One of my 4th graders lost his mom last week. I was able to contribute to his family’s GoFundMe without even thinking about it. That felt really good. Having an “unexpected expenses” category has saved me over and over again. You are so right that there is no such thing as a normal month.

I have separate categories for each holiday we celebrate. If we had all the money in one category, it would be emptied at the first holiday, and wouldn't recover by the time the next holiday came along. Love the idea of the car repair category also being for car replace, genius!

Health is a category that has helped me big time this year. I put money into it each month and the quite big chunk of money made it easy to go and see a psychotherapist without worrying about the money. So freeing and it's helping my anxiety and mental health too!
I love the idea of splitting Christmas gifting from other holidays. I always run into that issue where I have a lot in my 'holiday' category from the year, but then spend it all in Sept. on my husband's birthday.
I absolutely needed these in my life right now!

Been a very interesting roller coaster ride 🎢, but I got to payoff debt more then once and travelled the world including a 15 year dream to Zanzibar.

Pet category is one of our highest (~$500) with 2 middle age and 1 elderly dog. The younger 2 have pet insurance (>$100), monthly allergy shots for one (>$60), the older has bad back legs so lots of expensive meds (>$170), flea/heart worm meds for all, quality pet food, treats and toys.

SM D Are you having trouble, like I am? I’ve watched so many videos and I still can’t figure out why my actual balance isn’t the same as the app. I linked it to my PNC account. There was a pop-up that said it might not connect. It did, but the amount was not accurate. I want to start from scratch. I did that, and it’s still pulling the wrong balance. I wanted it to go back to zero. Argh! 😩🤪😂 Help!

I'm definitely a fan of the "Other Holidays" category! I call mine "General Gifts" (in addition to "Birthday Gifts" and "Christmas Gifts"), but it's essentially for the same thing. Such a relief when a friend's birthday or wedding comes up and I know I have money saved in that category to put toward a gift.

I have Medical and Car Maintenance covered. I think Cushion = my Vacation category. That's the first place I pull from when if I'm short. No pets right now. And I guess for Holidays we have a Gifts category.

Don't forget to add an Insurance deductible/excess fund, if you have to make a claim it could cost $500+, which could really derail your budget if you weren't prepared.
