I found my way to you via Fundie Friday. I'm not religious, but I want to understand others and the "why" behind their choices and actions. Your content is about the only religious content I can stomach frankly, and I have really enjoyed your videos in 2024. I look forward to seeing your content evolve 2025, Tim.

I grew up going to a SBC and it was the hypocrisy of some of the other congregants that started my Q'ing things
But the 'problem of evil' (if God is good and created everything then where did evil come from?) was always an issue for me. I had read parts of the Bible before but it wasn't until
I read it with the intention of 'proving' it was right to an ex of mine that I realized it was contradictory and error ridden
There was no way to explain away some of it. I think for a lot of people it is many things.

@@e.m.8094am I correct to surmise that you are implying TNE is somehow false and yet somehow you or your belief is not false? Let me ask you a question. If your church is insisting that they have the right of it, and others don't, and thus their interpretation of who is and is not a false believer is what you are basing this on, but you don't spend any time in loving relationship with people with different beliefs than yours, then what does your certainty that you are correct say about you?

I've lived the last 8 years in isolation, unable to find a gathering of like minded believers. Believe me, I tried. The Dominionism, Trump cult , Rightwing Christian Nationalism, etc, has made it impossible to be involved. I've read extensively trying to understand what has happened, grieved over the blindness of believers, and their creation of another Jesus, one I don't recognize. To have a way to connect with politically progressive Christians in my area would be a lifesaver. I'm so glad you have thought to include that in your new content. A place to fellowship with believers who understand would be an answer to prayer. Anne Nelson's book" The Shadow Network" is a must read. So us " The Family," and " Undertow " by Jeff Sharlet , Katherine Stewart's " The Power Worshippers" and " Kristin DuMez's " Jesus and John Wayne." One last recommendation is Tim Alberta's " The Kingdom, Power, and the Glory." There are others that uncover the darkness that has deliberately altered Christianity in America to become a toxic brew of racism, bigotry , self promotion, and greed in its quest for power and control. Thank you Tim and April for putting this content out. It's been so deeply encouraging.

I agree completely! I haven’t been in a church building since 2016 for a variety of reasons and then came Christian Nationalism. I was horrified at friends who are sucked into this idea and then of course felt alienated that I would question it. Honestly I have grown by leaps and bounds in my faith in Jesus Christ in recent years. He is constant, it’s people who change. I’ve been praying for a community of people who share my faith yet reject this distortion of true Christianity, which is the teaching of Jesus. Read your Bible folks!

There are legions of deconstruction podcasts out there, and many of them are very good, but it is your humility, genuine curiosity, and openness to hearing from other people that make your show great. I am incredibly inspired by the unrelenting kindness of Tim. I am challenged and educated by guests of TNE. And I feel solidarity and comfort from watching Tim and April get mad, sad and wise against current day politics. I am able to tell conservative family members about TNE and how loving and Christ like liberal Christians like Tim can be. I wanted to say thank you for all your work this year. I can't remember if you came on my radar because of Fundie Fridays or if RUclips pushed one of the TNE videos into my feed with the right title to make me click. All I know is your unflinching examination of the harms of evangelical theology and commitment to humanity, dignity and respect gave me hope.
I am not a Christian anymore, but not because I don't like Jesus or the values that are in his actual gospels. I have a great respect for a faith tradition that is as deep and multifaceted as Christianity is. I was, however, constantly shamed and 'edified' about my natural expression of spirituality. I'm a pagan witch now. 🙂However, it brings me joy and hope to see you and April AJoy and the others you platform do the work of reclaiming Jesus for yourselves away from sexism, away from homophobia and racism and oppressive systems of control.
In the vein of your drive to amplify voices and explore more ways to foster community, I hope you will consider exploring how neurodivergence affects faith experience. As someone who is both autistic and ADHD, and has many friends who share a parallel experience, it seems quite evident to me that neurodiversity tends to accompany a way of engaging with faith that is unacceptable to traditional evangelicalism.
Thank you again for all the work you do. I'm very glad to hear that you are delegating and taking care of yourself, your loved ones and your IRL community. All the best for this year!

Personal comment of Laura Botten: All of the stuff you added in 2024 is what let me find you! Thank you for all you do; I really enjoy the FB group too :) I'm in Canada what I love about this channel is how to recognize narratives that creep into Canadian thinking as Christian foundation. I've been frustrated with my local churches for a while and even the leaders don't seem fully aware of where this thinking comes from. They will condemn Trump while espousing the same theology that's elected him. I want to support my southern neighbours by ensuring that I'm not supporting those who are against you.

