Hey coach, I think you might have missed the point of the Karasuno third-years' former captain crying when expressing how good Daichi has gotten. He's not jealous in any way, in fact he's really just proud at how far his juniors have come. I understand why it could be taken the other way though! Also want to add that he was the most enthusiastic / ambitious of the current third years' senpais.
I feel like in reality it tends to be more of a similar situation to what coach Donny described, not to mention he's encountered it himself before, so I don't blame him for seemingly misunderstanding the intention of the scene. Also too many characters in Haikyu are just too nice! XD
For me it was specially frustrating hearing that, because there are other flashbacks that show he was the only person who was actually wanting to win on the team before suga and company got there. Not everyone can be a shonen protagonist to inspire a team of people who dont take something seriously by force of will.
"Opportunities present themselves to those who have prepared". One of my favorite quotes from Haikyuu. They kept flashing back to the moment Karasuno's previous Captain told Daichi, Suga, and Asahi that he doesn't know if Karasuno will ever be good enough to go back to nationals again but if that opportunity presents itself, they better take it. And now they finally made it to nationals and the two previous team captains get to see it happen.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial I was surprised when you mentioned it right around the end. I have always thought that luck is some unknown random variable but after reading the Soccer Manga entitled "Blue Lock" my perspective changed. There the coach put emphasis on luck as something that we create and increase its probability by experience, instinct, and intuition. Hence, luck is not just about being at the right place at the right time but puttig yourself in the right place at the right time and hopefully the factors outside of your control lines up to the image you have in your head.
@@MrGenetoreve Gonna start reading that ASAP. Thanks for the indirect recommendation 😂. I'm not much of an athlete anymore but these quotes I am passing down to my son and try to be the embodiment of them even if it's not with sports 😅
5:35 Just to clear up the confusion. He was proud of him, not jealous. He was also a hard worker himself though not to the point of daichi ofcourse Edit: No hate towards coach Donny here please, he is a good coach and a good person. It's very easy to miss something like this or misunderstand it. So behave down there in the comments
Yeah, I get the feeling that coach Donny misunderstood a bit, he's not crying and complaining that he wasn't able to reach the same level as his juniors (especially Daichi, being the captain who took over after him) but rather praising him and crying out of pride that his juniors did in fact manage to surpass him and reach a level he never could. Not to mention that they kept the promise of seizing the opportunitiy to once again take Karasuno to nationals! (I'm actually touched over him being so emotional over their success)
The guy in the stands was crying because he was proud of how much Daichi has improved, not because he was jealous. He was Karasuno's team captain when Daichi, Suga, and Asahi were first years. And the guy next to him was team Captain right before Daichi. The flashbacks you kept seeing were from the two previous captains remembering how much everyone has improved. Tanaka especially used to be very impulsively and just hit max force every time but now he actually thinks calmly under pressure and send the ball to annoying spots for the other team to receive.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial hahaha they didn't have coach since Granpa Ukai had just retired so Karasuno didn't really know how to improve during that time. But he was actually the most motivated player on the team.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial There is no indication that he didn't work as hard, in fact he was the one who inspired Karasuno to try despite getting zero practice matches and zero coaching
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial yeah i feel like you got it all wrong, like the previous guys have said. He inspired the team when daichi, asahi, and suga were first years and without a coach. Even the three of those guys look up to him. This is a proud big brother moment to see them all mature and improved, not a petty jealousy
Regarding Azumane's 80% strength serve. I think there is a scene in the manga, that for some reason was left out of the anime, where Coach Ukai instructs Azumane on how to manage his strength at serving by clenching and releasing his fist in order to manage the strength in his muscles. Someone that actually read it can comment on it. I don't know why they left that out but they left in the gesture of Azumane doing the fist clench.
Pretty sure it was just clenching so he could relax and feel more control over his muscles right before serving. It is not real, but rituals are important for feeling confident just like Yamaguchi's reset spot he tries to find.
I think they still make sense. Cool to know that context, though! Idk about the manga, but I do wish the anime had more 1 on 1 moments with coach teaching skills.
