I made my water bottle holder to fit a 1l soda bottle. Took the sleeve from an old leather jacket, closed the bottom, and made the top a leather cone. Then decorated it to look like a garden gnome. I literally made it my drinking buddy.

@@fauxmarmorer9544 on the one I got from medieval collectibles the leather around the bottle seems good, but the strap is almost seemingly too thin. Makes me nervous that it’s going to snap. The plastic bottles they use crackle … LOUDLY … so if you even barely squeeze the bottle as you grab it to drink it definitely is an embarrassing experience. Also, the cork just loves to pop out and spill my drink all over my side as I move.
This video gives me good solutions. Glass or stronger plastic for the bottle, and a screw cap instead of a cork (I role-play fantasy so historically accurate is not a factor for me).

These are so cool! I needed a way to carry water that was still in-character for a fantasy Dragon Con costume, so I ended up cobbling together a "waterskin." I found a collapsible water "bottle" (more like a plastic pouch with a pop-top), then went to Goodwill and picked up a purse with a kind of blue-grey faux leather look and took that apart to make a cover for the water bottle. Cleaned up a wooden candle cup from the craft store with some cutting board wax to cover the pop-top, and had myself an in-character waterskin I could use at the con.

Congratulations, you reinvented cuir boullee aka “boiled leather”!
The first bottle is effectively locked in because of the bulge in the neck- if that leather properly hardened the bottle can’t fall out. If you feel the need for extra confidence just punch holes in the bottom of the leather and weave some leather lacing into a sort of net t hold the bottom of the bottle but it should work as is just fine.
The hold-down for the wine bottle is extra clever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. It’s a positive way to secure the bottle while carrying it that still makes it super easy to replace. Could that work as a “peace strap” for a sword?

These are truly cool! Carrying water at a LARP is always a challenge. Maybe add some padding, like a strip of fabric, under the rivets so they don't damage the glass. I'm a little worried the bottle might shatter or break because of the metal pressing, rubbing and clicking against it.

Suggestion for the bottom of the green one! Punch a bunch of really small holes along the bottom, and tie some 2 or 3mm thick leather cord through them to make a sort of spiderweb net on the bottom. So...I'm not the only one who gets a Brilliant Idea at an hour most sane people are sleeping, and just have to do it right exactly NOW? Good to know. Years ago I took scraps of different types and colors of leather and glued them to a plastic water bottle with E6000. Even covered the cap. Ended up with a really cool patchwork bottle; I fill it and freeze it the night before, and always have cold water at the ren fair (or at work). I even rigged up a simple "holster" for it. However these two designs give me ideas for disguising larger bottles, like the stainless steel sports bottles. Hmm...

I've used it to attach pens to a strap for my notebooks, its at the top and bottom of the grip section on my LARP bow, its how I've attached feathers claws and fangs to the top of my Druids staff....

For the bottle that has it the leather all around it, what about instead of doing a full leather bottom, you could thread a needle and do a very simple cross design on the bottom so it has no chance of slipping out. That would also make it so you can still see inside the bottle to see if you ever need to wash it out or how much water you have left within it and keeps the bottle from falling out by accident.

Slick! Nowhere NEAR first today - I was playing Fallout 4 when it dropped. 😂
Quick initial thought on a bottom for the first bottle, based on a scroll-case I bought at a renfaire 2 years ago ... cut a thin wooden disk out the same diameter as the bottle. ('D personally add a padded layer between wood and glass) Then trace & cut your wet-form plywood pieces, so as to include the wooden base. Form as shown. When finished, use furniture tacks that match your rivets to fasten the leather to the wood base.

As an idea for a future video, what if you did a fusion of your two designs? I was thinking something like a clam shell design (like v.1) with snap closures instead of rivets, and a leather thong at the bottom (like v.2) to prevent accidentally dropping precious cargo.
A little strap around the neck or middle of the bottle could add extra security and pizazz, while making it easy to swap out bottles.
I also thought that a wooden version could serve as a woodsmithing video idea. Imagine a beer stein large enough to encase a bottle, with a removable dome cover? Think, like a heavy duty version of plastic dome covers on drinks with whipped toppings. It could be bifurcated and hinged to slot into a lip along the edge of the beer stein

A fair number of sites will NOT allow any glass at all (land owner also runs livestock when its not rented out for events). I found 32oz/1 liter plastic Maple Syrup bottles to be a good substitute - they look like a pottery moonshine jug once you get the label off. Just find a better screw cap than the one it comes with (they used to be brown but are now bright green at Costco). Or cut off the threaded section & smooth out the inside of the cut edge (hot air gun or similar) and make a cork or wooden plug for it. Just make a leather sleeve like the second example, you may even use the neck ring to hold the carry strap rather than attaching it to the sleeve.

You could have used grommets around the bottle and woven strings or straps all around it for extra effect. Plus, it would have been easier to weave the bottom in such a way that you could switch out the bottle with ease. Oh, one last thing... If that is going out into the field with you, and is going to see some action, I would switch the bottle out for a metal container just for safety. Trust me... landing on a bottle and it shattering suuuuucks!!!
