Yamato was actually supposed to face US battleships during Ten-go, Admiral Spruance wanted her destroyed as such. What happened was that Admiral Mitscher knew this (as Spruance was a supporter of the battleships over the carriers) and wanted to put the final nail in the coffin in order to prove the obsolescence of battleships, avoiding a climatic BB v BB engagement which could've lengthened use and investment in battleships. And so, Mitscher ordered his carrier planes to attack Yamato, and didn't tell Spruance until they were well on their way, knowing that Spruance would order him to stand down if he told him beforehand, but wouldn't order them back if they were en route. And the rest is history.
In Leyte Golf, if Halsey didn't take Task Force 34's battleships (Iowa's and South Dakota's) with him to attack the carriers, they would have caught Yamato instead of Taffy 3. THAT would have been the greatest battleship fight ever....
Paulo Kim Brillantes that was the whole problem with the IJN approach. They used their carriers and battleships “separately” when they needed to be used together. At Midway, if the IJN loaded their carriers with more fighters and provided CAP for the Yamato which could have shelled Midway Island then things could have turned out a lot different. The Yamato itself may have drawn US planes towards her and this would have given the IJN carriers more breathing room.
The shells cause flooding but it adds to the normal damage and is minor flooding. Its not really part of the game as there isn't a prompt saying it has happened it is just tallied to your damage per hit. A leek and small compartment flooding isn't much. But major flooding is, which is what torpedoes do, the sheer size of the hole cause by a torpedo is going to do lots.