Yup, you’re right! I remember seeing something like that in the manga. Coach Ukai suggested the fist clenching routine because it was something that swimmers do to relax their muscles (apparently). Basically, it was so Asahi could relax his nerves and take control over the amount of strength he put in each serve.
The scene at 27:17 where Daichi uses a ‘ancient Japanese volley technique’ this move is called a ‘pokey’ it is generally used in beach volleyball in Japan
5:03 I get why coach hates those types of people but in this scene that person is happy that Daichi got way better than before instead of being jealous.
Worth noting that in the manga, throughout the nationals arc, one of the audience POV characters we got were from a college couple that slowly warm up to becoming fans of Karasuno. They had some cute clips about how they thought Kageyama was a nervous 1st year for messing up at the start of the first set. During the Tsubakihara match, we also had Date Tech watching and scouting out nationals + Karasuno.
i remember watching this skyball service episode and after it i went up to search if its viable and it was super cool to see some done in pro games and it was insane to see how they curve the ball to spin it even more than it shows in haikyuu
Yeah the anime makes it seem like its because of the light or something when I feel like when I read the manga there was a translation of how the ball can change from the air resistance and be unpredictable. Unless I just already knew that and my brain made the connection when I read it lol.
"Mou ippon" is more of a "one more point", as in "go out and score one more". Not sure if you caught it, but the flashback with Tanaka was really well-placed: they're showcasing that he used to just go for a strong spike whenever he had a chance to hit the ball, not thinking much, but in this game he thought carefully about how to handle the last touch and returned it to a very uncomfortable spot for the other team, forcing the player to quickly jump back. Also, at 20:00, please appreciate Suga's amazing mimicking techniques :"D I just noticed that the animators actually animated Tsukishima's mouth moving to speak, but Suga beat him to it xD
Not sure if people have said, but next episode (Episode 12) has a post-ending scene that is not a preview! I know you don't want spoilers or previews of the next episode, but Episode 13 actually picks up right where the post-credit scene ends, so you may be a little confused if you miss it! Just a heads up!
I love the detail at 28:20 when Suga pointed to the right (as a feint) and then set to the left!!! And also Kageyama commenting that the set was perfect!!! AGGHHH So awesome!! Haikyu's final point animations are always so gooddd. everything just flows together so nicely.
This entire match was basically the third years arc. Shimizu and her manager role, and Suga, Daichi, and Asahi’s history with the previous senior Karasuno players and how they were the third year batch who were able to help bring Karasuno back to nationals.
I don't know if you noticed coach, but on min 28:20 Sugawara actually pointed his finger to the right but tossed to the left. It was so quick, but when I realized that he did it in order to confuse the other team players it was so cool for me, it was so fast and so small but yet there it is!
just noting here too that Suga's set to Tanaka was deemed "perfect" from Kageyama who is all about precision setting. That's really high praise from Kageyama to Suga especially since he was just subbed in and is setting from the right back row. to set a perfect set to the left is really amazing for someone that is supposed to just be a backup setter. :)
Coach, I think you don't understand the former Karasuno player very well, he trained and dedicated himself, he was one of those who passed the mentality on to the third years, and all that crying and memories were comparing their evolution. His generation at Karasuno was the one that didn't have help, no coach and everything, so when he says to take chances, it's to take what comes and run after, not that he hasn't done it. I think it's an important point, because with the wrong understanding of the character, it completely changes the same. Sorry for the English. Hugs from Brazil
All High School matches in Japan go three sets. Only the actual championship game goes five sets. There is also a lot of symbolism in having the 3 third years on the court at the end of this match, as when they were first years that was the goal of the Karasuno team - to win at nationals. Those two in the audience were the captains when the current third years were first years and second years.
And to have Asahi finish it off was even cooler since (apparently) he hadn't scored the winning point of a match ever since the first match with dateko.
14:30 he doesn't piss that Tsuki took his set,he just feel little bit a awkward about praising Tsuki with that good set.Kageyama just have a problem with communication,he's not an introvert.
