How far was your airbnb to el tunco? And where is the best part or zone or city name of that coast to stay where its more lush with nature and has nicest beaches? Im going in Feb and wanna go the beach but dont know where is the nicest. Is El Tunco even worth bothering with ? Thanks
Great questions. El tunco has become very popular for surfers, backpackers, and party people, the nightlife is wild. There are tons of rocks, so is not great for swimming. It’s not a fancy beach. We wanted a peaceful, private beach, so we stayed at Costa del Sol, which is about 1hr 15min from El Tunco. Costa del Sol would be my recommendation. The area is not fancy either, but there are fancy Airbnbs. La libertad has great restaurants, so we drove there for sunset dinners. For big groups, Airbnbs are better. Many of them have a chef that cooks and cleans for a small fee. Totally worth it. For small groups ( 2-4 people ) I would recommend a hotel. I like a few in La Libertad: Hotel Los Farallones, Hotel Acantilados, NAWi Beach House is popular too.
I decided not to go to San Salvador because I was traveling with kids, so we only went to places with activities for kids. We visited Cerro Verde ( national park in front of a volcano ) Coatepeque Lake, and a few places near “El Boquerón” ( San Salvador’s Volcano )
English is only spoken on upscale touristy places, hotels, etc. learning basic Spanish interactions help a lot. locals are very welcoming though. Bitcoin is supposed to be accepted everywhere but it’s not quite there yet. You would see a sign wherever bitcoin is accepted.

Beautiful video! How did you like the Airbnb?
The Airbnb was great - plenty of room for big groups - the outdoor areas were the best - having private access to the beach was awesome

It’s best for big groups. We used their 5 bedrooms. It would cost a lot more on 5 hotel rooms.

Thank you for the recommendations. Is San Salvador worth visiting at all or just spending entire time by the coast?
I decided not to go to San Salvador because I was traveling with kids, so we only went to places with activities for kids. We visited Cerro Verde ( national park in front of a volcano ) Coatepeque Lake, and a few places near “El Boquerón” ( San Salvador’s Volcano )
There are a few historic buildings and a brand new library in downtown, I haven’t been there recently but it looks nice.
Look up “Picnic Steakhouse” and “Volcatenango” we went there and highly recommend
Info of the rbnb please, thank you
Of course!