I still think Yamato's secondary 6.1" (or 15.5cm/60) should be turned over to player control. It makes up for the fact the AI can't aim secondaries for shit and leave the AI guns to control the 25mm AA guns and 12.7cm/40 secondary batteries. That way Yamato could actually not get raped by a Gearing or Shimakaze that sneaks up on them and not have to painfully wait 30secs for the main batteries to slowly reload.
+Trades46 Especially since Destroyers have magic speed torpedoes that auto-replenish, the BBs should at least be able to defend itself with the guns that are larger then most destroyer and cruisers have, and that were designed to effectively repel smaller ships. Destroyers should act like assassins and escorts, not the arbitrary paper to BB's rock. It strains credulity to to see Destroyers bum rush a Battleship, take 3-4 hits with a BB main guns, and still operate like normal and spam torpedoes. I'd bet most of the destroyer's equipment/weapons would be permanently disabled after taking a 14in high explosive round to the deck. It's disappointing to see that destroyers don't even need tactics to take out a BB, they can just sail up to point black range and launch torpedoes.
ltflak I think DDs are the weakest class of all in WoWs; if you don't play them a certain manner they are relatively useless in a battle. But that's another story. The problem is BBs are currently really susceptible to DD rushes and are nearly powerless in stopping them from releasing a death spread of torps (this is most prominent with DDs that can fire >8 torps at once against
Trades46 I'm speaking from experience from playing Battlestations: Pacific. Ships like the Fuso, with it's massive array of guns is highly effective at repelling smaller ships, smothering destroyers in secondary fire. In that game, the Fuso's chief weakness was it's pathetic anti-air and slow speed. So it's so weird to see a ship with so many guns helpless against a small ship that's barely armed. While I don't think it's entirely necessary for manual control (but it would make Battleships more action packed) the current accuracy of the AI is just comical, secondary guns seem to fire, merely to look cool, whilst only tickling the enemy. For that matter, I also think it's silly that duel-purpose guns operate by cooldown based ability. I feel like anti-air should be the 3rd ammo type, that once loaded, can devastate air targets, but cannot target ground targets.. Even the mighty 18.1 inch Yamato guns could fire beehive AA rounds at planes for devastating effect.
ltflak Please forget anything about the Type 3 Sanshiki beehive rounds. Kancolle may tell you otherwise, but in reality it was more a glorified fireworks display than an actual weapon. Frankly it did more damage to the gun's barrels than it did the planes it was shoot it. Again I imagine this is for game balancing issues (I have BS:P as well and the Fuso is overpowered to say the least; it always manages to kill a SoDak which in reality I'd doubt it) but I wished BBs would get some decent defense against rush attacks as their main battery reload time limits what they they can do to retaliate.
"the shell is tooooooooo stonk so it just goes through." never mind the in-fucking-sane amounts of kinetic energy being slammed into that destroyer that would ruin its keel and structure.
@battleshipfleet Battle of Samar? No. Ok then. Johnston took 3 18.1in hits and only lost half of her engine power but still combat capable while a 6.1in shell hit the bridge destroying that part.
Shinano was Launched and died Musashi went to battle once and died without ever encountering a hostile surface vessel Yamato fired on enemy Ships once in her career, sinking an escort carrier and a destroyer, and then was killed to death when she bonzai charged into the enemy.
To be fair she isn't really a bad ship, she can do good if you angle her properly, but when she gets put in tier X matches she struggles. Just think of her as a dunkerque that can actually take hits. or an Iowa with the rear turret placed in the front. Which actually gives her less of a broadside profile when she has all guns to bear.
@@flallana18 For note if you watched of what happen to bismark at her final battle it most some of it are a bit as same of yamato sinking ruclips.net/video/J3I0VQ2A_fs/видео.html
I know the game has changed a lot, and I just unlocked this ship 2 months ago after the German bbs were added. I think this is my favorite ship to play. If I had any advice to give anyone who just got this ship, this would probably be it. 1, never go off by yourself, especially if there are cvs in the team line up. 2, don't charge in "gun-ho" during the first half of the game. If you try to push at the start, more often than not instead of helping you, the team will hide behind you and let you get torped or burned to death. You don't want to go off alone because your AA suite isn't very good at all. You really need to be around cruisers "like the Des Moines" which "eat carrier planes." Yes, she is a stupidly powerful ship, but shes far from invincible and needs a good team supporting her.
Donald Stinnett how long did it take you to unlock the yamato? I'm currently playing with the us battleships and in one and a half days I unlocked the Wyoming, I'm trying to get to the uss montana. just want an idea on how long i should expect to unlock it
It would depend on a few factors. How often do you play? Are you willing to spend money on the game and if so how much? With what I did, it took me just over 4 months to acquire her. I actually ground out the USN and IJN bb lines at the same time "sort of." At tiers 5-7 the IJN ships are way better at doing a BB's job than the USN. However, I wanted the NC and the Iowa to be my first higher tier ships, since they are a lot more "noob" friendly and were just overall easier to play than the Amagi and the "Shitzumo" for sure! I actually did something you and a lot of folks may find "really dumb." The Yamato was literally the only reason why I started playing this game. I've had a long fascination with the Yamato class bbs and she was the one ship I just had my heart set on playing. Once I had my Iowa and Amagi fully upgraded, I started playing my Tirpitz and other gold ships non stop until I had enough free xp to skip the Izumo and unlock Yamato. In total it was about $150.00 worth of doubloons to unlock everything on Izumo, unlock Yamato, and convert the credits to buy her. I then decided I wanted Montana to be my next tier 10 so I ground her xp out on Iowa and got her the "legit" way. The higher up you go in tiers, the more xp each ship and its modules cost to research and the more expensive it becomes to purchase those ships and their upgrades. Yamato takes about 250k xp to research and something between 17-18 million credits to buy and about 5 million more to put on upgrades. So again, It would really depend on how fast and how badly you want a particular ship. In my case, I just had to have Yamato so I was dumb enough to spend $150.00 on her.
Donald Stinnett I play pretty much everyday for 4 hours straight, sometimes even more. I was thinking of getting premium later on just to get more xp per battle. my average per battle is about 500 xp. looks like its going to take me a really long time :(
