    You gotta commend Tom Hovasse. Led the women's team to the silver medal in the summer Olympics, then went on to resurrect their men's team.

      It's a great recipe for success. Although Hachimura is absent, this is the best squad that Japan has put together, with talented and confident players like Baba, Watanabe, Togashi, Hiejima, Hawkinson or Kawamura, and everyone is believing in their coach and system. I hope they will do well in the Olympics and upset strong teams 🏀

    Hope they do good in Paris Olympics 2024 specially if they include Rui Hachimura i the line-up. Coach Tom Hovasse did amazing coaching to the Men Senior's Team as he did with the Women's Senior Team.

      That’s a harder task but we will see. I thought Coach Hovasse did an amazing job. Players followed their team’s identity, played with passion & they had smart set plays. What more can you ask

    What a Rukawa like story by Watanabe. A Mitsui like shooting by Tominaga.A Ryota like ball handling by Kawamura and Togashi. A Akagi like rebounding ability by Hawkinson. I wish Sakuragi(Rui Hachimura)play in Olympics they'll be deadly for sure😅

      Inoue Takehiko, the author of slam dunk was very much present in Okinawa to support the team. Yudai baba even posted a photo with him after they successfully punched a ticket to the olympics. A pretty emotional time for their team for sure. And we love to see it!

    Hovasse tinkered with the starting lineups and found the right combination, with Kawamura and Hawkinson as the catalysts. Watanabe, Heijima and Tominaga all took their turns with huge games at the right times. This team is fun to watch.

      They did in Women's football world fiba cup in 2011 Japan beat the heavily favored U.S to win the World cup the first Asian nation to do so.

    Very good analysis of how Japan played. They are unpredictable, fast and constany moving. This Japan team is perhaps the team that has most heart and spirit to win games in the FIBA 2023. 👏👏👏

    I miss our Philippine team in 2014, where our guys are like this Japanese team- okay talent but full speed and all heart. Ironically, the country who has the battle cry "PUSO(heart)", lost some heart and mind through the years. Japan deserved to be the top team in Asia. They may not be the tallest, nor the most talented but they have the best discipline among Asian countries, which made them adapt with the fastest rate. Congratulations Japan!

    Speed coupled with the streak shooting of 3s is a loaded weapon.
    Very soon, Japan vs. the Philippines (Head-to-Head 74% vs. 83%, since 2009). Exciting matchup!
    Historically, the Philippines is winning better versus Japan. But, let us wait and see.

    1:05 Im already impressed AF, they hustle so much!!! But they have to, they're at disadvantage, like fist fighting a chimp or bear. What's interesting is that japan is REEEEALLY strong at volleyball and it's at the top for a long so their lack of influence on basketball might be more of a lack of culture (vball is much less physical, i know, but i feel the fact you cant bother your opponent when they block or spike make it worse than bball in a way, you can just watch and count on timing)

    It was sort of ignored that Tavares was Euroleague Final 4 MVP and all-Euroleague first team and then loses to Japan. If the NBA and Euroleague are close to equal that is the equivalent of Jokic playing. Funny how that hardly got any press or discussion

      When it comes to Baseball, Japan is number one in the world rankings, has won every international tournament, and has won the WBC three times, so it's no surprise that they beat the USA to win the championship.

      @@Hiryu23 Last time Japan won a WBC, Ichiro was still playing. They had not won in a decade. Japan were the underdogs, with only one MLB bat and two MLB pitchers, almost entirely an NPB team with most Major Leaguers not playing. Money would have been on a US team featuring Trout, Turner, Mookie, Goldschmidt et al. They did have arguably the best Baseball player of all time in Ohtani, but one player doesn't win Baseball games most of the time (Look at LAA).

      @@TheTruth-xp2of Japan won the 2019 Premier12 and the Tokyo Olympics, and although they did not win the WBC in 2013 and 2017, they came in 3rd place. Only Japan holds all the WBC, Premier12 and Olympic titles.
      Japan is the only country to have achieved 3rd place or higher in all WBC tournaments.

Throughout the game, it became increasingly evident that the referees were consistently making calls against Cape Verde. The frequency and apparent bias of these decisions were even alarming. Fair play and sportsmanship should always be at the forefront in any competition, and it's essential for the integrity of the game that officials maintain impartiality. Fair and unbiased officiating is essential to ensure that the game is played on a level playing field, regardless of the teams involved.
