Wildlife Photography Community… We Have a Problem
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 месяца назад
Recently, I’ve had a lot of thoughts on my mind about the wildlife photography culture that we live in. More specifically, how people tend to follow groupthink patterns that are in general, uncontested. Some of these topics may be pretty unimportant, and some may have a powerful effect that we need to reconsider. But ultimately, there is a problem that lies in this mentality as a whole that I t...

I like my picture review but I had no email sent to me
Very interesting thoughts on this video with 2 full time wildlife photographers. For me i always try to improve and watch other peoples videos, from the two of you, and learn these concepts and techniques to improve my photography. Id say my own limitation is the usage of post processing programs such as lightroom, photoshop, topaz etc... I feel that getting to know these programs to a decent depth of knowledge, is essential in evolution of photography. I would also say composition is my weakness, and these things and i feel that backgrounds in the area in which I live, cant always have creamy bokeh's, lovely colours or perfect lighting int he areas you want. There is just so much stuff that i feel was addressed in this video and it is very insightful to hear this. One key factor you mentioned at the end is knowing having an idea of how you are going to develop the photo in post processing; i struggle with this, what are the tips associated with this in order to start to think in this way? Excellent video and enjoyed a lot.
A salamander is not a reptile it is amphibian.
You're correct! Things fly by quick in the moment when I'm juggling so much 😂
I submitted photos but haven't received an email yet regarding critique on this week's live stream. Well done for all the hard work you put into this fun and unique competition!
Hey Melissa! Thank you so much for your kind words! Most likely that is due to unchecking the box to receive emails from us when you submitted your photos. The email was sent out this past Sunday morning. If you submit a request through the contact form on our website I can get you over the form to the photo critique confirmation :)
Thanks. I was multitasking during the live stream so missed that explanation toward the end. Have seen it now in the video and have already sent the request.@officialwilder
Congratulations Murtaza Jalali
Congratulations N9 Murtaza Jalali Keep it Up
N9 is the Best
Super Natural Lovely Picture
nah you're just worse
I liked the B&W more with some grass showing through. Gave it more context in my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback!
Can’t wait to watch LIVE!!
Going to be so good! ☺️
Great to see the 2 of you collaborating again. I love it when either of you drop a new video. That last answer of Evan’s is why I watch some people’s videos and click-off from others. The most important thing about wildlife photography HAS to be the wildlife, NOT the photograph! Really looking forward to seeing more from the Alaska trip. Keep up the great work 👍🏻😊
Glad to hear you look forward to them ☺️ most definitely, always important to keep the star of the show in mind!
Loved it! Great interviewing skills Jeremy! Listening to how Matt worked to get better made me decide to further my education to become better! Thanks - great job
Thanks Andrew! Matt has a lot to learn from and great experience under his belt. I enjoyed talking with him 🙌🏻
@@officialwilder keep it up Jeremy! It’s a lot of fun watching all the effort and passion you put into your videos and channel!! Thanks 🙏
This is brilliant and eye opening, you both make such excellent videos. Thank you
Thank you! Honored to hear 🙌🏻
Really looking forward to the competition and more videos from both of you. I enjoyed your discussion on how you produce them and hearing more about your goals. Trying to balance personal creativity with the pressures of the work as a business is a challenge for sure. You both are genuine and transparent about wanting to please the audience and analyzing what works, so that will help you continue to be successful, I'm sure. The difference between photographing in Yellowstone vs Alaska was also very interesting. Those Alaska Grizzlies give a whole new perspective to "clamming"!
Thanks for your feedback! It’s a challenging season rn but ultimately I feel blessed to be where I am :) Evan’s insights were great to hear. Looking forward to the comp!
Thanks for having me on Jeremy! It was fantastic chatting with you. I can’t wait to judge all the incredible submissions to the competition 😁
It was an honor having you as always! ☺️ your experiences are awesome to see and the way you craft stories is unparalleled. Excited to have you judge!
Yellowstone could become more stressful photographing bears as in Alaska. And I guess in Alaska the bears are more "approachable" for wildlife photographers ...
Most definitely! It’s interesting the differences
Easy choice have both of them
An amazing event that gets better each year 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Glad to hear that! 🙌🏻
You should add a young category for young photographers, and maybe make it free
The cost to put on the competition is a lot more than it looks like possibly on face value, so unfortunately free is out of the picture. However, there is a New Photographers category that levels the playing field for new people! Lots of young photographers wind up placing in that category.
👏👏👏
Awesome! I also live on the kenai peninsula in a 1957 trailer! Inspirational
So cool seeing Sergius’ adventures!
