Gwynn is brilliant! Her statement on camping is spot on!!
Everytime Gwen is around I smile throughout the video. Ya'll just so wonderful together it's inspiring. Stay safe 🙏🏾
Andrew I love your videos but gwens input is fantastic.. love her sanity to your obscurity. 😁
They are very cute together and make for a dynamic and entertaining pair. I am watching these videos again with my wife and she is also enjoying them.
Spend the extra $10 and support your country. Music to my ears. Thank you for another excellent episode.
Totally agree. Buy the original Australian product and keep the $ in our country. Don’t buy cheap copies.
Copies aren't even that cheap. So travel buddy it is.
Love my Travel Buddy. THE Original Aussie made.
Gwen is going to take the channel to a new level and You got to love that !
Who would take an old woman camping, dithering over every little bit of equipment, theorizing every possibility.... oh I feel for you Gwynn, leave Andrew at home to knit.. ps, sounds like me & wife, but less arguments.
We have a 24V house battery system (110 FFR Perentie, setup for overland travel) and use a military boiling unit / food warmer ( RAK15-4) We have also have a travel buddy and a 240V system ( inverter cooktop and elec kettle and toaster). We did not use the 240V system at all on a 2 week stint to cape york last year. Rather we use the native 24 V equipment for all cooking and water boiling. The 240 V system has more power and is quicker than the native 24V cooking appliances and does everything except toast.
--- We no longer carry gas or petrol stove.
The electric milk heater/whisk for the perfect home cappuccino is definitely evidence of a lavish camping lifestyle. But necessary going soft..... Just lavish!
Somerville Metal works make two size trays for the Travel Buddy. One is full size and the others are half size, so you can fit 2x small units. Stainless Steel and Aussie made by Rory Somerville...check Facebook
Beat me to it. +1 for Somerville Metal Works.
Rory has made a lot of extras for travel buddy I have both trays work a treat
I love Gwen's outlook on camping, keep it quick and simple so everything else out there can be enjoyed 😁
Andrew, you’ve gone soft, lucky you have a lovely tough woman to sort you out!!!😆... great work guys, my favourite videos are those featuring Gwyn, the banter between you two is awesome your love and mutual respect for one another really shows.. congratulations on the new rig hope you guys have some awesome trips together..
5:50 I AGREEEEEE!!!!! Gwen is very charming. This videos are wonderful you both together.
Congrats on the new rig! What a beast. I love watching how much you two love each other (you and Gwynn, not you and the Land Cruiser); it is clear every time you look at her.
I’M NORMAL!!! I’m not the only person to interrupt my wife to tell her that she’s short.
"Happy Wife...........Broke?" I used to have an unhappy wife and I ended up broke.......
But you're richer for the experience and vacancy.
@@tommynikon2283 Stronger and wiser. 🥴
Then I guess the real saying is: “wife = broke.”
Yes, you are going soft! (OR.. old(er)) . But.. you are 20 years older than me.. Keep it up for another 5 years, and I'll join you on a trip, Pretty sure we could have an interesting evening! I'll cook something on the woodstove in my "car" ( old MB army G ambulance), have a talk about my Leica M, and so on. :) Understand what I'm talking about? I think we might agree on a lot of things by sunrise.. :)
I don’t think you have gone soft, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of Glamping and enjoying some mod cons on your trips.
Kaon 4x4 make trays for your oven if you aren’t aware.Safe travels
"Gone soft"... or just got good at it, depends how you look at it. Camping doesn't have to mean going with out or being uncomfortable.
I would disagree.
Camping does mean, to a certain degree, getting away from it. Away from T.V . Away from Traffic. Away from modern conveniences that makes us lazy. Its about been brave enough to live without those thing .
@@TheNewcastleKnight yeah i get what your saying.. and thats cool if thats your style of camping, i too like to get away from it all, but i love a good coffee in the morning, and i love cold beer out of my engel.. so thats what i take camping.
@@kalza9685 touché
I like the Attenborough-esque narration over the video.
@@TheNewcastleKnight take note they are not getting younger.🤫
Andrew, you can't imagine how delighted we are at your fresh video, especially involving both of you, lucky you, such a sweet nd lovely lady you have, pay my regards, from a far if place, 🇵🇰, to that blessed soul ..
I love that you take your work seriously but don’t let that turn the camping and driving into a job! I have managed to convince my colleague we need campers to help veterans treated for PTSD to fall back in love with the country they risked there life for. Your insights will allow us to ensure they get the most out of them in the future.
