I'm fascinated, and indeed honoured to see your interpretation here Shannon!!💜 Thanks so much for having a go at my messy wax paper idea, you absolutely made my day 🥰👍❤️
And thank YOU for so generously sharing your ideas and talents!!
As I read this I am hearing your voice.
I know just how you feel, Shannon was one of the first people I subscribed to way back in the 2000s. I also regularly watch you too. Thank you both for showing us so much, XOX joy, Spain
Inspired me as well! Waiting on Amazon to deliver my travel iron at the typing of this message. ❤️ Thank for sharing.
Your iron is the same as Joie. I clicked on your video cause your name is the same as my niece. I smiled when you started doing this because I watched Joie video last night. Have fun and do your own thing. Lots of Love, Light and Laughter Forever!
I just used my wax melted to do a collage card in my livestream yesterday. So fun! I might do a video just on that. I bet you would love one and they are not expensive. You can use the wax once the smell is gone for art. I'll check out your friends channel!
I love it when serendipity happens! I caught a few minutes of your stream yesterday but missed the wax. I’ll watch again this afternoon when I can actually pay attention. 😊 Thanks so much for stopping by!
*Omgosh.... I absolutely love to repurpose & not waste stuff. Love the idea of using wax melts that lost their scent. Thank you... That's exciting for sure!!! 😊😊😊* Sharon in SC
Oh my! This takes me back! In my Girl Scout troop--maybe 3rd or 4th grade-- we drew with colored crayons on plain muslin bags. Then the leaders layered newsprint under and over the drawings and heat set our creations with a hot iron. It was so fun to see the end product and use the bag!
I have a vague memory of doing something similar!!
the way I get watercolor on a rubber stamp is to dampen the stamp (use a misting bottle - just a little - ) and then use watercolor crayons. you can use more than one color and let them blend as watercolors do. It takes practice because it is easy to get too thick paint that is too dark but once you get it, it's wonderful! "I gotta say I LOVE the melted crayon!!!
Great idea, thanks!
Shannon Green!!! You were one of the first RUclipsrs I found probably 10 or so years ago who totally inspired me to have fun with art! Since then I fell down the rabbit hole of RUclips videos and different folks. I am so happy that I have found you again- feel like I have come full circle! Thank you for such creative ideas, presented in such a fun, easy to understand way!! I won’t lose track of you again!!
Judy, you’re back! That’s okay, I took a RUclips hiatus for a while so you didn’t miss much!
She was one of the first mixed media RUclips artists for me, too! Yes, at least ten years go, but seems more like twelve. I kept giggling today because it’s like being home with myself watching my own antics (for example): “It’s still liquid!” *brush loaded with paint* “Now why isn’t a palette right in front of me?” Also, I subscribe to Joie de Fie but didn’t see the inspirational video yet.
@@rebeccaturner7097 I went to Joie de Fie and watched her video and promptly subscribed! She is great! She used a large waxed paper into a journal cover which was so cool!!
@@rebeccaturner7097 I am feeling the love, Rebecca, thank you so much!! 🥰🥰🥰
That vintage paper was thirsty! It loved the wax
Thanks for watching!
When I was a child, my mom and I put leaves and feathers, glitter, etc , with crayon shavings, between two sheets of waxed paper. Fused with iron, for window art. Fun for children.
Fun memory!
Loved your papers, Shannon! I watched Joie’s video too. Definitely want to give it a try. Oh, so many fun things to do and so little time. Thanks for sharing the Shannonizing of this cool technique! ❤️
I would love to see your spin on it!
Shannon I use a old box grater to grate up wax. Watch your fingers near the end of the piece of wax or wear safety gloves. Cool process thanks for sharing
That crossed my mind and I was wishing I had an extra!
@@ShannonGreen Garage sales have cheap old graters!
Exactly! Glad I saw your comment before I said the same thing.
I have taught HS Art for 20 years and one of my former students sent me this video. She said, “I watched this tutorial and this lady reminded me so much of you! She cracks me up and just keeps it real!”
So, I just watched this video and I loved your demo so much! You are wonderful and brought a smile to my face! I loved that you weren’t afraid to try whatever… and it made me laugh out loud many times! Thanks for inspiring me..and I’m glad I was compared to such a cool lady! 😃 “Why is there no palette right in front of me??? Oh, there it is!” 😂🤣 😂
I’ve now subscribed to your channel and Joie and I’m excited to learn from both of you. Looks like I’m late to the party!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and subscribe and I appreciate your student as well! You are obviously a very cool teacher! 😁
Oh my gosh! I have a small travel iron that I was just about to donate to a thrift shop!! BUT now I must keep it and put to good use! Thank you so much!!!!
You NEED that iron!
