- In today's video, I come up with a few very far fetched theories as to why Gary Smith is destined to fail in his plans to take over Bullworth Academy.

I have a theory about Gary and his plan to "take over the school." I believe at first his original goal for the year was in fact to take over the school with both Jimmy as the muscle and Pete as the face, (He probably meant for Pete to become Head Boy so that Gary could bully and control him.) but there's a moment when everything changes. During the beginning cut scene of "A little Help" Jimmy and Gary have a very interesting confrontation. After his constant teasing of Pete Jimmy tells him to "Just knock it off Gary." To which Gary replies "Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize I was in the girls dorm, silly me!" Then Jimmy says the words that causes the outcome of the entire game. "Just shut up man YOU'RE BORING." Watch the scene and see how Gary is shocked for a second, and nearly attacks Jimmy in rage, but backs off quickly before it escalates. A narcissist like Gary would've taken great offense to that. That's when his plan changes. He uses the ruling the school idea to trick others into helping him and furthering his plans, but his ultimate goal was to cause a riot and land all blame on Jimmy. The school's biggest trouble maker and bully. Which he created himself through careful manipulation of events and rumors throughout the entire game.

Well, yeah. Only one game in the series. I didn't mean it... Ah, nevermind. He is just great antogonist and I never saw in any other games some schoolboy, who can make all school and even prefects go crazy and try to fight each other. It's still the secret for me, how Gary could tie Dr. Crabblesnitch. Every person, who listen Gary, starts hate Jimmy. Gary even don't have any team or friends to help him, he did it by himself. But, I guess, if he just could take pills, he still could be a friend for Jimmy. And maybe this idea about "Take over the school!" didn't even exist. Who knows...

Well Gary Smith isn’t just a bully. He’s actually evil. He’s a liar and a cheater.
*Gary is a sociopath. He actually seemed to be friends with Jimmy, until he stopped taking his meds. In the end, his paranoid instincts and arrogance got the better of him. He is by far one of the most realistic antagonists in the games.*
Such an interesting antagonist with an unforgetable personality. Kinda wonder about Gary's back story, who shit in his Cheerios for him to have the need to cause so many problems, like goddamn.

just wanted to add something that i noticed during the mission "Slingshot", in the cutscene Gary begins to test his manipulation and control over Jimmy by telling him that Pete called him dumb, Jimmy didn't even thought about it and got angry at Pete, at that moment Garry knew Jimmy is easy to manipulate and continued instigating just for fun, the moment Pete notices and tries to call his bs out Gary kick him in the balls to make him stop talking because he knew he could control Jimmy.
From that point Gary saw Jimmy as inferior to him because he was easy to manipulate, but he was envious of his brawn and angry at his tough guy attitude, so he knew he had to put Jimmy in his place by making him fight the strongest guy in school, but even before that happens he insults Jimmy intelligence many times because he doesn't respect people that can't see through him.
When Jimmy defeated Russel Gary knew that he couldn't use just muscles to beat Jimmy, nothing could stop him from taking over all the other factions and he couldn't stand the idea of Jimmy having his way, he's the new kid, easy to manipulate and don't bother planning or thinking about his next move, he just beats everyone and everyone respects and fears him for it, for a narcissistic and overthinker guy like Gary, Jimmy is his worst nightmare.
Gary doesn't care about taking over the school, he doesn't care about the respect of anyone or the consequences of his actions, he just want to see Jimmy fail and make everyone hate him, and by the end of the game he's euphoric because he won, he proved to Jimmy that his methods were superior to his brawn, so even if he gets beaten in the end i'm pretty sure that from his perspective he still won and it was worth it, he manipulated everyone and defeated his nemesis the exact way he wanted, for a narcissistic guy like him this is the ultimate victory.

I think Gary really didn't think about how to keep control over the school afterwards. He keeps saying that's what his goal was, but maybe all he ever wanted was a chance to cause massive chaos (or Complete Mayhem) and be recognized by the whole school as the guy who was smart and dangerous enough to turn that place upside down.
Also, to turn Jimmy's life into a living hell, because he seems like the type who cares more about screwing with others than about his own good. He would probably get expelled and face all cliques in the school afterwards with a smile on his face if he could accomplish that.

People with ASPD often don't think about long-term consequences, and sometimes have little regard for even their own safety.
He's also really fixated on Jimmy in particular.
I'm pretty certain Gary was screwed even if Jimmy never showed up since he was the one who tied up the principal. He knows Gary is either the mastermind or a key player behind the riots. I imagine the judge throwing the book at him.
I don't think Gary actually planned on keeping control. Recall his line before the final fight: "Because I can! Because making little people like you, and the morons who run this place, eat out of the palm of my hand feels great!" We all knew a kid like Gary at some point. A shit disturber that likes to stir the pot just to see what happens. But Gary, being Gary, took it to a dangerous extreme, just to prove he could.
To be honest, if I was him I wouldn't either, It's school, I would graduate eventually.

