A registered trademark, even if "weak" as you call it, is better protection than no trademark at all. According to your description my trademark is "weak" yet the USPTO has rejected trademark applications that are similar to mine and has informed me each time. So I disagree with your concept of "weak" and "strong." The USPTO will protect a trademark regardless.

@@queentiff9827 hey Tiff, I was typing a reply hours ago and got sidetracked. No I didn't have a lawyer and I didn't think I needed one and I'm very happy because it helped me understand the process. Yes, I made several mistakes along the way but I figured even with mistakes the entire process is way cheaper on my own. The USPTO is a great resource for anyone looking to patent and trademark something on their own. They have plenty of short videos explaining the process in chunks. I admit I had to watch the videos many times but I viewed the process as a final project for a college course. I highly recommend not to rush things.
I am not a lawyer nor attorney. Anything I write in this response is solely for entertainment purposes. If you need legal advice you can get a referral from your state's bar association.
Before starting the process there are a few things a person should have spent a reasonable amount of time figuring out: (I'll use me as an example.)
1) Establish the business. I applied for LLC (other options are available).
1a) first do business entity search to make sure someone else didn't already register the name. If it's registered it's not end of the world we have to adapt and be flexible. 9 other registered LLC's in search results for me so I just had to make sure it was different than the others. For example King Steph is taken, can the person accept King Stephan? That's why "time is of the essence" if a person has an idea the sooner it gets protected the less a person has to worry about someone else having or using it.
2) what is it a person wants to achieve by going through the trademark process?
--> I have been doing videography for years as a hobby. Then I started doing photography because it was less intensive work with much faster results. Eventually I became much more invested in the hobby spending large amounts of money on it in terms of equipment and classes. That's when it turned into serious hobby. I didn't have the confidence to turn the serious hobby into a business and I declined many job offers. Then eventually I got the confidence I can go pro and made a mental checklist of what I needed in place to do everything by the book and also protect my photography/videography name. While deciding the design of my name I had idea to also come up with a drawing as a logo just to give myself options. I drew the logo on a napkin and took a picture of it. I searched offline and online for reasonably priced graphic designers. I already made the design I just needed someone to draw it in Adobe Photoshop that's it. So I got my logo finalized (or at the time I thought I did) after getting scammed by two graphic designers (people I knew and know). I reached out to some random guy online got it done. That was really long but just to show there will be many unexpected bumps along the way but we learn and become better. In summary, I wanted to protect the name I type on my pictures and videos and also the option to use a logo. I can "save money" and do one application with both the text and drawing together but then I lose: options, creativity, separate/together, mix and match. So an extra $225 worth me having all that additional creative freedom.
This is very long. I'll stop here. If you or anyone else is interested I'll continue in chunks like this big block. Consider this chapter 1. I hope this has been very entertaining.

I'm looking to start my t-shirt business and was confused as to when to trademark my company name and logo. Will do both since the logo is in and or apart of my company name. When to start putting the name out there (on social media) When to create the website, etc. 6-8 months is a very good amount of time to get everything in order before I/we launch whatever goods and services we are offering to the public. The government will see the amount of time and progression our company has been relevant and grant us the trademark. Thanks again. Continued success to you.

How to apply for a trademark as a foreigner (not US resident)? What are the most reliable attorney at law companies for trademarks?
I understand that a trademark shows a specific supplier of goods or services, for example "Nike." When "Nike" makes shirts that say "Just do it" what is that phrase to the business? Just do it is not the name of the business, it is just a phrase. How do I protect my phrase and what would be a good specimen? I have submitted a picture of the shirt with the phrase and also a tag with the phrase on it but USPTO has told me neither are acceptable.

I actually consulted an attorney and they wanted $1500 just to do the search so I’m nervous about doing the trademark wrong but honestly can’t afford all those upfront fees. I appreciate your advice so much! When you say to start using our trademark so it’s used in commerce, should we build our website and register our company name with the state assuming the trademark will go through? I’m sorry if that sounds elementary I’m just in the baby stages of starting my company and I don’t know all the right moves to make 🙏🏻