Love you fro Zimbabwe 🌍, Qwyn must stick around forever .
I am surprised how clean inside of the truck is considering you travel alot.
How do you manage to keep it so clean?
Awesome video. The attention to detail and thought you put into packing is inspirational. You always make me think and evolve our setup.
great interaction and discussion of the setup guys . Enjoyed the banter and the laughs. bring on the big trip cheers
Great vid Andrew and Gwynn.....Gwynn you are an absolute delight....
Mr White,
This is your most enjoyable video, by Far. Gr8 to see the Mrs, and love the way she handles you. Tell her she has a fan from Lahore, Pakistan :)
6;20...... lmao... she’s taking the show. Hee hee , and that look, priceless! Love y’all
Well, Andrew , I see there is only one `Boss` , in your family too :-)
Take care both , and happy camping :-) Hi ,from Norway
I'm noticing a large south African community in wa, we go to Perth twice a year as we have a holiday home there and never noticed it in person.
Really? Ive lived here for 25+ years, and you can notice them everywhere. I suppose your used to the accents and you dont notice it. But we have a huge community.
The set up has the approval of your wonderful wife , now you are ready to go traveling around this wide brown land . I can’t wait for the next video 😀.
Gwynn absolutely nailed it with regard to "going soft".
Is there really *anybody* who would deliberately forego any level of comfort/convenience that they *could* have?
When I'm out and about it's to visit landmarks, explore trails, meet people and wander around in the woods.
The "camping" is just what I do after I've finished doing what I want to do.
If I could, I'd have a fully-fitted caravan flown in by helicopter every afternoon and dropped next to wherever I park my vehicle.
Regarding tables, I always aim for 90cm - the standard height of a kitchen worktop.
The "tea making" table on my Disco door is at 90cm.
The tops of the draws inside it are 90cm so I can also use them as worktops too.
Doesn't matter if I'm cooking, using my laptop or trying to fix bits of broken Land Rover. 90cm is always the right height.
We do have a small camp-table, at sitting height, but that mostly gets used as somewhere to dump condiments, snacks or a bottle of plonk.
I sleep on the dirt with nothing but a wool blanket. Y'all are soft.
I'm just kidding. I'm on a budget planning as much comfort and convenience into whatever vehicle I can afford. Being in NA my only real choice for solid axles is a Jeep.
I have that same sweatshirt. Love it Gwynn!
I can see why you married Gwen She hand gestures as much as you do !
Definition of going soft for me is, are you taking anything for comfort or luxury that hinders/restricts your off road ability. Eg weight/size. If you can improve your comfort with an item that does not affect your vehicles performance negatively, then its not going soft its a good idea.
Everything about this made me smile, good work! That doesn't happen very often
Sometimes going soft is OK! It's all about what makes you happy, right? I do think you and your lovely wife have a lot of extra time to "talk", lol!
I LOVE it.... Hope you not taking offence Andrew. Gwynn is full of energy and adding that OEMF you needed :) I she going to accompany you on all future trips? Love her on the show :)
Thanks for a great video
I'd be very interested in seeing the weight of the truck fully loaded bc it seems like you have so much stuff onboard like 5 Gasbottles, two stoves, 3 Solar Panels etc. That must add up a whole lot of weight.
Looking forward to the next trip...keep up the good work!
He's gone soft and heavy sadly. Too much gear between him and wilderness. But most of us justify our creature comforts until our needs change. Even the guy with a Prevost can believe that he's roughing it.
Haven't gone soft andrew!! Bloody can not put in to words how much I love my pod coffee machine with milk frothed.
Interesting video, fantastic stuff for camping and two very happy people, Enjoy
Gwynn is hilarious.
Andrew, don't you need an awning?
9:00 You know that table has an adjustable height right?
It does. Low and very low
@@4xoverland I have a similar one from that brand, but it can raise up to a "stand up workbench" height.
@@4xoverland The Lifetime Blow Mould Folding Table 121cm has three height levels 61, 74 and 91cm
You're not becoming soft. This camper is built for hard people. You have to lift boxes out, pull things out, carry things around to get to other things, stand outside in the sun to cook etc...
O8:45...the reason people typically eat from a plate, in their chairs is.....because the f'ing table is TOO LOW! Even at my desk- in my condo, right now....I put books underneath my plate to raise it up. I'm just reducing the "drop zone".