He’s just a teen and taking the fact he’s probably not dead. His manipulation game seems on top. Since he managed to get the entire schools approval twice. He seems quite smart. And as an adult. You’d understand he’d only get better at it.

To me Gary is a joker like antagonist. All he wanted was chaos. He didn't really care about winning.

That could’ve been Zoe’s idea to burn the gym from her personal reason.
Gary's plan was perfect if we analyzed the situation carefully:
- He managed to turn all the students and even the principal against Jimmy
- He managed to become head of the school monitors and told the principal who was responsible for the graffiti in the city hall.
What failed was that he didn't expect Jimmy to join the troublemakers and Russell. That's what caused his downfall.
The fail on Gary plan is that his plan is only for short time, he doesnt know what do next, and other even if he defeated the Townie by miracle he wouldnt be in control for soo long
Yeah, he only had a strategy how to get to the top, but he had no idea how to stay there. It's a classic, really.

I was always confused as to what he expected to happen in the final mission. Jimmy was destined to beat that ass
It's obvious that when Jimmy and Gary first met, Gary was only knowing that Jimmy is angry and aggressive. Later on the mission "this is your school" Gary showed Jimmy the cliques in the school, Gary paid an attention of how Jimmy would react, Jimmy's obviously angry and acting tough that saying he's not afraid of the cliques.
The twist is, I thought Gary watches him fighting the bullies in the mission 'the setup' (i bet somehow Gary was involved in 'the setup' mission, because he later knows that Jimmy got a new slingshot at the mission 'slingshot'... then again he knew how strong Jimmy is after beating the bullies, and would reveal he has a plan to take over the school in the mission 'slingshot' , and also Gary did involved in 'the setup' because he wanted to test Jimmy's strength , just to know how capable Jimmy is to take over the school)

The way Gary’s plans went ironically went for the better for Jimmy because despite his sane mindset and careless of humanity, he actually managed to become the savior of Bullworth.

Actually even if Gary killed Jimmy (what is difficult because Jimmy is strong as hell) he wouldnt beat Edgar, Russell or every other Townie soo...he is screwd and he would be arrested or being one intern

Jimmy and Gary have a Batman and joker like character arch. I’ve never liked an annoying antagonist but joker and Gary are ones I can enjoy.
The real question is where is Gary hiding the through out the whole game?
In his dorm room. He spends the majority of the game in the background planning and spreading rumours about Jimmy and only appears when he has to turn events in his favour. (Getting the Preps and Greasers, whom Jimmy was nearly on friendly terms with, to turn against him)
Paul Heenan why doesn’t jimmy just bust in and beat him up. In chapter 1 Gary got into Jimmy’s room multiple times (e.g. halloween)

I saw this as a let down, but I love (from a story prospective) that the Gary boss battle was terrible. While jimmy was building up his fighting skills, gary mostly spread rumors to cause trouble having other people do his dirty work. It makes sense gary has no chance in his physical fight with jimmy.

Hey Nathan nice theory about Gary. I think that his plan would conceal of making a total havoc and in the critical point bringing the peace and becoming the school hero. Crabblesnitch might have not seen him when he tied him up. This is the only explanation I see why Gary wanted to start all this chaos
You should do a theory if jimmy went to prison after the events of bully for example in the beginning of the game Gary said that jimmy is destined to go to prison on chapter six Algernon says I heard rumors jimmy is going to prison

Someone should do a video on clique battles. I don't mean 1v1. I mean squads, armies, fire squads. Like all the school cliques vs townies or bullies and nerds vs preppies or jocks. Preppies and greasers do a full on battle and really see who will win. With and without leaders.

Someone in another video pointed out how similar the dynamic between Jimmy and Gary was to that of Daniel Lamb and Leo Kaspar in Manhunt 2. One pulls the strings on the other and sends them on a destructive path to do their bidding. One even has a shaved head and the other has hair
Take over the school and hold control over the school are very different goals. He looked at Bulworth as a Jenga tower. Having it all fall down isn’t the same as trying to stare at the blocks all over the table or keep them unassembled.

Man, Nathan, I love these videos don’t get me wrong.. but are you sure you can keep it up? Bully’s story isn’t exactly the deepest, and your channel is more focused on fact-gathering and entirely-hypothetical theorizing than on deeper analysis (and a scan through your comments doesn’t make me think they’re in the market for something very academic)-aren’t you a little worried on focusing so closely on Bully? That seems to be the trap SWEGTA fell into, and he was originally a more general Rockstar channel, I think
I have plans for Red Dead 2 stuff so I'm not too worried about being entirely focused on Bully.
As much as I love it, it's not something anyone can keep up forever, and the longer Bully goes without a sequel, the more chance of it fading into obscurity, and if I only do Bully stuff then my channel will probably fall. Red Dead 2 should provide a breath of fresh air to my channel. Not abandoning Bully entirely of course, but it's all about trying new things and trying to keep fresh.
