    10-80% in 10 minutes on a 77kWh or even better, 100kWh pack is both insane and exactly what the EV industry needs.

    I would be happy with 15 to 20 minutes chargering speed as technology improves say in next 5 years but also preserving longevity for battery pack.

    Kris. The CCS2 standard already changed. The plug is now certified over 500Amps and over 1000kW. There is now 720kW CCS2 charging equipment already in production from multiple charging equipment manufacturers.

    Im sure they will get a car that perform like the prototype but often polestar have improved the charging curve and speed with updates after release so its possible they improve it and get the the time better then 10 min. But alot of manufactures working on faster time to charge the battery so if they are the best we dont now yet

    95% of your charging will be done from home or work...Why this would change anything, is news to me...🙄A new EV that has a range of 400km that cost 15.000€ will change everything...

    US moved to the Tesla plug so not CCS-1…but I guess that’s even more flexible…

    • @bernardrr
      @bernardrr 5 месяцев назад +2

      NACS uses the CCS protocol with a two-pin Tesla-style connector. That means it can't do 3-phase AC, but it's fine for DC.
      Unlike older Tesla connectors it supports 800V.

    You just have to look at what Geely is doing with their other cars and you will understand if this is true or not. Every bit of tech in Polestar they take it from other brands.

    It's exciting but speaking for the US, does it really matter? With the lack of reliable infrastructure I'm not sure anyone will care. You already are often out of luck trying to find a charger that will reliably charge Kia and Hyundai's at what they can take. The 350 EA stations here are often the ones most likely to be down.

    The CCS2 handles 3-phase the CCS1/J3400(NACS) cannot is my understanding therefore don't try to merge countries there will be areas of different standards and plugs. US/Canada with J3400, Most of the rest of the world on CCS2, China with replacement of their GPT connector and Japan with Chademo(but maybe changing as well). 5-10 min only satisfies those ICE-heads who always claim it only takes them 5min to refill their car but never empty their bladder even on a 1000km trip which of course they do non-stop. I think charge times of 15-30min is perfectly fine. Also remember charging depends on a variety of factors from battery temp, ambient temp, SoC, etc, etc and that excludes the charging infrastructure as not everywhere has 350kW DCFC there are many sites with 50-150kW only chargers.

    Great news but not needed all the time. This means you will have to stay with the car so that you can move on to free up the charger after say 15 minutes. We have all got familiar with plug in and leave the car for some refreshment. We will need destination chargers rated at say 100kW to allow you to go and get food and a toilet break as well. This development will need a new mindset.

    Easy to get excited about something that isn't close to being released. File this away with solid state batteries, one day, but normal people won't be seeing it for a while.

    Kris, this 800V set-up in the Polestar 5 comes directly from Geely's daughter 'Zeekr', namely out of the 001 2024 model year (dual motor version with 580kW, previously 400kW output) . So I don't believe this is a Polestar development, just platform sharing by Geely, but there is nothing wrong with that of course! Basically, the models available on the Chinese market are 2 to 3 years ahead of European models in terms of technology...

      They have a partnership with Storedot and they have videos you can look up on this by the way. The new Battery packs would be able to charge all the way to 100% without a drop in Speed. That is of course if Storedot's technology does what they expect. In fact it charges faster as it goes rather than slower. Excited to see what happened in a year or so.

    If the video clips are at precise timing, when they said they hit 80% they had charged 58.6 kWh. If they started at 10%, they charged a total of 70% of the battery's capacity. So the total usable capacity of the P5 battery pack should be around 83-84kWh.
