hey Ed ,so many thanks to you ....youre melodic vibes are sooo unique ...really one of the biggest gifts to generations of people who love and live the rock n roll music....we love you for ever ....other dimensions are waiting for you .....see ya
Let's not forget: Eddie did not invent the finger-tapping, but he greatly popularized it to a new generation of guitarists. But he remains a household name in the world of guitar and will live to do so. Thank you for all the fabulous music, Eddie.
@@dbmxerinca When Eddie introduced his highly developed "tapping" technique to the masses, modern high gain amps had yet to be created (and he said he never used distortion or OD pedals). As for pickups, Eddie chose to use his self-modified PAFs over the few hot pickups that existed at the time (i.e. Super Distortion or JB). Also, EVH didn't need any kind of amp or pickup to make tapping easier for himself, and this is obvious on "Spanish Fly."
A few thoughts… Eddie was one of the greatest guitarist of all time and his solo on eruption literally changed the way music was played and created a generation of guitarist who mimicked his style of play. Don’t take my word for it take John Kovach director of the Rochester Institute of music and a professor of music at RIT. He stated about eruption one minute and 40 seconds that changed music forever. Sure Eddie had his vices and problems like all of us but being a public figure he is were widely publicized battles with cocaine heroin and alcohol. He built his own guitars to create his own sound and holds three Patents; He created the Frankenstat A cross between a stratacaster and a Gibson and holds the patent for the peghead, One for a hands-free device that allowed playing guitar with no hands and one for a string instrument With adjustable string tension control all of which allowed the guitar to create sounds never heard before and changed music forever. I grew up on Van Halen and was in high school when they were released their self titled debut album. Their music not only followed me throughout my youth but influenced me heavily in a positive way and he is certainly an icon of the music industry and a guitarist. When he was inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame in 2007 here’s peers ranked him number four on the top 100 guitarist of all time. I think that pretty much says it all and refute all of the petty negative comments written here. RIP Eddie you will be sorely missed and it takes me back to the passing of Tom Petty to legends of rock ‘n’ roll who were certainly jamming together in heaven now… How I would love to hear that jam session

@Zack hummel Ed told a story about how he was at an airport where Beat It was playing on the overhead speakers and these 2 teens were standing in front of him talking about the currently playing solo saying "that guy's trying to sound like Eddie Van Halen" and Ed tapped em on the shoulder saying "that IS me" RIP Eddie.
Gone too soon, I’m absolutely devastated over his passing, he’s one of the best guitarists I ever heard and made me pick up the guitar. I’m sure he’s jamming with Moon and Entwistle and enjoying seeing his Dad again. R.I.P. Eddie.
I never knew he contributed to Michael Jackson's music. Fascinating. The first money I spent on Van Halen recordings was on the 5150 LP. I never got tired of VH music. RIP! God bless!!
If only Hendrix did not join the "27 club" and lived long enough to have met Eddie VH in a studio. hmmmm.?! Hopefully, they met on the other side by now. Wishful thinking admittedly. Peace!
I cranked that song up on my way home when we were on Rock the House. Now it has a whole new meaning,, RIP Eddie another great artist gone way to soon,,,
You got one thing wrong: EVH did not "devise" two-handed fretboard tapping, it was around long before EVH. Contemporary guitarists that predated EVH like Steve Lynch, Harvey Mandel, and Steve Hackett used this technique--just listen to Hackett's tapping on "The Musical Box" by Genesis. EVH just refined and popularized it for the rock genre.
Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen changed everything. I wasn't old enough and Randy didn't live long enough for me to ever see him play live. But I did get the chance to see Van Halen live in 91 for the Poundcake tour.
Edward van Halen you were an amazing wiz of a guitar player; an innovator. In 1980 I introduced the VH album to my friends in my little Portuguese village. I purchased it in NYC and brought it over. The 1st time they heard Eruption, we knew you wud make history... & u did. May u rock the angels up above and then RIP.
Ok, A brass and copper pick isn't going to cause cancer, but cigs sure will. Years of booze & other drugs don't exactly slow the process down. And if recording studios caused cancer, we'd have quite a few recording engineers dropping like flies. C'mon, Ed. It was the coffin nails, my friend. I still remember buying the very first Van Halen album when it came out. I brought it over to a friend's house and a bunch of them went... holy f**k! Eddie had tremendous skill and talent, but I lean more towards blues, jazz and rock with more soul/ feeling than a shredding sound. I was into Aerosmith heavily around the time Van Halen debuted... and Hendrix/ Jeff Beck... etc. Still, gotta give him nothing but props for inspiring thousands of guys to pick up an ax and jam their little hearts out. RIP, Sir. 🖒🎸🎶
Although we all lost a guitarist of greatness,Eddie held his own ,living out a pretty full life. He was so beloved. The Internet has blown up with grieving fans ,still making new groups and posting substantially, daily
Let me start by saying RIP Eddie and that I have a ton of respect for the mans talent. Now.... If i hear one more time that he invented finger tapping my heads gonna explode. He perfected his own way of doing it and was a true master but FFS he did not invent it. Tapping existed long before him.

Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are 43 and will turn 44 this year. They are the last of the guitar heroes and even they aren't young anymore.
How old were you in 1980, about 18? So you would be about 58 now? Every year I can feel my body saying "I am going to die someday" and I reply "oh nooooo" bwa ha ha "life's a bitch...and then you die"
IM IN TEARS HE WAS MY IDLE R.I.P YOU'LL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED ROCK ON MAN SAY HI TO HENDRIX

I've met Ed about three times or so . He was such a great dad for his son .... Very nice guy . We've lost a great musician... R.I.P. Ed ...this time, we will take over heaven for the show ! See you over at other side .
We love you Eddie, rest well. 1955-2020.💔
Eddie, you have made so many people happy we will never forget your mark on music. RIP Eddie.
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen we will miss you
For real
Innovator!!!!! How amazing that must be, out of millions of people on this planet, he is ONE of ONE!!!
You failed to mention that Valerie Bertinelli was at his bedside too. There was always a part of me that thought"No matter who Eddie is married to when he dies someday,if Valerie is still alive she will be there because I don't think they ever stopped truly loving each other they just couldn't live with each other".She always seemed like a really sweet, nice person.I'll bet you Eddie would have even agreed.
Correct. They both loved each other, but they just couldn't remain married to each other. They remained good friends and it worked out for them, and especially since they have their son Wolfgang together. Valerie said herself that they'll always love each other even though their marriage didn't work out. Rip Eddie.
i saw Van Halen in 1982 Diver Down tour. I still remember Eddie in a white tuxedo and Roth doing backflips and gymnastics to amaze. he was my inspiration to start learning to play guitar that year, i even made my own frankenguitar.
So nice
The guitar was a part of him it lived and breathed with him🌹an awesome talent 😢RIP🌹🦋
guitar was an extension of his hands, arms, body, mind n soul.....r.i.p.
@@driver4011 the same with Dimebag Darrell. He and EVH are my all time favorite guitar players. Period..

There have been many a guitar masters and virtuosos, but what set Eddie Van Halen apart from the rest of the guitar gods was his incredible innovative abilities. He wasn’t just a guitar genius, he was a guitar revolutionary. His visionary insights and innovative techniques truly transformed the way the rock guitar is played. He will forever be remembered as a guitar immortal. ROCK IN PEACE.
I grew up listening to Van Halen and Eddie’s death gutted me. Happy that he inspired countless to pick up the guitar. RIP EVH....
I was fortunate to grow up listening to Van Halen. There music will live forever. Eddie Van Halen will be miss by many.
This is one thing that makes 2020 even more horrible than it already was... we lost an iconic legend 😭😭
We didn't really lose Eddie. Eddie just went to another place to live.
Phillip Morris will miss him.
I'm glad you didn't say , 'what else can happen this year ?
@@shawnhunt2332 Don't even 😰
I still remember being 3 yrs old and hearing Eddie I can map my life to his music. He was and always will be my guitar hero
I can imagine that Eddie, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoades, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Prince and Chuck Berry are having hell of a jam session right now.
RIP Eddie Van Halen
...Zappa, Holdsworth, Gallagher, etc.
He was so fascinating to watch play his Frankenstein! Loved Eddie for his charm, his stage presence, his sweet smile, and above all his gift as a musician. So sad what he went through and how greatly he'll be missed!
Back in 1978, I was lucky enough to attend a concert at the Chicago Stadium. The feature band was Black Sabath and the opening band was Van Halen. That was the best concert I ever attended and Van Halen was by far much better than Black Sabath. BTW, the ticket price was $5.00
That five dollar ticket would be $500 easy now
Saw the same tour in Milwaukee WI. Van Halen blew away BS!!!
😞 so sad... just a sad day and year. Rip Eddie Van Halen 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼❤️🤟🏼💔💔💔💔He will be missed 💔Love from Austin Tx

I grew up with Van Halen my high school years were a lot fun, thanks again Eddie and Van Halen for the music and the memories
His passing really hurt my heart.

Of the greatest guitar players of all times !!!!!!!!! Heaven is rocking Wright now!!!! R.I.P Eddie!!!! You will be greatly missed!!!!!