As much as they claim to welcome and accept the neurodivergent community, let’s be honest, do they really? I’m constantly feeling like I’m walking into a wave of verbal aggression when it comes to having a relationship with our lord and savior, and I don’t like it. But I feel blessed and more welcome here in TNE community and it’s spiritually refreshing and I feel like I’m finding the real answers to the many questions that churches refuse to answer because of their ignorance and blind faith. I’ve been seeking no BS answers, and receiving validation from real Christians like Tim are healing to me.

But I’ve morphed into someone who is basically a spiritual person. I’ve seen the beauty of other “religions” and have found that all paths lead up to the same destination ….. love. May I make a suggestion. This is the first time I’m seeing you and went to check out your podcasts. I noticed many of your podcasts last an hour or more. It’s so much more appreciated if the podcasts are broken down to smaller segments. I’m much more likely to watch something that’s 30 minutes, than to watch something an hour+. I follow a lot of creators and if their videos are over 40 minutes I pass them by bc I simply don’t have the time and the attention span. I guess you know what I mean. Hii, I just felt the need to comment on your comment. I really appreciate your comment. My father was a Church of Christ preacher and all I heard all my life was "atheists are the biggest threat to Christianity" what BS. The biggest threat was & will always be people who claim to follow Jesus and use Jesus & the Bible as a weapon of hate & control. I started my deconstruction right around covid when I saw the total hate & hypocrisy for others by people who called themselves Christians. I sent my preacher an email and told him I would not be returning & all the reasons. Of course it was seen by them as my fault. I had been in that congregation for 20+ years, so it was a difficult thing to do, the church was all I knew. Some people say I left God but I never have, only the hate & hypocrisy. I now have many atheist friends and see them for what they have always been, wonderful ,caring humans whose morality is not tied to religion. Thanks again for your support!

I really believe that the ideas that you share combined with love and humility can literally save peoples lives. Keep going Tim.

Tim, you and April along with other podcasts by former Evangelicals like Straight White American Jesus, Full Mutuality, etc have been such a help to me, a former Catholic and now simply a struggling non-practicing Christian. Like you, my catharsis took place during 2020 seeing the selfish, hateful response of my fellow Catholics. Of course, everything with the CSA scandal in our church had severely weakened my beliefs. Esp when in 2018, we discovered our pastor had been credibly accused for acts with a minor back in the 80s and 90s. And how did our congregation react? They stood behind our pastor 💯 and called the victims "gold diggers". Given all of the response of the Catholic Church towards these criminal acts, I should've left long before 2020. However, when I finally left, I couldn't Find any content creators specifically with my background so I gravitated towards those deconstructing from the evangelical church. And all of you have been such a help and a blessing. So 1000 thanks to you for your knowledge and mostly, your joy! You've taught me that I can still find peace and joy in Christianity. Praying for your ministry to grow even more!

How about calling your new podcast "TNE Liberated" or "Liberation". Pastor Norman J Brown of J Jireh Ministries, in Columbus, OH would make a great guest. Perhaps you could reach out to him. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will reveal new opportunities and possibilities for investing in the Kingdom of God in 2025. Abundant Blessings to you, your family, your staff and those who partner with you.

Prepare for spiritual growth without religion or leaving practices will be on the rise in great numbers. Hopefully simple meditation practices will be sought by people really not knowing what to ask for in trying to quiet their mind. I'm only 6 months old spiritually at 60 and I'm excited about the new and soon exploding growth! The more numbers we have the stronger the vibrations of our prayers in Oneness will be answered quicker than we are or have been used to seeing. God is love and I believe charity/love is His Will. God bless!

I don't like the separate channel idea, this is my least favorite trend on RUclips.
And I would point out that it goes against the first idea of creating a "one stop shop" so essentially what this announcement is is that the TNE social offerings are being consolidated into one site, while the RUclips offerings are being separated.
I like coming to this channel and getting a variety, and sometimes I don't remember whether the video where I heard something was interview or recap style and so I'll come to this one channel and search it. Easy to find the content I have want to relisten

Please invite Pat Kahnke, who has his own You Tube channel. He is an absolutely amazing authentic Christian, a really mature Christian who pastored a church in Minnesota for 20 years. He has written books, one of which is title: "A Christian Case against Donald Trump". He convicts Christians who support and even adore donald trump, warning them daily about the danger they are in. Please invite him as a guest on your channel. I love this man and consider him to be "my pastor". He is, like you, sent from God to help us, to guide us. He is really good. Thank you for reading my suggestion.