15:37 istg i love how season 4 got the commentators cause i can imagine how hype it would be like in real life (watching from the television) and the way they said "hinata shoyo" hypes me up!!! there are random times that i would imitate them and say "hinata shoyooo" hahaha
5:35 Westerner moment for Coach. There was no jealousy there, those are tears of joy. I think the Senpai/Kohai culture leads to this almost brotherly bond with respect that is quite different than in the west. Old Captain just wasn't the guy. Also let's face it, without Hinata and Kageyama, Karasuno would not get past Shiratorizawa nor even Aoba Johsai.
Mmmm coach, at the 5:35 mark, where that dude is saying Sawamura got really good, he is actually proud, not jealous or mad. He loved that he is so good, and has a good team now. He was in Karasuno before, but they never had a team as dedicated as this one
Also to point out in that last rally, there was a moment when Suga ran up, his right hand was pointing away from him, almost as if he's making a sign for another attack strategy. There was also Tanaka's slight head shake in frustration that his spike wasn't strong enough. Things like that make me feel that the rally becomes more alive with those little details.
I really love how they show Suga in this episode. He only comes in for the final point but it shows how much he does for the team when he is played. He's done his research and knows exactly what he needs to do to best support the team against each of the opposition. He purposefully gives them a nasty serve, forcing them into Teradomari who can be easily picked up by Daichi on the floor, sets to Tanaka to allow for the cross shot and he purposefully backs up when Maruyama comes in for the wipe so he can reach it to keep it in.
That touch from Sawamura where he saved Tsukki's miss, is actually a tech used in beach volleyball, where you can't dump the ball with an open hand, so you have to close it und used your fingertips or the nuckles of your fingers. I'm sure the animators actually wanted to have him hit it with his whole fist but it just looked weird.
You misread the guy who said " sawamura became so good". He was the old captain who was the only guy who worked hard when karasuna was bad . He was happy that daichi became a great player now.
This was one of the episode I looove this season. Here, we saw a glimpse of Hinata's growth and what he has learned from the training camp (11:10) aside from his surprising receive on their practice match from the prior episodes. Even though it's clumsy, you can feel how it's not just a fluke but he actually positioned himself there, a sign of his improving receives. Don't mind me being an emotional parent over Hinata 😭✋
Coach, the new half time clips are actually the players shown as their school mascot. For example - when they show the struggling crow it had the same orange hair as Hinata. I really like this symbolism. Though I agree that the earlier halftimes were better. Also, I think you missed Suga mimicking Tsuki at 19:59 😂😂
I appreciated your comments about forgiving yourself and being able to move on and help the team. This is something that I definitely need to work in because I have been struggling with. I hate doing bad because I feel like I'm letting everyone else down.
Suga is my fave boi and I'm so proud of him. He has such a big impact on his team both on amd off the court. I do appreciate hearing your story about people who get jealous of someone who worked harder to get better since it's something I've seen too, but in this case it was just Karasuno's former captain getting emotional seeing the growth of his juniors. As far as I can remember they really did the best they could with what they had. They didn't get the same opportunities (two great coaches, practice matches with other schools, training camps etc.) that the new Karasuno team has had this year. They worked with what they got and that just wasn't enough realistically to get them to nationals. And that was their dream. Sure there's always improving to be done with an individual player but if someone (or a whole team) doesn't have the resources to achieve the dream they had originally sought, I really can't get angry at them for not pouring all of their time and energy into it while knowing it won't amount to anything
I think coach misinterpreted why the former karasuno captain was crying. 😁 He's happy for Daichi cause he become so good. He's proud to what the 3rd years (Daichi, Suga,Asahi) has accomplished.
At 17:04 you said to bring Yamaguchi back in, but the way their rules are, they get one sub in and out for each player per set. So Hinata got subbed out for Yamaguchi, then subbed back in. So Yamaguchi can't be used again, and Hinata can't be subbed out. Yama is usually the Hinata pinch server and Suga is usually the Tsukki pinch server, now Kenoshita occasionally as well instead.
i love how we get to see tanaka working on that tight cross ever since he saw bokuto doing it, there have been scenes where he has been practicing and perfecting it, to use now at nationals.