LOVE THE crayon idea...I could watch your videos all day...
I just LOVE them hon! I have played with wax before but not with the watercolour and crayons before! Thankyou so much for the inspiration! 😊❤️🇦🇺xxx
And thank YOU for watching!
I also watch Joie, love you both! I also love reading all the comments as all are so generous with added tips and musings. A true artistic community!! My thanks to you all.
Oh I agree, our community is the best!
I love the one you went overboard’ on the best I think!
Too much is still not quite enough!
Great fun! Try a vegetable grater to get lots of little wax pieces.
Yes I’m on the look out for one at a thrift store.
This is too fun. I kept thinking I'd grab an old potato peeler for the wax stuff. You are a great inspiration. And funny too. Have a good one.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Isn't Joie the best? I had to laugh when you said, "She used this but I don't have that..." a couple times... but that's what Joie says, right? Use what you have. Great vid, TYFS. Smiles from the Southern California desert, MK 😁🏜😁
Joie is the BEST!!
You’re hilarious! Love watching & especially listening to you. Instead of scissors I use a potato peeler for the wax. (Most of my kitchen utensils are now in my art space.)
I hear ya!
Shannon I just love how you play and experiment, beautiful papers have fun petting them ❤️
😂 Thanks Janet, I most certainly will!
I do this as well and a flat plate iron is the best. I have never had any issues with it sticking to the iron, the heat melts it right off. I would agree, though, I wouldn't use it on clothes after, just in case. If you are worried about it, you can use some Parchment paper between the iron and wax.
LOVE Joie! And I love your take on this technique! 🙂
Thanks Hali!
You ladies are so inspirational! Loving them!
Thank you Louisa!
This is an amazing technique! I love that you added color by melting crayons. Many thanks to you and Joie!
Thanks so much for watching!
Your personality is delightful! Great technique and beautiful papers. Thank you for the tutorial!!
Thanks so much for watching!
I watched the same video and like you, I was fascinated! I love her tutorials. You are brave, lol, and it turned out beautifully!
Thanks Pam!
I love the way these look!
Thanks for watching!
Love love love them... definitely gonna try this. Thanks for sharing. 💕🌺💕
Thanks for watching Charlene!
Wow! I love seeing all the paper together at the end , such yummy eye candy. I thought you did a great job, now I am inspired to go do it myself😊
Go for it!
Beautiful, lot of inspiration ❤
Oh how cool!! Thank you for linking the video, so I can watch it and do it the Arlene way. 😀
😂 Thanks for watching my friend!
It's easier to use a mico plain or box grater to grate you wax xx loved your addition of the gold flakes
Yes, I’m on the lookout for a used one I can dedicate to craft purposes. Thanks for watching!
You have done your self proud 😁love your results great job your paper’s are amazing thank you for sharing

Thank you Theola!
I really liked this! I especially liked the colors on the parts that you used to clean your brush. LOL To each their own I guess. Love ya Shannon! xxoo

what a brilliant idea!

Looks like a fun technique to try. I’ll check out Josie’s video too. Loved the effects of the leafing, h2o’s and crayons. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Dorothy!
i MUST try this!!!!! very cool outcome!!!!
Go for it!
Oh you got some really lovely results tfs Shannon, I have to get me a spare iron tfs Shannon...Kia Kaha...
Hope you can give it a try Maggie!
Lovely!! Thank you Sara x
Thanks Sara!

Thanks Kathy!
I love this!
Thanks Tamarie!
you made some really neat looking papers!
Thanks Aimee!
I've never watched you before. Very funny. I don't have that, I don't have that. 😁 yet it came out beautifully. Vicki
There’s always a work-around! I sure do appreciate you taking the time to watch 😊
How much fun is this? You are so fun to listen to as you make your decisions....I wonder if a cheese grater would be good to use for the wax? I really love the gilding idea and was thinking maybe using a piece of Parchment or freezer paper when melting wax if that would hold it in or peel it off? Must try.....Yep, I guess I gotta try... Thank you for a great video!
Thanks for watching Ginger!
Shannon, I always find so much to agree with in your videos - outside the actual crafting knowledge. While I expect I am much older than you, I developed macular degeneration a few years ago and (whine, moan, cry) it's terrible to lose much of your vision. Affects all elements of life. Well, enough pity party. I forgot to order cupcakes (as I can no longer bake) so we'll just cancel the party. I, too, love Joie's videos and watched her waxing the paper video. I've done that before (with the beeswax pellets) but never thought to put another piece of paper on top to absorb the extra wax. So glad to catch you on this video. COVID is rearing its ugly mutated head again so take care, stay safe.