Its actually very frustrating to play tier 10 most of the time. As I said in my original post, Yamato depends on a good team for success. While very powerful, she is quite vulnerable if left to fend for herself especially if there are CVs in the game or a lot of dds. Honestly though if you're already doing the USN line ,Id say just keep going down it. After you get past the New Mexico you get to play some really good ships. When you get the NC at tier 8, you're getting the best tier 8 bb in the game! She's a great ship fresh out of the box albeit a little slow. She has great armor, amazing guns, and good speed once you get the propulsion upgrade. The best thing is she will teach you how you should be playing top tier bbs. Unlike the Amagi, a NC can not only rule games where she's top tier, but she can do very well in tier 10 games indeed! Heres a crazy fact for you: Once you have the fire control upgrade on the NC, if you have a plotting room fitted, your firing range will be 27.1km!! This means that you will OUTRANGE YAMATO BY ABOUT 1KM IN A TIER 8 BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Donald Stinnett well, it looks like I'm staying with the usn line lol. after i get the uss montana I might try to unlock the yamato. well, thanks for your help!
yamato was destroyed by 400 aircraft in two hours? the us must be coward during world war II ,(NO OFFENCE TO US CITIZENS)but stil it was durable to hold off for two hours, thats a brave ship i see.
The US were not cowards. you do realize it took the waves of planes to get to the Yamato 30 minutes? the CVs had to be far enough out of range so the Yamato didn't pulverize them. If the US were cowards, they would of not even joined the war. I would like to see the outcome of the war if US still didn't join. A lot of us would be speaking Japanese or German, that's for sure.
+MrThePrivateer I don't think you realize that the Western Front were getting their asses handed to them by the Germans. They could withstand 2 fronts if the Americans didn't join. Japan could also hit Russia on their East side to where they are surrounded. So... yeah, US really are the ones who helped the Western Front. Russia? They were pushing hard, but wouldnt be able to push much if Japan went to war with them also.
Saladin1187 There is a small chance, like in real life, of a magazine detonation by torpedo. RnG happened then as it does now. For us that have endured this it is called the "Golden BB" principle.
+Trades46 well to be fair Hms hood was never designed to face such heavy fire. Bismarck's shots would have quite literally ripped through the armour like it was toilet paper.
Mehul Kapur Yes that is true (that's what the RN gets by using a Battlecruiser in a straight up brawl). However my point it, regardless of the amount of armor on any ship, a well-placed shot with the RNG god on your side will OHKO any warship.
"Side armour of ~410mm"... that is completely ignored by HE mechanics "The Emperor doesn't pay attention to the annoyance of small destroyers and cruisers"... except when they're launching torpedoes and HE at you while well within the range of your secondaries which are completely and utterly ineffective "When the shells are flying, you can sit back and sip your tea"... I.E. be a really terrible, inattentive BB player "Lob a shell up to 42 kilometres"... even accounting for WOWs scale vs IRL, this isn't accurate in-game "End of the battle before you even got an enemy warship in your gunsights"... Not with the horrendous dispersion and physics-defying shell trajectories. Battleships can't reliably hit the broad side of Alcatraz, even at less than 5 kilometres "AP shells flew in one side and out the other"... Which is really badly simulated physics, because it simulates a hollow shape of metal rather than the complicated and dense insides of an actual ship "Turn your side"... which, because of broke HE mechanics is the single dumbest thing you could possibly do, in any ship "The rest is a matter of skill at leading your targets"... and RNG. I suggest sacrificing a goat every salvo. "Choose a flank and lead your team forward"... Assuming your team actually follows you. If they don't you're pretty much dead in 60 seconds "No hidden pitfalls"... Except the whole 'bigger target for HE spamming players' thing So, in summary, I played battleships for most of the Closed Beta and saw their gameplay becoming worse and worse... more and more tedious... more and more dependent on RNG... Don't play battleships. Save yourself the pointless grind.
Capn Pipsqueak Correction: Don't play any of the high tier ship the company is advertising the game off of, you'll be stuck grinding low tier ships like a job just to be able o afford playing any of the high tier stuff people get excited about.
Capn Pipsqueak side armor of 410. negating the explosions of shells of 203mm + even if you have 410mm armor, your going to have damage from 203mm+ of HE explosions. cause 1. it will leave a dent in the armor, or even rip up stuff on the deck. the deck is wooden, it can light this on fire. the shockwave will further the dmg. Yamato is actually pretty epic. its accuracy suffers ALOT less than other BBs. provided you dont stay at max range
+Anabuki Tomoko when I was in PTS(public test server) I noticed that the IJN BBs accuracy is really bad compared to the USN BBs(of course...much more advanced tech) and that made me said I choose the right line (currently still in New Mex and accuracy also gets derpier and derpier)
The emperor doesn't pay attention to the annoyance of small destroyers! You guys hear that? Ha! That one was funny guys. Oh wait, you're serious? Aaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha! *breathe* Aaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha!
Lmao imagine if they managed to actually build all the 6 yamato size class warships instead of just building yamato and the other one, japan would be facing a fuel crisis just by running those 6 battleships
Correction: Musashi is a heap of rubble. Yamato is basically in 2 halves and her bridge is a pile of rubble between them. So figure the central 3rd of the ship is basically dusted.
Except I’ve rarely seen her do particularly well. And wielding her is akin to bringing an otachi to a dagger fight. If you hit you’ll do serious damage, but if you don’t you’re screwed cause she’s too big to easily go around for another pass.
1:14 "How can this sea monster ever be sunk?" By poping up smoke or parking behind a island and spam High Explosive shells, every 3 seconds setting inumerable fires, yes, its like to destroy a Tiger Tank by using 9mm pistol with tracer and incendiary rounds, that's how. And the most impressive is, if this thing opens a tunnel inside your ship, our game mechanics says that's its no damage at all, so yes a guy in a Bicycle firing a 9mm pistol with incendiary shells can take a hit of a 88 mm shell in the head and get out alive to tell the story.
If it gets sunk, there is a chance it may survive in one piece, gain alien technology, rise out of the ocean, fly into space and fire an impossibly massive cannon at you.