Greetings from South Africa
The Bluetooth problem may be difficult to solve if it's a signal strength issue. The several metal sheets between the Travel Buddy and your phones are severely attenuating the signal, especially when the doors are closed. If there's a separate Bluetooth antenna in Travel Buddy, perhaps you could relocate it outside the camper.
When you find yourself doing what I term 'explosion camping' where you arrive & everything under the sun seemingly explodes out of your vehicle, you're in trouble. Even with a large set up, you seem to be avoiding it so well done 😀
As for the second seat inside the camper, please get the height correct, as while every surface can be used as a seat, they often aren't the most comfortable after a short time. No particular science to it, measure an actual seat height & use that, dining chairs are all roughly the same height for a reason so don't reinvent the wheel 👍
Would love to see how you set-up your block and tackle for the spare tyre when you have a chance please Andrew.
be careful it looks like your Wife is going to take over your channel.
Great to see your new camper working out so well for you and Gwen, look forward to seeing more from the both of you.
It maybe just me but I enjoy travelling with the Mrs and sharing the discovery of new parts of our great country.
"Gone soft mmm maby but why not you live only one's why not have all the goodies
job well done love it
Y'all are just too cute together... We'll have to have more Gwen going forward.
For the travel buddy have a look at a company called kaon. Aussie company that make a bunch of accessories for the travel buddy. Good gear.
Thank you I was looking for accessories for mine.
Such a joy to watch your videos. I'm never disappointed.
"Have I gone soft?" Absolutely not! Very hard core camping; how can you bear not making, an actual frothy cappuccino, first thing in the morning? =P
😱 I just said this to my partner recently!!
Fully agree with Gwen!!
I camp because of the locations I can go to. Camping for the sake of camping has NO! Appeal to me.
Somerville metal works make trays for the travel buddy!
And as for getting soft. Don't you think Livingston, Louis and Clark, Peary would trade in a second for all your "Luxuries " .... of course they would. The trip and the surroundings ARE the adventure!! There's no rule that says you have to live like a homeless person while enjoying the outdoors... Nuff said.... Just own it Andrew. Be proud you're smart enough to NOT rough it.
I think it was Ray Mears who said "if you're roughing it you're doing something wrong", our ancestors lived in the environment with very little & totally owned it.
Another great video Sir as always.
Leonora and a visit to the Gwalia Ghost Town is worth the drive.
Saw this and laughed!!! being married to a short lady who has a bung knee i can understand your issues!!! we bought our first trailer camper years ago and our first trip only lasted 5 days before we headed back to Kal where we lived and i spent the next 5 days redoing everything until she who must be obeyed was happy with the layout and it was set up for her height and as per her key themes 1 must be able to feed kids withing 15 mins of stopping, 2 must have good lighting and power etc as we traveled late some times so stopped at night, 3 toilet must be available for mother and daughter, 4 must be able to be set up quick in all weather and must have shower and good sized fridges!!! and when we got it right it was magic, some of our best memories are from dragging our camper and kid all over Oz. Great show Andrew and Gwen
Fantastic video, thanks to you both.
You two are the cutest couple. I have always adored your dry sense of humor Andrew, but Gwynnie....so puts the cherry on top. Oh and love your new LCC too.
Andrew, I gives me great joy to see how you've matured over the years. From the young gun-ho camper that you were roughing it out sleeping amounst the lions and hyeenas, to the fine teetotaler enjoying high tea in the outback that would make our Queen drool, you've certainly come a long way in your expeditions to realizing that as human beings, everyones needs are different and so their camping styles reflect this. Yes we have all gotton softer over the years, some more pudgy and charasmatic, and in our own way develope our unique camping/touring style. Do you think you'll ever need a rear seat in the vehilcle one day?; Because just when you think your job as a parent had been completed, you may one day have someone come along and call you Poppy............LOL
Andrew Gwynn is top notch value, I like her more than you.
We camp only to see Australia. Your partner grounds you.
I have the same coffee maker as you. If you tilt the cup tray straight up you can get larger cups under the spout. Cheers!!!!
Envy!! 🤣 Aweome stuff.
Gwynn should be a mainstay in the show, she is tougher than many overlanders I know
@4xoverland How good are Butcher Birds though!!!
@4xoverland Nice tribute to your friend from South Africa. Lost ones always on our minds. Good luck on your travels.
loves all your vedios, you are the best off-roader in the world.
please think of doing full movie and put it on youtube as a number 1 offroading reference
have fun bro💪🏻
Great show Andrew, you must look up drifta they do the best camp tables, fully adjustable legs from coffee table to prep bench, Aust made they have the best gear.
my wife is also a lot like her!! But i guess were getting a bit soft, i removed my roof top tent and bought a new caravan. the a/c and heat plus indoor bathroom and shower just made me cave in! LOL ... But i still have the roof top tent just encase i want to rough it a bit.