You forgot to order cupcakes for the pity party!! 😂😂😂 I love it! I sure do appreciate you taking the time to watch and/or listen! 🥰
Thank u so much that was awesome. I will definitely grate my wax after watching u lol. Your papers turned out beautifully!
Well I see you are followed by many I follow. So hey. I'll follow you too!! This is a great way to use my wax pieces I just leave in the cupboard. Lol. Thanks for reminding me about this. I love the crayons added. So pretty.
Thanks so much for watching and following! 🥰
And of course I have a bug bomb going in the art room and cannot go out there. I can't wait to try this. And of course my favorite was your picture that said birdie on it.
Awww I should have sent it to you but I’ve already bound it in a journal!
That's OK I'm not bitter. I have other things to have issues with you about. I came out here to air out the art room from the bug bomb so I could do some not your mama's wax paper. And hours later I am vacuuming and looking for a mouse. Why? Because there was mouse poo on top of my wax warmer.... It's OK I'm not bitter!!!
@@birdietherecycledhippychic642 😂😂😂
This has got my interest! As always, your work is beautiful! One thing I was wondering is why use a paper towel to clean off your iron? You could keep some book pages close by to grab some of that color! Just a thought.
Great idea, thanks!
Shannon, what an amazing technique this is! I've used tiny wax pellets from the hobby store before, and apparently always have used too much. My pieces all came out entirely coated in wax, no negative spaces. I am going to give this technique a go, it looks like so much fun! And I love your little pops of colors and grids and script. This was just delightful. thanks for the share. I'll check out joie de fi's YT as well.
Thanks for watching and enjoy your experiments!
Really nice paper
Thanks Linda!
I love Joie's videos too. You cracked me up when you said with a bit of awe, that "she actually USES the things she makes! Well, sometimes that happens around here." I must say, I resemble that remark....the second part that is! LOL
I was surprised at the water based paint on wax! You know, the whole lean over fat as a no no. Does it really dry and stay? How about just using an ink pad like Brilliance? I think that's the brand, my studio has been packed up and in storage. ☹️ Wonder about maybe rubbing some mica powder to hit the wrinkles before the wax? Walnut ink or crystals in the mix? I want to play! 😭
All great ideas!
You could use a grater to break up that wax.
I have encaustic waxes. I have a box of colored waxes and a few bars of clear.
I’m searching for a thrift store grater!
*Hello, I'm new here with Big Thumbs up with Full watch & find this Very Interesting. Like someone commented I would just use my wax melts they come in different colors too. I absolutely Love the Dragonfly page, bird page & bird cage!!! Awesome share. Thank you!!! 😊😊😊* Sharon in SC
Thanks so much for watching Sharon!
Fantastic video! You have an amazing laugh and sense of humor! Very inviting to watch and listen. Will be checking out your channel. New subbie 🙂
I sure do appreciate you taking the time to watch and subscribe!
I really enjoyed this video and Joie's video - what fun - i need to try this right away - well by the end of watching this lol 🤗 i made several papers and now my house smells like Grandma's Sugar Cookies 🤣🤣🤣so its a win win !!!
I have GOT to get me one of those wax warmer things!
@@ShannonGreen it is worth having - i set mine up on the stove top so that the aroma goes all around and its nice and safe xx
Great tutorial! Very interesting techniques. I wonder what would happen with one of those no stick crafting sheets placed over the paper before ironing? Would it keep the gilding flakes where you want them?
It might, I didn’t even think to try. Thanks for the idea!
I always enjoy your videos, Shannon! I haven’t watched Joie’s video, yet. I’m am too involved in watching the news. I don’t know why they call it monkey pox but I know it’s damn serious. How did we ever get to this point where we laugh at tragedies? If anything, I wish I could tune out the noise but it’s everywhere. It takes discipline to stay focused on watching people make art or even better, making art, myself. I like the sound effects that happen when you are cutting wax with your scissors. Sweet.
I hear ya! Thanks so much for watching 😊
Hey Shannon! These turned out so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your process and for the original link. I am subscribed to both of you but I feel like I live in a bubble lately, things have been so busy. xx
I hear ya! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!
You could try using a potato peeler on the wax to get peels to melt into paper.
I’m looking for a used cheese grater at my thrift stores, I think either would be easier than scissors!
Neato is right. Wow!
Thanks so much!
How about misting some coffee or color on and let dry before crinkling and waxing? I am looking forward to trying...on a smaller scale because I only have a tiny craft iron!
Great idea!
When I have 'lumps' of wax (where DO these things come from? lol), I just use either a potato peeler or cheese grater to lay down the 'pieces' on my papers. Works great and are very easy to control.