I decided to finally try indoor volleyball out and joined a local rec at 24 this year. My first game was today and it was a blast! Despite flubbing the game winning point. (No deuces in my leagues). Thanks for inspiring me to try it out!
I think you didn't get why hinata could save some balls by 10:55 to 12:00. Hinata being a ball boy made him read better but did not practice the receive. That's why he was always there but never did a great pass
i gotta clarify something, at 5:03 the crying guy is sawamura's upper classman, when sawamura first joined the team that guy was at his last year so the last time he saw sawamura was when he was kind of a beginner even though he played in middleschool, so when he says you are so good now, he actually means how consistent and stable his game has become, so he is shedding tears of joy, and he is proud of sawamura.
Hey Coach, I just wanted to thank you! Watching your content really inspired me to play volleyball. I was debating playing for a while but when I watched your Haikyuu videos last year, it inspired me to join a beginner's club near me. From that class I was asked to join the women's team that they run, your tips really helped with my playing and I can not thank you enough.
I love the fact that you're getting more and more relaxed in front of the camera some of your reactions are priceless when you make fun of things doing references and all. Every time I go playing I wish you'd coach me. Thank you.
Hey coach! Is the screen capture of the episode purposely off centered now to avoid copyright? Also I love the new set up for the room! Black curtains much better and clearer to see the episode capture.
It almost looks like he got a bigger monitor but forgot to update his capture settings to reflect it and by the time they realized it was too late to fix
Eek, yeah, it was super distracting how the subtitles would cutoff or not show up sometimes :| And some trouble with focusing properly. It looks like everything was zoomed in more than intended?
Their former captain was taking their training seriously, it's just that when Ukai Sr. was hospitalized, they were not able to get much practice matches, nor have a proper coach. Loving the reactions tho!
i love coach's reaction when suga appeared!! i really love seeing him play! His plays are always clean and you can see how even though it's his first time at nationals but he set tanaka perfectly (even kageyama said it was perfect) also coach I think you didn't catch that but karasuno just WON the match not just the set so they get to stay in the tournament!
Not sure if you noticed, 'cause you were talking there, but Kinoshita (the one time server) might've been thinking about positive stuff after his failed serve, but his pinched outward expression betrays his actual thoughts on it (not satisfied at all, wanting to be better). And then Couch Ukai, when he saw his face, thought "That's right. Be ambitious." with a smile, because in a past episode Kinoshita hid behind his teammates before he got called out by Couch Ukai. So that obvious frustration is seen as a step up.
7:03 animators makes the drawing simple when there is comedy in the scene. So those simple or rough drawing during Hinata and Kageyama arguing is totally intentional :)
Just a slight comment on the video, it's a little bothersome that the captions are sometimes cut off on the left. I'd guess you/editor are already aware, but just in case. Great analysis as always.
@@AllTheArtsy maybe he got copyright when he was going to upload it in the center for this reaction. Beforr you upload the reaction on the day that you want, you can upload it privately and it will show if it gets a copyright strike or not
@@naylisyazwina6836 if it's like you said, then that means they had to have edited and uploaded an entirely different video. i think they did the un-centered screen capture by choice to be proactive, that's fine. but we're saying to crop out the captions, and do a separate one where the captions still centered.
Hey coach! I wanted to clarify some things animation wise since I work in the western TV animation industry. One animator is usually not going to animate a whole episode. Pipeline wise, that would simply take too long. Instead, with studios like Production IG, they assign anywhere from 15-50 animators (sometimes more/less depending on the demands of a season) several shots to animate. Some episodes have more shots than others but 350-500 shots per 23 minutes is pretty standard. So whenever you see the camera make a cut like you mentioned in the video, another animator is animating that shot. It’s up to the director and production to make sure the quality remains consistent between shots. However, since some shots aren’t a priority due to time restrictions with productions, you’ll sometimes get one shot that’s a little wonky and another shot(thats really important to the story and the director wanted to prioritize) that’s super well done. Hope that wasn’t too long but not many people know how the sausage is made in my industry and I wanted to share my two cents. Haikyuu is such a big show and sometimes I feel bad for the animators with how hard people are on season 4.