Thank you for this fantastic comparison video! Question if you happen to see this - I have a Canon 1200d body, a hand-me-down gift from an old friend. 18MP DSLR so it's wildly different technology to their currents, but still some major bang for one's buck getting started. Does the Sigma lens being 'mirrorless compatible' mean it won't be DSLR compatible? Has the EF mount so I'm good for that (1200d is EF and EF-S compatible), but I'm unsure about the idea of putting a 'new mirrorless-compatible lens' on an old mid-2010s DSLR body. I'm working with the Canon 70-300mm IS at the moment and it's fantastic if up close but I really struggle with faraway birds. Might end up renting it soon and give it a whirl to see how it fares, definitely need the extra IS boost because I have the shakiness of a rabbit LOL
This is amazing! Proud sponsor of your legit competition with incredible participants!
Honored to have you as a sponsor once again! 🙌🏻
I tried the link to submit and it said it wasn't a good link
Strange! I'm definitely getting other submissions coming in and through that link specifically when I look up the data. It could be that your computer is blocking the connected link. Try heading to our website by just typing in www.officialwilder.com and you'll see it right there on the homepage.
So stoked to be a judge for this year's competition! Looking forward to seeing all the epic submissions!
Excited to have you on as the first participant to judge nominee! Hyped for the event
Will definitely be entering this year, thanks for building & supporting this event..
Awesome, excited to see what you enter! Honored to do so.
All the best for your 2024 award!
Thank you! :)
So excited to be a part of this 🙌 I can’t wait to see all the incredible imagery submitted!
Same! And super excited to have you on as a judge!
I was a project manager for much of my career. I had a sign on my desk that read “If anything can go wrong, it has you just may not know it yet.”
😂😂 love that
Awesome podcast and insight into a wildlife photographers life. Serguis is a huge inspiration as I just moved to Alaska and have become obsessed with wildlife photography
That’s awesome! Sergius is a phenomenal photographer 🙌🏻
It so important to stay reflected to yourself. Does not matter as high you fly, its more important stay grounded.
Most definitely! Love that
Currently I own a Sony RX10M4 and I want to upgrage. I'm thinking about the A7IV or this A7R5. Which one should I choose for mainly wildlife photography? As far as I know the A7IV handles higher ISO better in low light, but the A7R5 has better crop factor because of the much higher megapixels, it's a hard decision. 😅 Is it much worse in low light, and is it much better in auto focusing than the A7IV? Thanks in advance! 😄
Thanks for having us on, it was a great time!
Thanks for coming on! Excited to have you on as a judge this year! 😎
Thanks for having us on man!
Was great getting to talk! Phenomenal job with your work 😎
Excellent conversation! I really appreciate the social media perspective and video production discussion. Great to be introduced to a wildlife photographer that I wasn't aware of. I look forward to catching up on Sergius' work!
His work is amazing! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it 🙌🏻
Great interview! Sergius is a great guy and friend. We've had a blast adventuring around Alaska with our cameras. Should be really fun judging this contest together.
One day I’ll meet up with you both! Excited to have both you two Alaskans this year judging 😎
@@officialwilder You've got an open invitation to come up and shoot with us.
Of course! a7rV is only a poor-man's a1 just for photo. It is ideal for someone who shoot elusive but not very dynamic subjects (sustained 10fps mechanical is sufficient) with great quality third party glass (like adapted old EF 500/600mm II f4s or native Sigma 60-600mm DG DN) that would not benefit from more than limited 15fps as implemented in Sony cameras with third-party lenses anyways.
Good to hear the 300/4.0 is sharper. I can see myself saving up for one, bit the 150-400 is just too rich for my blood.
Great talk! I watched it with curiosity! Greetings from a Swedish youtuber! 🇸🇪
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)
All mirrorless toys gets hide when Canon dslr 1DXmk3 shows ., 😜
I am starting in bird photography, I am from Costa Rica and as it all started it was a similar experience to yours I went for a walk one day and a Lesson's Motmot arrived and I was able to take the photos and I liked being able to capture those moments hahaha, Saludos desde Costa Rica pura vida!!
So cool! Pura vida!
Great chat guys. I enjoyed this one :)
Wonderful interview, Jeremy. Stefan offered so many wonderful insights and I really appreciated all of your great questions. What an incredible species!
Thank you! So cool getting to hear his experiences ☺️
Great interview! Once I will visit Antarctica ... This dream will come true.
Would be an amazing trip! 😍
I enjoyed the interview..
Thanks for a good honest reviewI wish I’d listen to you I purchased the 150 to. 400 end is woeful at best so soft. Luckily I have the 300 mm F4 and the 40-150mm f2.8 . Most of the Olympus ambassadors shoot back light shots The details are blown to bits. If this is the type of photography you enjoy no need for lens costing £6500. For me it is a case of a fool and his money are easily parted in my defence I was just hoping it would be the same 400mm as 300mm F4 is at 300 mil. It’s well short of that.
Nothing worse than cropping to that 5x4 when your subject already fills the frame.
Great job Jeremy with your cohort. You gave me a lot of new information and idea for my journey on RUclips, and I can only thank you forever. Take care my friend.
Your welcome! Glad I’ve had an impact ☺️
