Thanks for the great vide0! Verify that 32-bit float comment. My read says it’s 32-bit fixed. The daw can record floating point but if the unit provides fixed point only..that is the limit.
My ears perked when you said that it has an spdif In-N-Out. I have this absolutely ancient PC that I used for recording way back before it was even a thing it has something on it called a live drive with spdif in and out and a really old ancient multitrack recording program on it. As well as some programs to tweak sounds. I could theoretically resurrect that old thing as a standalone unit to create custom sounds.
What have you done? 😂 I was thinking about buying a UAD Volt 476 and almost ordered it, but after watching your video, I’m now considering getting the PreSonus Quantum instead. 🧐
I think you are incorrect on 32-bit float. Records in 32-bit, per Presonus, but I've seen nothing about it being float. Where are you getting that info from?
Hi, there’s one thing I don’t really understand. It says it has only two preamps, but it has four inputs, two for instruments, and two for mikes/line. Can you use more than two of them at the same time, as I need three in most cases (two instruments and one mike, or two mikes and one instrument). Thanks for clarifying.
@@PierreDybman it only has 2 inputs unless you expand it with SPDIF or optical! The 2 front inputs share the same channel as the 2 rear! Does that make sense?
@@ProducingInTheBox It is at least clear, and I find it ridiculous. This means there is a huge gap in price and functionality between the hd2 and the hd8, I hope at some point they will understand that and release an hd4, because I'm not buying the es4 if I can find better. As of today, I'll be checking for an alternative, so they're losing a customer.
Hey all, can the HD2 Interface record 3 Tracks at the same time? Instrument Input 1, and Mic Input 1+2 in parallel. I guess, the question is, can it record 4 Inputs at the same time: Instrument 1+2 and Mic 1+2. thank you very much!
@@andreas_rauscher no! Input 1 and 2 are independent but the front inputs are the same as the back inputs! You CAN expand the interface with SPDIF and optical
As a multi-DAW user (Ableton Live 12, Cubase Pro 13, Reason 12 and Studio One Pro 6.5, all for client-reasons), I've decided to replace my Presonus 1810 (MK1) interface for a Quantum HD2. My favourite DAW as of a while now has been Cubase 13 Pro but let's see what this interface can do for getting me back to Studio One Pro for my main work. I'm very curious about S7, which is about to release, and combining it with the Quantum HD2.
@@rjb7569 Never used Cubase for no particular reason but since clients used it and there was a fantastic deal on it a while ago, bought it. The amount of features (especially MIDI editing-wise) won me over. Now, with Studio One Pro 7 released, I'm going back and forth. Cubase Pro 13 won't be dropped but Studio One Pro 7 is an absolute beast now with many features I'm having a total blast with it. Also, the Quantum HD2 is HIGHLY recommended. What a fantastic interface (and it comes with 12 months Studio One+ and a perpetual Studio One Pro license).
USB C can still run at USB 2.0 speeds which this interface does. It is NOT USB 3 speeds. I learned this the hard way, too, assuming C always meant USB 3. C is just a plug type like A or B, Mini, Micro, etc. All the same it's a great interface and I like mine. I ADAT 8 channels from my Scarlett 18i20 to it, which was a little more complicated than BOTH manufacturers user manuals stated lol, but I figured it out (tell both to sync internally, not just one of them). Even modern smartphones with USB C aren't necessarily 3.0 ;_; the world is awful and full of lies. I never did get loopback working. On my 18i20 loopback just worked. Done. Select it as the input on a track, super easy. On this thing I had to look for some tutorial because I couldn't figure it out. I had to go into the software to enable it, and I still never did get computer audio to be recorded into the DAW after faffing with the Universal Control software. I'd buy it again, but some aspects just aren't user-friendly to me. I did NOT know that Studio One could save gain presets and control the interface this way, that's next-level right there.

@@nafawi7965 nope! From my understanding it’s 32 bit float. It can handle a LOT of fluctuations in audio recording.
Great wee review. I have its big brother, the HD8. Best interfaces we have ever made in my opinion!

That would be amazing!
My advice to you is to get a new PC as well so you can run it with the latest version of Studio One. That's when you'll see the big difference.
Can you do a walk-through video of how to do the re-amping? I'm new to that.
Yeah, there is no video about that matter on the internet.
I also wondered how this would sound when inserting pedals and effects. Having the opportunity to do it stereo is very easy with just a few cables.
What have you done? 😂