Delayed response but hard agree on your last point. I honestly feel like Season 4 has some of the best animation across the entire anime, but so many people get worked up about the bad bits (and really, there aren't many) that it just becomes "season 4 animation is trash". There's a global pandemic going people, be grateful we even got a full Season 4! 😅
@@ohheyfiona yeah I’m very grateful they were able to meet the deadlines at all. Everyone in animation has been working so hard and pretending things are “normal” despite everything. I also recall that the directors changed for this season so a lot of adjustments had to be made.
I had a hard day at work and decided to watch your reaction. Your quote about forgiving yourself after making a mistake was a welcome piece of advice. You really helped me think through my perspective on my mistake. Thanks for your advice, it really helped me out.
Even though I have no clue about drawing and animation, I still notice that something is weird in the frame. I just can't pinpoint why exactly but after hearing your explanations like the proportions being off or some shadows and folds missing, I now can :D
Man, when I first started to look at coaches reaction it was like "Oh, looks fun to see how realistic the volley strats are, lets see" and it turns out he has animation experience as well. No over-reactions, no fake stuff. Just plain enjoyment of the anime and inside on irl volley
I wouldn't say I notice all the details you point out with any specificity, but even without an eye for illustration, small qualities dips can add up. Even if you don't consciously notice them, they can contribute to something feeling "flat", or "off", or "cheap".
He wasnt being an ass about it Coach, he was actually proud of him as his senpai and how much he's grown throughout his high school years. You saw later on what was going on with the backstory and why they were there. Also coach, Suga was mimicking him but its not like Tsuki is actually tired. A bit more of comedic timing from someone other than Hinata.
Coach I’m pretty sure Daichi’s former captain is happy for him and crying out of that happiness. He’s not bitter Daichi is better than he ever was he’s ecstatic that his junior kept at it and pulled out of their school’s slump
The skyball server isn't just a rookie first year, its his official match ever... put in a pinch server in the first game of the biggest tournament of the year. Super nervous. For Asahi's --% power thing, its about dialing in his power on the serves. In the manga they go into more detail but not for a while. Haikyuu loves to set things up so I'm sure they will have it down the road.
the guys at 5:23 are Dachi, Suga, and Ashahi’s old captains, which is why the one guy was crying and they were part of the flashbacks. He’s crying so much cause he’s so proud of how much they’ve grown and being able to whiteness them take on nationals.
The quote for the pinch server is one of my favourite quote from haikyuu!! "Is not the team that will not forgive you for your mistakes, it's yourself" for someone who always overthink like me, that quote resonate so much. Another thing is that, for this tournament there will be only be best out of 3 unless it is the final match.
The hair dyeing thing with Tanaka comes from the fact usually you're considered a "thug" if you dye your hair in high school in Japan which is most likely why he stopped
This match was refreshing cause up to this point when we saw a match from the opposing teams perspective, it was a weak team who was crushed quickly. In this case, Tsubakihara is just another good team trying to win a national level game.
Haikyuu helped to show me my bad sports experience isn't just because of my performance, but also because of my team. Also what true sportmanship is on and off the court. Good teammates lift each other up. There is no fear because you're all in this together.
25:00 you got it right. "Mou ikkai" means "one more time," while "mou ippon" means "one more hit/serve" (it can also mean a few other non-volleyball related things)
coach the students who were watching them from the stands were the previous team captains for karasuno the one that cries was captain during suga daichi and asahi first year and the other one during tanaka and nishinoya first year. you met them in daichi sugawara and asahis backstory in season 3.
In terms of all the teammates being very good: it is the top tier of high school competition. I think you’d naturally expect any team that makes it to have great chemistry (or at least overwhelming talent, which you may or may not also get to see 😌).
Their old karasuno captain was a hard worker. He was one of the only guys who wanted to club to succeed back in the day and want to actually put in the work
From the 2 Karasuno alumni in the stands, the one in the grey shirt is the most recent Captain (when Daichi was second year) and the one in the red jacket is the previous Captain (when Daichi was first year). He was actually the one most motivated to improve Karasuno after the little giant when they had little resources, and actually made an appearance in S3E6 where he said the exact same words, "if you ever get a chance, make sure you grab it." He's just happy to see his juniors improve so much and bring Karasuno to a state that he himself strived to achieve.
