    Whenever I get a new grill I always wash all the parts with hot soapy water and give them a good rinse and I wipe down the grill interior with a damp rag. Then I burn-in the grill at 400 degrees to get rid of any oil, paint, chemicals, contaminants, styrofoam and plastic bits, etc. that might be present from shipping. Then I give the racks a light coating of canola oil cooking spray (not PAM, which has other stuff in it) but just bulk chef use canola spray (like Costco/Sams sell) and then I do a second burn in at 400...the canola will coat all the racks in a golden (honey-colored) seasoning that will help prevent sticking. I do the same with Grill Grates (searing kit). That method will make the grill seem like a nicely seasoned and used grill in just 3-4 hours of work. I just finished that process and now my new 2500-BFG is cooking some chicken quarters right now as I type this (seasoned with a light coating of olive oil and Ironworks BBQ rub from Austin, Texas!)! I'm so excited!

    Recteq, just curious about why you went with the smoke stack on the 700 versus the vents on the 340 and 590? Was it just a visual design choice to make it look more traditional or did the stack perform better on that size model? Love all three grills by the way, just looking for some more insight before I make a choice between the 590 and 700.

    First time user of a smoker, just got my RT340 to stick my toe into the way of cooking. I followed this video to season the smoker. All went well, but one question: should I see smoke coming out of the unit at all times? I checked and the pellets were feeding and burning, but little smoke came out as time went by.

    • @recteq
      @recteq  4 года назад +1

      The REC TEC produces a clear, light blue smoke! You do not want to see billowing white smoke coming from your grill. That means your fire is starving for oxygen. You will see more smoke at lower temperatures than you will at higher temperatures. To reach the higher temperatures, the fire must burn very efficiently thus producing the thin blue smoke. The grill is burning wood 100% of the time so therefore smoke is being produced & is flavoring your food 100% of the time. Feel free to give us a call at 706-922-0890 if you have any other questions! 🤘🔥

I'm a noob at this and have watched dozens of videos making my head spin like Linda Blair from The Exorcist :) I was thinking of grilling something "easy" with fat to season the grill. That's awesome, welcome to the REC TEC family! Don't be overwhelmed, we have lots of helpful content here on RUclips to help you get the hang of pellet grilling! When it comes to seasoning the grill, the main thing you should focus on is fat content. You definitely want something fatty to season your grates. Chicken thighs, pork butt, & bacon are some of the things we usually suggest! Follow Chef Greg's recipe above for chicken thighs & you'll be ready to grill/smoke anything in no time. Hey rickper, welcome to the REC TEC Family! 🤘 Yes, it is fine to clean the grill the next day. There is no dump. So you can either burn out what you use or if you really need to replace pellets, shop vac them out.
      As for ash cleanup:
      Take out inside grates, etc to expose bottom and simply vacuum the dust. Pretty straight forward.

    • @recteq
      @recteq  4 года назад

      The RT-700 is our flagship model! It has an industry leading 6-year warranty, so you're covered bumper-to-bumper. Our other models all have the same build quality & internal components. As for the hopper clean out, a trap door can allow for unnecessary moisture to reach your pellets & cause an auger jam. We chose to leave this feature out so the hopper is completely water-proof & you can easily vacuum them out with a shop vac! Our mesh cooking mats make transporting food on and off the grill much easier! Their main purpose is to keep smaller foods from falling through the grates (shrimp, vegetables, bacon, etc.). It just made cooking these chicken thighs even easier! They are also dishwasher safe. Check them out here 👉 www.rectecgrills.com/Mesh-Cooking-Mat

    I am sitting outside right now doing my initial burn in. The temperature is set to 400 once it reached 400 I started my 1-hour timer. I have seen temperature swings go up to 430? Is that normal on the initial burn in? I purchase this RT 700 model specifically because of the consistent temperature that everyone raves about but I'm a little concerned.... just curious if anyone knows if this is normal

    • @recteq
      @recteq  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely normal! Our grills produce clear, light blue smoke. You do not want to see white billowing smoke coming from your REC TEC! This means that your fire is starving for oxygen & can produce a bitter taste in your food. To reach the higher temperatures, the fire must burn very efficiently. Therefore, you will see more smoke at lower temperatures than you will at higher temperatures. The grill is burning wood 100% of the time so smoke will being produced & flavoring your food 100% of the time! Feel free to give us a call at 706-922-0890 if you have any further questions! Welcome to the REC TEC family. 🤘🔥

    Just for clarification your burn at 400 for an hour then cook or just bring the grill to 400 and then cook for an hour?

    • @bsterling9
      @bsterling9 2 года назад +1

      I am not with Recteq, but I just bought an RT700. You heat the grill up to 400, then set your timer for one hour and then after that you can start cooking. Total time, the initial heat up to 400 is probably 30 minutes, then 1 hour burn-in and then allow an hour for cooking, so total is 2 1/2 hours.

    • @recteq

      The round red I/O power switch to the right of the controller will operate the internal light! Because the RT-700 is an electric smoker, there is no need for changing batteries. If it goes out, simply pop off the lens and change the lightbulb. 💡

    Was excited to receive my RT-700 two weeks ago, but while cooking my first Brisket. The grill would not stay at or near the temperature that I had set. Huge temperature swings. At one point during the cook. The grill went over 300 degrees (set at 230 degrees). I had followed your videos on how to calibrate the grill and the probes. But after multiple attempts at calibrating. The grill still would go above the set temperature. I love this grill's stainless steel, but it being brand new. The automated temp adjuster/control should not have issues (uncontrollable temperature swings) like its having now. Could you please advise on what I can to do to get my RT-700 automatic temperature adjuster/control working properly, fixed, or the grill replaced?

      Follow-up on my post: Didn't know that Rec Tec is open on Saturdays and gave the customer service line a call. Expecting to have an automated message. The line was picked up by a Rec Tec Rep after 2 rings. Surprised with a smile. I told him my issues, and we went through a few questions and some possibilites of what could cause the large temperature fluctuations. The Rep thinks that it could be the temperature rod inside, on the left, and that it maybe to close to the left wall of the grill. There should be enough space to place the tip of your finger between the rod and wall. I inspected it, and sure enough. The rod was very close to the wall. I moved it over as far as I could to the right. I'm going to recalibrate all three grill temp probes to see if the issues happens again. Putting a brisket on shortly, and will follow-up. I wish I remembered the rep's name. He was great, and Rec Tec's customer service seems really good!

    How hard, really, is it to just send an assembly sheet for us older folks - and probably many younger ones as well, so we can just refer to it at our own pace?
