It was originally recorded in 1985 on the Fecal Matter tape. He was coughs throughout the song and almost sings it as if in parody. It’s fantastic. This version was about 2 1/2 years later, and undoubtedly is much cleaner. Jack Endino is the one doing the background vocals on the first verse! I still think the version recorded on Jan 23rd 1988 was a better version though. I think Kurts vocals sounded better on that demo session. I must admit i wasn't as into the Fecal Matter recording done in 1985 of this song. Even though a few of the Fecal Matter songs carried on to Nirvana in their early days, like Spank Thru, Downer, Annorexocist they were played better when the song structure changed in them when they became Nirvana songs. However that said there are some awsome songs that would have made excellent Nirvana songs from the Fecal Matter recording like Sound Of Dentage, Blather's Log and Class of '86 they would have made excellent Jack Endino recordings. I wish they had as Dale Crover played the drums (and bass) on Fecal Matter and the drums on the first Jack Endino 10 track demo. This version is still great though. The 1989 BBC recording of this song is great aswel!

I’ve listened to this song thousands of times and some of the lyrics still don’t sound like people suggest but I think that’s what makes this song so good there’s always been that mystery behind the lyrics

    • @archiebotten4061

Actually there’s an article from a playboy interview he did where one of the photos has the handwritten lyrics to this song on it. I have that article. All I’ll say is the chorus is actually “I’ve been looking for day glow/tired of having the same old/sticky boredom in my bedroom/when I could make it do things you wouldn’t think it ever could” 😁

First song I ever tabbed on my own when I was like 14. Think I even uploaded it to ultimate guitar. If you're wondering, basically the whole song is variations of A, D, and G chords. Aka the rock n roll progression lol. May be an F in there too. Might be a good first song to learn if you're interested in playing guitar.