It's a DAMN game people , in reality , she sank a escort carrier of 35 knots speed ( The Gambler Bay ) with 3 hits , 2 of which passed right through the other and passed out the bottom , she was designed to go up against battleships like Arizona , California. , Nevada . ECT... The main targets of the Pearl Harbor raid was Carriers. , which were out on patrol that Sunday morning , not battleships , Then the USA would retaliate with the design of the 12 gun 16 inch in 4 turrets Montana class , which then Japan had on the drafting board their answer with a 20 inch 15 gun in 5 turrets 100,000 Ton monster . Not to mention the 140,000 Hitler super monster dream

I feel like anti-air should be the 3rd ammo type, that once loaded, can devastate air targets, but cannot target ground targets.. Even the mighty 18.1 inch Yamato guns could fire beehive AA rounds at planes for devastating effect.
ltflak
Please forget anything about the Type 3 Sanshiki beehive rounds.
No. Ok then. Johnston took 3 18.1in hits and only lost half of her engine power but still combat capable while a 6.1in shell hit the bridge destroying that part.

yeah izumo lol
To be fair she isn't really a bad ship, she can do good if you angle her properly, but when she gets put in tier X matches she struggles. Just think of her as a dunkerque that can actually take hits. or an Iowa with the rear turret placed in the front. Which actually gives her less of a broadside profile when she has all guns to bear.
Can bounce ap shell..

you know the yamato is a legendary battleship and the biggest battle ship ever
Ironically because world of warship is a game they have to balance everything
Rey Vinz if they historically balanced it then americans would be op cus radar, the yamato would suck against aircraft but otherwise be godly.
Rey Vinz
If it was realistic, there would be about 50 aircraft carriers WAY out of the range of any battleship lol
If it was real, there would be missile silos on land to blow out any of those ships. :P