@Patriarchy Is Idolatry Man Is Not God Whats your point?
This video says she wasn't?? Who's right??
@@heartwinners410 let's not give her too much credit, she DID choose to cheat on him and then divorce him
hey Ed ,so many thanks to you ....youre melodic vibes are sooo unique ...really one of the biggest gifts to generations of people who love and live the rock n roll music....we love you for ever ....other dimensions are waiting for you .....see ya
Let's not forget: Eddie did not invent the finger-tapping, but he greatly popularized it to a new generation of guitarists. But he remains a household name in the world of guitar and will live to do so. Thank you for all the fabulous music, Eddie.
True... Django Reinhardt, Steve Hackett to name a few who were tapping. What made tapping easier was modern high gain amps and pickups.
@@dbmxerinca yup.
He had an infectious smile...looked like a good guy as well as a HELLUVA guitarist...
Eddie was my hero and I'm still trying to figure out a lot of his music, I've always considered myself his biggest fan because I know for a fact there is no one any bigger of a fan, R.I.P. my old friend.
R.I.P Eddie Van Halen he will always be in my heart. His music will live on forever. He done the greatest guitar solo ever and done the riff for Beat it in just two takes. What a legend man. Such a shame he had to leave us.
I remember him sooo well!! Van Halen's song "JUMP" was my VERY FIRST BATON TWIRLING SONG with our High School Twirling Squad back in 1984. We ALL LOVED that song, it will Always be remembered, and Eddie will be REMEMBERED As FONDLY in my HEART and SOUL for inspiring our groups Very First Performance EVER!! I LOVE YOU EDDIE!! YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER IN MY HEART AND SOUL, and you will always be Visiting me in my dreams, so I can TALK to you!!! I LOVE YOU!!!
Saw Van Halen in Toronto in 1995. The best concert I’ve ever scene! It’s on RUclips. It was like I was in the studio with those guys! Thoughts with his family. 😢
I learned Guitar because of him and admire about his playing. I am Indonesian.... sad and RIP EVH .. I never stop to play your song. You are the greatest guitarist all the time...
EVH FOR LIFE.
My biggest crush since the first time I saw them open for Black Sabbath in Atlanta in 1978, blew them away ! R.I.P. my friend !
Let me fix the title, “What true Van Halen fans knew about Eddie”
Yes!
@Zack hummel Ed told a story about how he was at an airport where Beat It was playing on the overhead speakers and these 2 teens were standing in front of him talking about the currently playing solo saying "that guy's trying to sound like Eddie Van Halen" and Ed tapped em on the shoulder saying "that IS me"
RIP Eddie.
Yeah' I already knew all that.
Long live rock and roll 🎸:: Love you Eddie: You will never be forgotten:::
Gone too soon, I’m absolutely devastated over his passing, he’s one of the best guitarists I ever heard and made me pick up the guitar. I’m sure he’s jamming with Moon and Entwistle and enjoying seeing his Dad again. R.I.P. Eddie.
You don't jam in heaven. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven
There is the word I was looking for. Devastated . I thought 2020 was gonna be my year, the best year !
Too good of a man to die so young. Too big of a legend to ever truly die. The moon and the stars will know his name in time.
I never knew he contributed to Michael Jackson's music. Fascinating. The first money I spent on Van Halen recordings was on the 5150 LP. I never got tired of VH music. RIP! God bless!!
All these years I never knew that either. He was an amazing guitarist.
what? all...2 of you?
Seriously not knowing that was Eddie on "Beat It"??? Good lord.
@@adamr8321 LMAO!! RIP!
If only Hendrix did not join the "27 club" and lived long enough to have met Eddie VH in a studio. hmmmm.?! Hopefully, they met on the other side by now. Wishful thinking admittedly. Peace!
Eddie Van Halen was one of the greatest musician that ever lived. He certainly will be missed. RIP Eddie
You also forgot to mention; his ex-wife Valerie was also at his bedside when he passed. Which I thought was nice too.
At least he was able to live to 65. We have lost so many talented people way too young. You will live on through our stereos Eddie. Rest in peace.
Now he is playing among the Gods in Heavens....RIP Legend \\m//

I cranked that song up on my way home when we were on Rock the House. Now it has a whole new meaning,, RIP Eddie another great artist gone way to soon,,,
RIP Eddie Van Halen.🎸🎵💐😑
HE WAS A GUITAR HERO NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT!!I'M GLAD I GREW UP WITH HIS MUSIC AND BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE!!
I miss him already. It sucks knowing the music is dead.
True
I love and miss him too, but rock and roll has BEEN dead.
I've just made rather cool tribute to Eddie!
Igor Presnyakov Lol 😂
Yes, I grew up in these times, I'm van Halen was a big part of my growing upup. This was a big lost to me and so many others😭
Thank
thanks but no thanks
What a legend, RIP EVH - there will never be another like him. Since Diver Down I was hooked
RIP, Sir. 🖒🎸🎶
I really liked Aerosmith until I watch videos. The super talented lead singer looks like something out of hell. So now I don't like Aerosmith.
No one said there were others famous for doing it. He says he didn't invent it and he didn't
Wow, what a one of a kind guitarist! We have known very few but Eddie is certainly in that tiny group of exceptionally talented folks. Thank you so much for all that you gave of yourself on numerous levels.
It seems that Eddie's death has gone viral, he deserves the love, probably THE greatest guitarist of all time!

I am proud to say, I lived the eddie van halen era, I saw them alive, all happened in my generation.