WOWWW COACH!!! the video JUST started and the quality is phenomenal!!! thank you for always working so hard to make these videos, every effort is sincerely appreciated, wishing you the best from texas!
I understand coach calling the former teammates lazy but that's not taking into account what they had to deal with at all. Sometimes you only have so much fight in you and when you live through losing your coach and your practice team connections that will to fight can be demolished. The current third years didn't have to experience the high of the powerhouse team and the team falling apart like their upperclassmen did. The former teammates were heartbroken and couldn't recover
Haikyuu from Day 1: just because you work hard and have talent doesn't always mean you get the win Coach Donny: nah, if you didn't make it to nationals despite having to be coach and captain, you just weren't trying hard enough and aren't allowed to be proud the juniors you tried to help are succeeding. I really hope he's just forgotten the flashbacks in s3 where he seemed to appreciate the former captains or got them mixed up with Ikejiri who was Daichi's former teammate and didn't try, because if not this is a really bad take. Especially since people have explained it in the comments and he's doubled down on it in response.
I'm feeling bad for the old classmate that coach dislikes. He wasn't lazy, he was a kid that tried his best without a coach, with only an assistant teacher that was on the team just on paper so they could keep the club going (not Takeda), and the team kept getting defeated no matter how hard they worked. By the end of his three years (when Daichi and co. join the team), he's just defeated. And still on his goodbye to the team he inspires them to not give up, to keep trying. Not every kid has the energy to keep going without support.
24:55 mo it kai = 한 회 더 = one more time mo it bon = 한 번 더 = one more time 회, 번 is counting but used in different situations, but in this kind of sports game usually mo it bon is more likely what people might say. If I had one more chance to hit the ball = mo it kai Do that nice serve one more time = mo it bon Hope this helps
japanese has a very complicated system of counting, where you have the number + a suffix that depends on the object/thing you are counting. in the case of ippon/ikkai, you have the i that comes from ichi, one, and then the different suffixes -pon and -kai. to generalize, ikkai will mean one more time, where ippon will mean one more serve. in english it comes to the same thing since there is no distinction in modern informal speech.
I think you're underestimating how big anime production teams are. Usually each animator will handle 1-2 scenes in an episode, depending on the level of detail that the director wants in each scene. The more scenes each animator has to handle, the longer the show needs to be in preproduction, and generally anime studios are releasing multiple anime a year, or multiple anime a season for the bigger studios.
Hey coach, I think you might have missed the point of the Karasuno third-years' former captain crying when expressing how good Daichi has gotten. He's not jealous in any way, in fact he's really just proud at how far his juniors have come. I understand why it could be taken the other way though! Yeah, I think the former captain there should be seen more as a proud parent rather than an envious ex-teammate
For me it was specially frustrating hearing that, because there are other flashbacks that show he was the only person who was actually wanting to win on the team before suga and company got there. Not everyone can be a shonen protagonist to inspire a team of people who dont take something seriously by force of will.

Regarding Azumane's 80% strength serve. @@ERACLAB Right, but the scenes in which Asahi "checks his strength" make no sense without the context of him discussing with Coach Ukai about it.
I think they still make sense. Cool to know that context, though! Idk about the manga, but I do wish the anime had more 1 on 1 moments with coach teaching skills.
if i remember correctly they included it in the part 2 season 4 but i forgot which episode.
People are just way too nice in haikyuu it can become uncanny sometimes 😂
He misunderstood that scene and thought that the Alumni is crying because he isnt as good as Sawamura due to his lack of practice.
It really stings because that guy was the hardest worker of his generation, but coach kept picking on him for not working harder.
Coach, as a heads up there is an after credits scene in episode 12! Don't forget to watch it!
up you go, so coach Donny can see this
Up 😌
You gotta say, “bump,” it’s a volleyball channel

"For a moment, I was playing at less than superhuman levels. My apologies."