Tim, I think you are a beautiful person. I am approaching 72 and a loser in the eyes of our society (world) of the United States. You are building something that can continue to be very special. Since I'm a loser -- one of the biggest -- I'd also be an idiot if I tried to offer any advice. The last thing I'd want you to do is heed it.
But I do not believe that I'm a loser in the presence of my Creator. I accept that I can't serve two masters.

19:05 yessss sooo many believe all religious people are the same and think everyone who is religious are In a cult when that's not true at all. Also we do not have all the same morals, beliefs or thoughts. Soo many of us, especially nowadays are progressive and don't have the beliefs like "anything but straight is a sin", "all lgbtq+ people are predators", "you should abstain from sex before marriage" etc

I never saw you before but the title of your channel "The New Evangélicals" caught my attention.
I was involved in church very much and graduated from a seminary but now I'm more in line with all the interviews presented in Myth Vision. In reality I started to change after 9/11 when I discovered that the history it's been shaped by powerful people and their economical interests and that History in all areas including Christianity it's been manipulated; now it's been confirmed by archeology, philology and a multitude of scholarly books on history from the first century before and after Christ it's overwhelming.
I just start watching you so I will make more comments as soon as I learn where are you standing on this issues.
I don't think must of the christianns are prepared for the changes that are coming in the evangelical church starting at the seminaries and Christian colleges.

  • @hopeful135

Tim: I watched your interview with Sean McDowell. I side with you when it comes to theology. ECT and Inerrancy are false dogmas which I gave up several years ago but have maintained the core ingredients of the gospel.....which is Jesus is the Son of God, He died and was raised so we might have eternal life and that He will return to judge the living and the dead.
I can survive with this reputation probably because I live in the Northeast. If I were in the Bible Belt I might be looking at a different set of circumstances.
There are vast differences in the culture of the North and what is found in Texas. I say this to say that you and I are at different ends of the political spectrum. Christian nationalism is such a small part of the overall picture that I cannot see how you can attribute Trumps success in the election because of this group. A vote for Trump was a vote against Kamala because of who she is when it came to exercising her duties under the constitution. She was the Czar of the Border and never visited it to get a handle on what was going on. How can any one vote for a liar and one who shirked her duties.
I don't like Trump either and all of the Christian men that I know don't like him either, but they voted for the platform which is on the conservative side which Trump represented. So you are saying you would have voted for Kamala or did vote for her.
Politics is not an area where I want to spend all my time. I am an American citizen and will vote for the party that continues to make America a safe and prosperous place so that we have enough left over to take care of our own. I believe you are extremely naive. I was in the service and Biden left American people in Afghanistan when Americans deployed out. No real American would have done that. Biden was incompetent during his 4 year tenure and the democratic leaders hid his condition from all of us. And that is the party you voted for because it represented the best of Christianity displayed? Where pray tell are you coming from?
So you want to welcome the Illegal Aliens and give them help, benefits, and other perks more than our own destitute citizens.
Bottom line is that I have given up the worst accretions to Christianity. You have given up on America for the worst of a few narrow ignorant evangelicals. It scares me to see those who have shed some of the bad accretions of Christianity and then immediately go to the other political side because they feel that there is such a strong connection between Christian fundamentalism and Conservative values in finance and societal mores.
I would like to say a lot more, but I hate being a bore.

Big dreams are fine but big dreams take time. Prioritize your expansive ideas. The way you were talking it sounded like five year plan material, not one year. I’m all here for the anti-daily wire.
It would be interesting if you could bring on people like Hasan Piker to discuss the intersection of faith and politics as he has a large respect for religion and also critiques the right and their Christian nationalism.
Another group to reach out to if interested would be the boys in The deprogram podcast. Explicitly Marxist, but would very much entertain the conversation. JT from that group has an entire episode actually on his channel about Christian nationalism.
I think leftists are more than willing to have the dialogue with you about how religion plays a role because it all traces back to class consciousness.
Love what you do Tim and co!