Love the video mate! Your wife is brilliant! Check out Somerville metalworks, they have a range of trays for inside the travel buddy just recently bought some myself
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I really enjoy organising our trips with my wife, and whilst at not quite the same level as you two, it's a pleasure to go through the process with her. I'm 60 and now 'soft' as I've done my time on the ground- my back, hips, and shoulders say 'enough'. I look forward to watching more of your videos together, as do I with travelling with my best mate.
Not gone soft , anyone can be uncomfortable ;)
I'm glad you got your Submariner back in time for the big trip. I'm one of those watch enthusiast on a few Facebook watch forum's like "Drinking coffee and talking watches" or Hamilton Watch Owners" or "Horology Talk" or "The Mainspring society" we can't help watch spotting. Cheers from Miami
FYI, the older MB GL series has the same offroad traction package as the G wagon (it went beyond the 4matic with locking front and rear hubs and the ability to raise 3.1" like the Range Rovers of that time period) and older ones are not high mileage because most were garage queens. Don't believe me look it up. Now that I have said that there won't be any old cheap ones out there. LOL!
Awesome.... And All who sail in her. 👍
That same table comes with different legs, which have an additional "click" adjustment point which is standing prep height. That one as is should click down to fire cooking/coffee table height.
Yes, true.
Very well done.
hit him Gwynn
absolutely adore the chemistry between you both. I am really curious how the camper will do on rough corrugations and how the fuel consumption will be (not that extreme I guess due to the tent being flat while driving).
On the part of getting soft: I think it is important to try out comfortable stuff like a water boiler or the coffee machine. Only by trying you will see if its worth it, or if you (for example) switch to a french press or whatever. I know that there are Offroaders and Overlanders prefering to hunt their boar with their hands, use torches as light and use their shoes only for slapping bears who want a bite of the boar, but this isnt honestly the century for this.
****** Kaon or Somerville Metal Works (SMW) on Ebay that makes SS trays to fit the TravelBuddy.
Thank goodness for Gwynn. She will have you ship shape and happy campers in no time. Literally LOLing at my iMac, thanks you two again. Packing science.
Lovely Andrew. Great to see Gwen. I am trying to get our ute and camper shipped from Brisbane to Auckland. Not so straightforward. Lovely to catch up again. . Mark has already found work. Been back in Auckland for 6 weeks now. Hard time adjusting back . Love Rolanda
I love how professional you are 99% of the time and then as soon as your wife starts talking about her master plan you just point out how short she is 😆😆
Actual storage space is limited, it'll just take some time figure out where to put things
You can get Gwynn's baking tray at Somerville Metalworks - they make half height and full height specially for the Travel Buddy.
Andrew, I couldn't quite tell from the video, but I saw you had D-shackles and stainless turnbuckles (?) holding your camper in place. You no doubt have fixed them from being able to come undone, but it was hard to tell. If you haven't, just a suggestion, but might be wise to put a small zip tie through all D-shackle pins and tie them off so they can't vibrate out. And we also only use stainless turn-buckles with double nuts so they can also be locked off. Otherwise the galvanised versions are less likely to vibrate undone as well.
Another great video Andrew, and great comments about removing the back seats, as I mentioned previously if it wasn't for the fact I need my back seats in the F-150 sometimes I would of removed them. That said there is a lot of influence in the recent rebirth of my F-150 from your build on this one. Although I haven't had chance to get it out camping yet due to the weather (and COVID) I have had it out in the dunes for photography and the setup from you influence works great.
I would love a two hours movie about you packing up the camper.
Gwen is a keeper, really adding something to the content. The only drawback for the setup is suburban car parking, surely that's a bastard... Loved the video, well done
You two clowns get on very well.....Good show.... Very funny... and your editing is VERY GOOD.
You don't want to clean the kettle otherwise it gets mixed up with the teapot! Tea made in a kettle tastes not great. And if you boil the teapot well it becomes the ......😀
You spent so much time telling us the camper was a blank canvas for you - I think this video shows it's actually a blank canvas for Gwynn.🤣
why i'm smiling "D ? i love you both ! the best channel right now ! Greetings from Egypt !
Wish I could move to Australia.
spot on about the table height!!, most things done standing!!
