love your videos, I am a family man so $ is committed to the kids, but need to upgrade Canon 5D mark II. Would like to shoot video, raw, old cheap manual lens, image stabilization, or post stabilization through Davinci Resolve blackmagic
Sounds great. Old cheap manual lenses are great fun.. ...until you get into Leica...then even the really old manual lenses are expensive ...although even then the russian lenses are worth getting for cheap. I shot a canon 6D for years and had my eye on the 5D mark ii... Great camera
Great video.I have a number of pre Ai lenses to shoot with my two Nikon F's, all non converted, but I've only bought them for my F, but I can see you're point regards to looking out for Ai conversions to go with later cameras. I finally managed to find and buy a decent the 21mm UD, it took a while but glad I have it now. Keep up the good work!
Great stuff. Glad you managed to get a 20mm UD super lens....I'm still after the older pre AI 85mm f1.8 Nikkor lens ...but naturally I'm trying to find one AI converted so I can use it on every Nikon from the F to F3 and beyond
@@dangerpowers123 Thank you. I do have some cheap Fuji / M42 speedbooster, but when I use fast (f1,4) on it wide open, the picture becomes unusable, so I'm on a hunt for a new speedbooster. Thank you agin.
I'm using m39, m42, Pentax, Nikon adapters. What a blast Good vid. Oh yeah my old Argus c3 35,50 & 135's. Keep up the good work. Old Canon m39's are some of my faves & super Takumar as well. Thanks.
The real bargains are the Nikon E-series lenses from the early 80's, virtual identical to AiS lenses, save for some plastic! But shop carefully, as the prices can be close to the AiS version. For example,I paid $ 70 for the 100mm E vs $90 for the 105mm f/2.5 AiS! Also,if you use the Takumar SMC 50mm f/1.4 or the SMC 85mm, you must use an adapter WITHOUT the flange as this will lockup the aperture ring & focus!!
My advice to people is usually to look for the Nikon EM for sale on eBay ....as it usually comes with a few e series lenses .. I've got mostly the e series prime and zoom lenses they made ...doing this.
Thank you, ..excited as I've just picked up for a bargain price a 55mm f1.2 pre AI (but converted) lens...all metal version. Hmmm it may well replace my 50mm f1.4 as the lens I used the most
I remember watching some of the angry photographer's videos years ago, as well. Your comparison description was spot on hahaha. Like you mentioned with the 50 1.4, I also think the 43-86 has a soul or character to it.. that zoom is such a crap lens by technical standards. Loads of distortion, not very sharp, but I love shooting with it just because of that.
Ill check I think I own that zoom too. I could easily tell you all my prime lenses but the zooms I'm a bit blurry on as I've got quite a few AIS ones now and don't use them as much as they deserve. Certainly we all own modern glass thats sharp and reliable ..but I do love ok lenses when imperfection is more fun and arty
I wonder, as you are a wealth of knowledge; do you know of any vintage lenses that will maintain a wide wide field of view (17mm or lower?) on Fuji mirrorless?
The problem is the crop factor of using a full frame lens on a Fuji crop sensor body. A 17mm lens ...then becomes 25.5mm Due to the 1.5 crop factor. I should a 20mm lens and use a focal reducer which keeps it at 20mm. The zhongyi lens turbo ii. Otherwise I think samyang make a very wide Fuji mount lens
Have this and love it for artistic work, though for everyday pictures I really prefer the sharpness wide open of the Nikkor-H.C 50mm f/2. Both have amazing bokeh character. Interestingly the H.C renders a warmer color tone than the S, probably because of the integrated coating.
I found one today, on eBay. Not sure if the link will work...looks good rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F223369245884
I remove the metering prongs on these lenses. I use a speed-booster on my APS-C camera for a wider view and sharper image. With the A7ii, I use these lenses with the TechART adapter, so I get autofocus using these vintage lenses. I like manual focus, but you can't beat the AF speed.
@@williar1961 , good idea ok...I think I'll do one on the main differences off the Nikon cameras first...as a sort of buying guide. What's the benefit of an F2 over an F3 and vise versa .

Did you get that lens AI converted, or did it come that way? I did not think any of the silver-nose Nikkor lenses were AI compatible.
Yerr it came converted 👍🏻
Hi, just a quick question... what's your experience with the Zyongy Lens Turbo speedbooster for Fujifilm, IQ wise?
I'm really impressed with it, and use it almost constantly on my fujifilm XT1 with Nikon lenses.
iQ is great. I highly recommend it

That's a great collection of lenses. I especially like the super takumar primes

Thanks for this video!!! There are very few videos out there explaining the difference between AI and Non-Ai. You've done a wonderful job!!
Thank you , I'm happy it helped 😀
Great video! Yes the F3 has the tab that moves back for the non AI lenses.
Thank you
what's the significance of the "UD" on the 20mm
different ens configuration than other non ai 20s ???
? L
UD stands for the optical element count: U for Uni (1), and D for deci (10). 1 + 10 = 11, as this lens has 11 elements.

Yes I think that's exactly right about the coating and the warmer tone. Each 50mm is a little different, it's nice to experiment with them.
Nice one. I like the same type of lenses - build quality and excellent haptics as a priority.
I think you just convince me to get that 50mm for my xt1 sir

Try asking the 'Angry Photographer' for a link to some examples of his photography ?
Ha ha
You mentioned the DF - also on my list as per instagram message.
Really enjoyed this 👍
Yerr I'd love a DF... One day
I'm sorry but that 35-70 is the worst lens ever made, get the 2.8 version
Yes that lens was only in the video as a distraction ...from the nice lenses.
