Is Harold still living? Can you put me in contact with him? I would like to know when Penney sold this farm and who owned it around 1963-1972.
Update: I knocked on Harold's door today and got clarification for my family records. Harold bought the Penney farm from my grandparents, Fred and Pauline Werner, who bought it from Mr. Penney.

Harold Henry helped me research and write an agricultural biography of J. C. Penney that was positively reviewed in the Wall Street Journal as well as Successful Farming.

Awesome story. I grew up 4-H in Central Kansas and always made sure I looked at their show string at the American Royal every year in the 50's and 60's. If I remember right their colors were Yellow and Black. I spent the 70's at Victoria, Kansas where the Angus first stepped foot on American soil.

I'm 2 years late to your question, but I wrote a book about J. C. Penney with an entire chapter devoted to Penney's Hopewell Junction farm. The book lays out the history as thoroughly as I could, but you can contact me at the University of Wyoming if you have further questions about the farm or its award-winning Guernsey cattle.