+Thefloating Mage its still a mystery on what caused the giant explosion on yamato when she went down. if anyone has an answer id like to know.
maybe the plane hit the cannon's magazine?
+RaptorDoesRUclips ammo storage?
Nobody i've seen yet as asked was there ever plans for a class 2 yamoto in the imperial navy? I quess top of the mountain is as far as you can go!
DezGamez was using Yamato at full health and took 1 torpedo and sunk.
Saladin1187 There is a small chance, like in real life, of a magazine detonation by torpedo. RnG happened then as it does now. For us that have endured this it is called the "Golden BB" principle.
Saladin1187 facepalm
RNG
+Saladin1187 In real life this happens. Look at the British Royal Navy's HMS Hood. One salvo from the Bismarck and instant GG.
+Trades46 well to be fair Hms hood was never designed to face such heavy fire. Bismarck's shots would have quite literally ripped through the armour like it was toilet paper.
Mehul Kapur
Yes that is true (that's what the RN gets by using a Battlecruiser in a straight up brawl).
However my point it, regardless of the amount of armor on any ship, a well-placed shot with the RNG god on your side will OHKO any warship.
Wows is my favorite game too!(World of Warships)because of how much i love Warships
"Side armour of ~410mm"... that is completely ignored by HE mechanics
"The Emperor doesn't pay attention to the annoyance of small destroyers and cruisers"... except when they're launching torpedoes and HE at you while well within the range of your secondaries which are completely and utterly ineffective
"When the shells are flying, you can sit back and sip your tea"... I.E. be a really terrible, inattentive BB player
"Lob a shell up to 42 kilometres"... even accounting for WOWs scale vs IRL, this isn't accurate in-game
"End of the battle before you even got an enemy warship in your gunsights"... Not with the horrendous dispersion and physics-defying shell trajectories. Battleships can't reliably hit the broad side of Alcatraz, even at less than 5 kilometres
"AP shells flew in one side and out the other"... Which is really badly simulated physics, because it simulates a hollow shape of metal rather than the complicated and dense insides of an actual ship
"Turn your side"... which, because of broke HE mechanics is the single dumbest thing you could possibly do, in any ship
"The rest is a matter of skill at leading your targets"... and RNG. I suggest sacrificing a goat every salvo.
"Choose a flank and lead your team forward"... Assuming your team actually follows you. If they don't you're pretty much dead in 60 seconds
"No hidden pitfalls"... Except the whole 'bigger target for HE spamming players' thing
So, in summary, I played battleships for most of the Closed Beta and saw their gameplay becoming worse and worse... more and more tedious... more and more dependent on RNG...
Capn Pipsqueak side armor of 410.
negating the explosions of shells of 203mm +
even if you have 410mm armor, your going to have damage from 203mm+ of HE explosions. cause 1. it will leave a dent in the armor, or even rip up stuff on the deck. the deck is wooden, it can light this on fire.
the shockwave will further the dmg.
The War Monger IJN BBs will have worse accuracy at max range. but at equal range to USN BBs they should have superior accuracy
+Anabuki Tomoko yeah unless magic 1000 damage happens 10 times in a row that means the IJN BB is shitted on by RNGesus
That kind of feeling

Except I’ve rarely seen her do particularly well. And wielding her is akin to bringing an otachi to a dagger fight.
If you hit you’ll do serious damage, but if you don’t you’re screwed cause she’s too big to easily go around for another pass.

ああ...大和( ;∀;)
1:14 "How can this sea monster ever be sunk?"
By poping up smoke or parking behind a island and spam High Explosive shells, every 3 seconds setting inumerable fires, yes, its like to destroy a Tiger Tank by using 9mm pistol with tracer and incendiary rounds, that's how.
And the most impressive is, if this thing opens a tunnel inside your ship, our game mechanics says that's its no damage at all, so yes a guy in a Bicycle firing a 9mm pistol with incendiary shells can take a hit of a 88 mm shell in the head and get out alive to tell the story.
Meh I'll stick with the Montana.
If it gets sunk, there is a chance it may survive in one piece, gain alien technology, rise out of the ocean, fly into space and fire an impossibly massive cannon at you.

i think she can be more useful if beach herself and become a steel banker somewhere in the path of the US. her 18 inc gun make an ideal coastal artillery it will be like some lone samurai guarding the gate of the castle or like thermoplyae, a heroic last stand.
It's a DAMN game people , in reality , she sank a escort carrier of 35 knots speed ( The Gambler Bay ) with 3 hits , 2 of which passed right through the other and passed out the bottom , she was designed to go up against battleships like Arizona , California. , Nevada . ECT...
The main targets of the Pearl Harbor raid was Carriers. , which were out on patrol that Sunday morning , not battleships ,
Then the USA would retaliate with the design of the 12 gun 16 inch in 4 turrets Montana class , which then Japan had on the drafting board their answer with a 20 inch 15 gun in 5 turrets 100,000 Ton monster .
Not to mention the 140,000 Hitler super monster dream
