good video.
Oh good save. Hadn’t even realized this. My mind went straight to horrible.
Yes handle what we can control, I’m the same way! 🩷 hope your feeling well!
Thank you. I’ve developed the same. I was gonna write it on the cases for cans. The dates are hard to see on some.
You did an awesome job in just starting out to do winter stock up.
God bless you and your family. ❤
Hello. U are a doing a good job!!. Never underestimate who u are as a child of God! God is our provider, a way maker, promise keeper! We can live in fear but faith in God.. stay encouraged ❤❤❤
Yw. Gm. I was trying to say we can't live in fear and have faith in God.

Thanks again for the tips.✨
One of the ones that really stuck out for me today is getting a smaller deep freezer so that we don’t waste.
You can use Q-tips to get into small spaces underneath the fridge doors, kids clear straws.
Lord you are an answer to my prayers. Thanks I quickly subscribed thanks
Welcome! I’m Shawna. 🩷💜
Be mindful of food products in cardboard; bugs and rodents are drawn to them.
Yes! Once I ate cabinet bugs as a kid in cereal and I’m scarred 🤣🤣
@@MomLikely 👀
Me about moth wormins!! 😢
@@MomLikelylook for weather proof totes they have a gasket and latches so no bug will get in them
I agree, it definitely doesn’t have to be that extreme but making sure you have the basics is a must.
@@MomLikely Dollar General too is really good. I got about 25 boxes of spaghetti and elbow noodles for a penny.
You’re doing great I’m a couponer just rotating your can good I’m also a retired Cafeteria Manager.Keep up the good work
Shawna your video is amazing, you have made me started thinking about my own foods and possibly stocking up. I normally just do a basic grocery haul but never thought of stocking up on certain items. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Your welcome! Hope you get some stuff 🩷✨
It is wonderful to have a pantry. I’m so glad you said don’t buy what you don’t eat. Your pantry is looking so good. Did you say you had another channel? 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thank you. No I don’t.
Such a good service you're doing for new pantry people ❤
I'm LDS & grew up w a pantry. It has always been a blessing to us & others who need help
Absolutely. I hope you try to get you some stuff. Takes time but a little here and there will build up. Thanks for watching! 🩷💜😊
I love your videoas! I watch them a lot. This one gave me the idea to go to sams and get canned good and pasta.
I like that they have the noodle assortment box of barilla. The beef stew dinty more is a good price there.
Hey Shawna!

I was just talking to my son about renewing my Sam’s Club, and stocking up after I watched your video today💖 we usually do buy some food together, but they are more into organic eating. I haven’t crossed all the way to that side yet. I’m still a little old school. Pray over your food and eat!😂😂😂
Also, thank you for the tip on stocking up on Aldi canned goods.
❤ your insight on everything
Hey friend. Really enjoyed. Sending hugs and many blessings to you and ur family.
I did remember to purchase some regular soups for when it's cold and I really don't want to cook.
I'm not taking about the cream of soups.
I'm talking about bean and bacon, potatoes and cheeses, noodle, tomato, and like that.
Hi Shawna,
You’re so wise for your age.
@@MomLikely Bouillon cubes is a smart idea. They sometimes taste better. Thanks. I’m going to get some.

Yes we got one. It will power the fridge and freezer if we lose power. That’s what I was most worried about starting to stock the freezer.

Hi Shawna I have done a huge declutter of my spare rooms I am turning one room into a food storage and the other room for cleaning supplies love your videos ❤❤
That’s great, more functional space in the house. That’s going to be a fun project! Happy stocking! 🩷💜
New Subscriber. One rule I have for stocking up for MOST of my items is how many different ways can I use it. I like 3 or more.
Welcome!
It’s great to have all that space! Great video
Get a BIG contianer of Bay Leaves 🍃 and put inside bags of flour & other dry goods. Also, put inside cupboards on the shelves to keep away moths, etc.
I even put them in my dresser drawers.
Hi shawna, I love your videos you are amazing thanks for your video 😊

Get a vertical commercial freezer do not go for a deep freezer (chest) a commercial freezer has temp regulators
and is more accessible plus doesn’t take as much space as a deep one get baskets and label each with dates and contenta so ur food doesn’t get freezer burnt also a food sealer would be a good investment for freezing meats and other things
Do you have an Aldi's close to you ? You may want to check them out as their name brand is good and usually cheaper that the Walmart brand of foods.
I just love their canned goods.
That is much of my canned goods in my pantries.
Thank you. I will be trying this.
You can make SO much from black beans 🫘

They're my favoite bean!
I'm blessed enough that I have 2 freezers not counting the one on my refrigerator.
One is a 21 cubic foot upright and the other is a 5.5 cubic foot chest freezer.

Do you live around Battle Creek, MI ? If so, do you remember Felpaush having the 5 for $20.00 in the meat department ?
Shawna, your city should have a shuttle service called paratransit, a door-to-door service connected to the transit system.
Really, never heard of it yet.
Aldi love. Great video.
We don't have any place in our town that takes coupons.
They did about 5 years ago but stopped.
For those hard to reach/clean crevices in the fridge: Grab a hard bristle toothbrush.
Thanks for sharing and motivation 💗

Hope you and your family are doing well ♥️🌹 love you r video s ♥️🌹👍
Great video!!

Illuminating. Thank you❤😂🎉
You need to buy only what you know you’ll use but you do need shelf stable just incase
I’ve been doing the same thing purchasing food and storing it only the things that I use in my home so it don’t go to waste and this is because if you’re a believer in the Lord tough times are gonna start coming and people aren’t gonna be able to purchase food.
I don't know if this fans old But you should put your box food Inside of a plastic Container. Will it Bean out It will bring mice
Look into Azure in the future. Family may be able to help you out get to the drop off.
To help condensation in fridge put a roll of toilet paper in fridge. I did it and it works. Lynn canada
Wow really!
@@MomLikelyespecially in summer when humidity is high.
Hahaha I knew I couldn’t have been the only one 🤣
I still love the show though. It’s strange how watching this show helped me learn some basic skills. Who knew🤔
Would like to do this !! 😊sorry about your disability
I don’t have any space to store anything but my son says he buys bulk tp at Sam’s
Yes! It’s a great deal. I’m switching to them for my Scott. I’ve seen people use bins under the bed and bottom of closets for extra supplies also.
Great job❤😂🎉
Great Video always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Enjoy your day ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the tips ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great beginnings to your journey. I'd suggest a food dehydrator to cut down on space limits. Also canning, water bath and pressure canning will preserve your foods. Living in Florida or anywhere nowadays, having a solar power station to keep the freezer and fridge running in a power outage is something to consider.
Is hubby not driving?
He does. He doesn’t get home at a set time though so I won’t depend on that if we needed something at the moment.
I know it’s not always easy but we just got to keep doing our best! 🩷

I’ve wanted to do this for awhile and that process of sealing and prepping the meat has been daunting. lol back in the day
I used to buy like 200 bucks bundle of like 70 pounds of meat and I hated having to wrap and seal it all.
❤❤❤❤❤
Почему вы так много выкидываете продуктов 😮
❤
Hello 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
Unless you have a generator for all the perishable items you will lose so much money. my friend stocked her small freezer but when Helene hit, she had to evacuate and when she returned everything was lost, she said it smelled awful also so be careful with can goods unless you can get them to last until 2025 why would you need to do that?
I’m not sure you watched the video?
How are you doing today