-Kageyama basically
Yes! To quote Ushijima quoting Tendo, I'm getting excited for all these episodes!
Worth noting that in the manga, throughout the nationals arc, one of the audience POV characters we got were from a college couple that slowly warm up to becoming fans of Karasuno. They had some cute clips about how they thought Kageyama was a nervous 1st year for messing up at the start of the first set. During the Tsubakihara match, we also had Date Tech watching and scouting out nationals + Karasuno.
i remember watching this skyball service episode and after it i went up to search if its viable and it was super cool to see some done in pro games and it was insane to see how they curve the ball to spin it even more than it shows in haikyuu
the sky ball in indoor even still remains a dead serve but if you ever play beach the ball bite so much it is crazy
Lmao of all channels I didn't expect to see here, this wasn't last on the list but still pretty high. Lmao nice compilations btw
love ur comps
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial it showed how tanaka was a lot like “mad dog” from aoba johsai back in the days. Small little details!
Mou ippon is also a short way of saying the phrase, "mou ippointo" which is a Japa-nglish phrase "mou i point o" = "another point"
@@soro8371 "pon" is not a shortened word for "point". "pon" is a counter word (like "a piece of~~").
Yep, "mou ikkai" is just "one more time", while "mou ippon" uses counter word for long things and I guess it refers to one hit/path of the ball
@@7037-h1h I think it comes from martial arts like judo or karate, where they call "ippon" to the points.
Not sure if people have said, but next episode (Episode 12) has a post-ending scene that is not a preview! I know you don't want spoilers or previews of the next episode, but Episode 13 actually picks up right where the post-credit scene ends, so you may be a little confused if you miss it! Just a heads up!

Damn yeah hope he sees this one
At 5:45 I think you misunderstood. Dude is crying because he is happy that his junior got so much better. Not jealous.
The older palyer from karasuno was crying because he was proud not jealous I think
just noting here too that Suga's set to Tanaka was deemed "perfect" from Kageyama who is all about precision setting. That's really high praise from Kageyama to Suga especially since he was just subbed in and is setting from the right back row. to set a perfect set to the left is really amazing for someone that is supposed to just be a backup setter. :)
"Opportunities present themselves to those who have prepared."
dang, HQ quotes sure hit differently
Coach, I think you don't understand the former Karasuno player very well, he trained and dedicated himself, he was one of those who passed the mentality on to the third years, and all that crying and memories were comparing their evolution. His generation at Karasuno was the one that didn't have help, no coach and everything, so when he says to take chances, it's to take what comes and run after, not that he hasn't done it. I think it's an important point, because with the wrong understanding of the character, it completely changes the same. Sorry for the English. Hugs from Brazil
I think he mistook him for the other diacritics friend
Yeah I loved the addition of the official commentary. Added even more stakes and hype to the scenario.
I’m actually so happy for the the guy serving on the other team he redeemed himself and had his moment to shine!
24:47 He said “mou ippon(one more point or one more serve)”.
On the other hand, “mou ikkai” means one more time.
So either is fine!
Daiichi/Sawamura's seniors were crying tears of joy/pride at how good he became, not regret or envy.
24:54
mou ippon is another one
mou ikkai is one more time
mou ichido is once more
Hey Coach,
I just wanted to thank you!
Thank you.
please rewatch the flashbacks from this episode
Hey coach! Is the screen capture of the episode purposely off centered now to avoid copyright? Also I love the new set up for the room! Black curtains much better and clearer to see the episode capture.
It would be so much better if the subtitles were cut out properly. I don't mind the off center screen as much as the subtitles being cut off
I completely agree
It almost looks like he got a bigger monitor but forgot to update his capture settings to reflect it and by the time they realized it was too late to fix
Hopefully it’s fixed next ep🤞🏼 it’s super distracting
Eek, yeah, it was super distracting how the subtitles would cutoff or not show up sometimes :| And some trouble with focusing properly. It looks like everything was zoomed in more than intended?
謝謝!
