The one at 4:05 is just amazing, the raw emotion you can feel coming from the characters and yes the audio is from something else but the way this student animated them with such pain in their expressions and movements, you don’t know what these characters are going through but with such great animation skills your mind ends up feeling for them and tries to fill in the gaps of what’s really going on

The expressiveness from the old man in comparison to the 'actor' ties the whole scene together.
Also there's something about an old man so spry he can easily kick your ass that is both hilarious and terrifying.

Ivan Otdelnov's animation about the "offer" has got to be one of the most emotional things I've seen in a while.
Just notice in the beginning the contrast between excitement (the girl) and passive disapproval (the boy) the way the guy politely but fully unveil his emotions and love for the girl like "I love you so deeply and would like to stay with you, but it's your life and you know what's best" this big gamut of emotions is extremely difficult to express in animation but he nailed it! Wow just brilliant!

Firza Insanudzaky Take the time you have to practice traditional skills, in both drawing and basic animation
It may be hard, but nothing good comes from anything that is easy. Know that you CAN do it. You've just got to start, and keep going. Even when it's difficult. The only way to get through it and to improve yourself is to keep practicing.
Be open and considerate of things. Think about why things are doing the things they're doing and what you would have to do to make them better. Research. Study. Look at things. Notice things. Ask questions about those things you notice. If you think you have an answer, think some more, and test and experiment with it.
When you feel overwhelmed, just take a step back. If you must close your eyes (or simply rest your brain) and then re-examine the bigger picture, then do that. Don't push yourself too hard or you might just fall. Always look for inspiration. Look at the work of people who have done better than you at what you want to do. Notice things about those pieces of work, too. Let them inspire you.
Set fairly specific goals, and then see how exactly you might be able to achieve them. Do what is best. If you don't know what you want, then look everywhere for inspiration. Look for something that makes you feel something or makes you go, "Wow! That's amazing!," or, "How did they do that!?"
Watch videos on art, go to Instagram and look at artists' work. Go to an art museum.
Regarding animation, I would point you to a couple books:
"The Animator's Survival Kit," by Richard Williams (he does amazing work, in my opinion. Look at some of his animation on RUclips).
"The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation," by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston.
These are extremely valuable, I think, to those who wish to start in animation. There are more, but I think these are at the top.
Also, there's this little art book, called something like, "The Big Book of Drawing." I think it's by Lee Hammond. I think you should check it out. It's valuable.
Remember what I've said. It's very easy -- too easy -- to forget valuable (if you see it as valuable) advice, and information in general. That's why constant reminding -- whether that's taking notes or repeating some piece of advice in your head over and over again -- and practice (of skills) and application (of knowledge) are extremely important things to learning. It's why you are usually taught in school how to add, but also given lots of problems to practice with. It's like a muscle-- you've got to exercise it to keep it nice and strong.
PS: I would also urge you to check out Aaron Blaise, a former Disney animator and artist, on RUclips. He's awesome, and a very accessible resource on RUclips.
Take advantage of your resources. Think about what you have and how to get it. Stretch yourself and think in new ways.
This turned out to be longer than I intended, but I hope you get a lot out of whatever amount you read. Thank you!

what has improved between the years of animation showcase is that the sounds of all little details have been included. Think about the fact that when doing these animations, sound effects are not included. So think about how the artist had to make these sounds to go with the video. To get a really good appreciation for this art, watch any animation movie with the volume off and try and figure out how to make each any every little detailed noise. Wind blowing, the right foot stomping, and so on. Good job people!

How come in at least 3 videos, I see the same characters (boy and/or girl), made by different people :
    0:05 , 1:26 , 2:10 , 3:01
    ?

@@hiturana3290 Basically this but no rigging. Animation mentor only teaches animation in their main course and give you a set of different rigs to animate. Some people change up the models to make stuff more interesting though but its not required for the school

@Nia ... I believe what you see in these animation mentor reels are the final completed projects. There aren’t longer versions of any clips.
