The ultimate solution and upgrade would be to be able to take snippets from the time-line sequentially to be able to edit and upscale what you want from the whole time line. As for now you can only do one snippet at a time.

I tryed the free version. I took a 2 min video in 720p and upscaled it to 1080p(H264) - the only thing I did was upscaling.
The 1080p video topaz mad was over 10GB. Which made no sense.
How big are your topaz 4k clips?
Maybe I did something worng.

Upgrade (future proof) your hardware. The upgrade will/should take care of the demand n the computer.