Curious what your thoughts are on the Season 5 announcement
Coach at this stage of the tournament games are "best of 3"
Their former captain was taking their training seriously, it's just that when Ukai Sr. was hospitalized, they were not able to get much practice matches, nor have a proper coach.
Coach! Thanks for making me look forward to every week and these makes my days way better
I’m pretty sure the upperclassmen is proud of the third years instead of being jealous.
7:03 animators makes the drawing simple when there is comedy in the scene. So those simple or rough drawing during Hinata and Kageyama arguing is totally intentional :)
He acts like he knows everything
@@hourbit7385 He does not if you watch his all reaction videos;)
After that coach's back story at 5:35, I can't help but to be impatient for the moment he will discover Kita. The character personnally blew my mind !
Just a slight comment on the video, it's a little bothersome that the captions are sometimes cut off on the left. I'd guess you/editor are already aware, but just in case.
Great analysis as always.
Yeah. Avoid copyright claims with screen capture shenanigans, but keep the captions centered
Thank you for the video that we your community get to enjoy 🙌
Even if you don't consciously notice them, they can contribute to something feeling "flat", or "off", or "cheap".
exactly
He wasnt being an ass about it Coach, he was actually proud of him as his senpai and how much he's grown throughout his high school years. You saw later on what was going on with the backstory and why they were there.
Also coach, Suga was mimicking him but its not like Tsuki is actually tired. A bit more of comedic timing from someone other than Hinata.
I really like the other team. They have nice personalities and they're all supportive.
The rooms really coming together :)
In this case, Tsubakihara is just another good team trying to win a national level game.
if it's the one where they jump it's my favorite too (not trying to be ironic, just don't want to spoil it)
Haikyuu helped to show me my bad sports experience isn't just because of my performance, but also because of my team.
Am I the only one who thinks the video is more focused on the right part?
And so the volleyball monsters will make their entrance coach Donny is gonna fall in love with haikyuu even more now
donny you completely missed the point of the crying - he was crying because of how proud he was of daichi from when he knew him.
Suga 🥰
He’s probably my favorite character in Haikyuu 100%
coach the students who were watching them from the stands were the previous team captains for karasuno the one that cries was captain during suga daichi and asahi first year and the other one during tanaka and nishinoya first year. you met them in daichi sugawara and asahis backstory in season 3.
In terms of all the teammates being very good: it is the top tier of high school competition. I think you’d naturally expect any team that makes it to have great chemistry (or at least overwhelming talent, which you may or may not also get to see 😌).
Their old karasuno captain was a hard worker. He was one of the only guys who wanted to club to succeed back in the day and want to actually put in the work
love the ambient lighting
Love the Ted Lasso edit in the beggining. That would actually be another great show for coach Donny to react to.
Haikyuu from Day 1: just because you work hard and have talent doesn't always mean you get the win
Coach Donny: nah, if you didn't make it to nationals despite having to be coach and captain, you just weren't trying hard enough and aren't allowed to be proud the juniors you tried to help are succeeding.
Episode 12 is probably one of my favorite in the entire series for animation, excited to see your reaction next week too!
24:55 mo it kai = 한 회 더 = one more time
mo it bon = 한 번 더 = one more time
회, 번 is counting but used in different situations, but in this kind of sports game usually mo it bon is more likely what people might say.
If I had one more chance to hit the ball = mo it kai
Do that nice serve one more time = mo it bon
Hope this helps
japanese has a very complicated system of counting, where you have the number + a suffix that depends on the object/thing you are counting. in the case of ippon/ikkai, you have the i that comes from ichi, one, and then the different suffixes -pon and -kai. to generalize, ikkai will mean one more time, where ippon will mean one more serve. in english it comes to the same thing since there is no distinction in modern informal speech.
You used the same example of the USA men’s middle having to set as my coach did at the start of my season
As a Brazilian I really enjoy when you mention the national team or players.
editor-san, glad you worked out the issue with the comments 👍 it looks great now
but what happened to the video ratio? cut off subtitles?
Love the evolution of the studio/quality!
Was literally thinking about Ted Lasso when Coach Donny was talking about coaching and they edited a clip of him in. Editing is on point!