I need more kitchen tools in my art room! 😄
@@ShannonGreen Absolutely!!! And then, of course, we'll need all new kitchen stuff. (you know: to be 'safe') bahahahahaha Questions at my house: "Where EXACTLY has this pasta maker been used last?" Me: 🤔🤫🤐🤥
I loved tour take on Joie's tutorial. And holy crap, why didn't I think of crayons? lol
Ha! Thanks for watching!
Great video! I'm wondering how you might use the papers. Thanks
I made junk journals from mine. You can see them here:

I absolutely loved your video!!! You made me laugh, and I learned a few things. Most of all ya had fun and that came across. I subscribed to your channel, anytime I find an arty farty person ( no offense for the farty term ) that can make me giggle is a fantastic! Thanks so much for putting your video on you tube!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video, Pam, and thanks for subscribing!
Cheese grater for the wax like when you make beeswax wraps!
Exactly!!
Fantastic results. What binder did you use with the Luminere paint pigments?
I just used the paint straight from the jar.
You can use a food grater to use on the blob of wax instead of scissors.
Yes I just don’t have one for art stuff!
I wonder if you were to use a small holed cheese grater if that would give you more even coverage of the wax. And I’m also thinking if we used a gold ink pad for the stamping. Hm? This is a wonderful idea!!Thank you for sharing
Great ideas, thanks!
Awesome! Is that card stock on the music sheet?
I didn't use any csrdstock, it was all text weight papers.
I’ve never seen this technique, I’m curious does the wax crumble up when you tear the paper?
I suppose it could if it’s thick but I melted mine down so I only had a thin coat.
I'm pretty sure that some fine mica powder will disperse nicely across the sheet (pearl-ex type fine mica) :-)
I think you're right!
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Potato peeler would work great
Theola
Sure would!
💖
You don’t need to cut or grate the wax, just take the hunk of wax and rub it all over the bottom of your hot iron and then put the iron directly on the project and move it around.
I’ve tried that in the past and when I flip the iron over I end up flinging hot wax all over everything including myself! 😂 I clearly lack the coordination for that technique.
@@ShannonGreen Lol, that’s quite a picture you painted, in wax!
@@LynsAlteredArts 😂😂😂
Just watched this (again) & it made me laugh (again) (“she used this but I don’t have that so I’m just gonna wing it”). 😂 Do you live anywhere near the west Florida panhandle?
I don’t, I’m in NW Arkansas.
How about using a grater rather than scissors?
I’m on the hunt for one at my thrift stores. 🤞
It is a neat idea, but I wanted to hand you a small cheese grater to shredded the wax instead of using your scissors. Have a great day thank you for the great videos
I would have taken it from you!
Interesting
Thanks for watching!
I use a small cheese grater to shave the wax.
Great idea!
My be if you use a grader on the wax
I’m keeping an eye out for one at my thrift stores.
Personally, I liked the Birdie Darling before you put the foil on it, but it was beautiful afterwards too. But just in case the foil isn't enough the firs time, is it possible to glue foil onto wax or paper? Then spray a coating over it to adhere it? I'm trying to think of ways to place foil without the use of more wax. Thank you! Great video.
Maybe it would work to drop the gold leaf-type flakes onto the paper along with the bits of wax & iron them together...the flakes might stick better.
I’m not sure why that didn’t cross my mind, I think you’re right!
Yes I could have used a foiling glue but at this time I was more focused on experimenting with what the wax could and couldn’t do. Now that I have a better understanding, I can branch out with those embellishments. Thanks for watching and for the ideas!
Merci beau coup
Thanks for watching!
Try Doing ur stamping paint bfor the wax
Great idea, thanks!
I wonder what would happen if you used mica power….
I’m thinking a little fabulous would happen!
Hi Shannon….long time no see…….Susan Hill
So good to “see” you again my friend!!
😀😀😀COOL😀😀😀!!!
Thank you Victor!
Haven’t watched all, but Neocolor or crayons?
I think they’d work great!
Could you use a cheese grader ???
Definitely! I’ll need to get one I can dedicate to crafting.
I guess it'll be ok to wrap your iron in aluminum foil to avoid to ruin it... ?? 🙂
Might be worth a try!
try a cheese grater to shred your wax
Will do!
U need a coffee cup stain on the invoice one...
Absolutely!
Monkey pox! LOL
Monkey, chicken, small… pick your pox! 😂
I feel like an idiot asking this question and scrolled thru hoping someone else had already asked. 🫣🤦🏼♀️🤣 Would you mind telling me what twinkle toes are? I googled it and found horse hoof polish and searched for it with your name on RUclips and nothing again. I’d love to get/make some! Thank you and take care! ❤️
😁 You are not an idiot at all, I just failed to explain myself. I was referring to Twinkling H2Os. They are sparkly watercolors and I often stumble over the name so I just refer to them as Twinkle Toes!
