The washer on the coupler nut is directional, one side is suposed to be out. The manual calls for loctite and the nut gets staked. If using a torque wrench instead of impact driver the wheel can be strapped to the hub (with the axle to stabilize it) to keep it from rotating.
You should not tighten the 4 drive bolts until you have the wheel installed with axle. This centres the drive to the axle and eliminates any potential binding in the drive.
Thanks for making this video. It helped out a lot. I recently did the output seal only to find a bit of lube on the driveshaft tube, so today I did the input seal. Hopefully I'm good for another 50,000 miles.
hey great video! im about to attempt this repair once my seals come in. my only suggestion would be including your tool list and the parts and part numbers required under the description. I personally like have visual list that i can reference quickly when preparing for a job. but thanks for your work!
At the time this was the very first video I ever edited. I would have done things a bit different. Writing a list at the beginning would have been the first.
Thank you for the doing the video. I may be doing this to mine soon and it's a great help. One question though. You mention torquing the coupler gear to book specs but you don't say what that torque is. I don't have a shop manual and would love to know the torque spec. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@@theprettyboyr12002 Thanks for that Robert, big help. I may have to look for the seal at NAPA too. I ordered a seal through Yamaha but I'm not sure when it will get here and I have a trip starting in 5 days. You said the outer dimension of the seal was 65mm and the ID was 50mm? It was a little hard to hear the second measurement and that would make the seal 15mm wide?

Nicely done. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. This will be very helpful when it comes time to do mine.

I did overlook that. The book calls for 108 ft-lb

Well done, very informative. Are You defending Your bikes with the gun on Your workbench ? :-D Regards from Austria!
🤣 never know when the MAN will come to take my aftermarket exhausts and altered ECU's. Plus wild pigs 😉
How do you keep the coupling from spinning on reassembly
During the torque down step, I remember, I did this and didn’t record it. I put a C-clamp on the coupling and a rag around a stud.
@@theprettyboyr12002 thank you
