    Fantastic Video! I replaced the belt and traction cable and still weak drive. I took apart both back wheels and thoroughly cleaned the gears on both. They were heavily caked with dirt and slime. I used a thin flathead screw driver and a very thin file to clean…. Sprayed a little WD-40 put it back together and voila…. the 18yr old Toro working like a charm….. I think it’s time for a new one next year. Excellent video!

    I agree with last comment! Last year I replaced the rear wheels on my Toro. Since then I get a lot of grinding noise. If you turn the wheel on one side of the mower it moves in both directions but the other side is locked up. I pulled the pinion gear off to see if it was on backwards as you demonstrated in the video but the wheel is locked up either way you put the gear on. Do I have a bad transmission? Thanks!

    My left rear wheel just started squeaking and locking up when moving forward, is fine going backwards - all while mower is off. When I started it and moved forward it seemed fine. Maybe coincidence. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff but I just found your video! Do you think this is the problem? Toro 22” personal pace 6.5 GTS model 20018. @kbssmallenginerepair2615  3 года назад +1

      It very well could be the problem. I would pull the wheel off and take a look at the gears on both the wheel and the gear on the axle. Pull the gear off the axle and take a look at the key, and spring under the key. Make sure everything is in place and working properly. Grease everything as needed. With the wheel off, spin the axle shaft and see if you hear the squeaking or feel any locking up. If so, we need to look more into the trans-axle. If anything looks out of the ordinary on the shaft, gears, etc. we can go from there.

    hi, I have the "equivalent" Lawnboy machine ( 10650C with electric start) but with the plastic drive gears in the wheels. Replaced both wheels and pignons, however the mower still skips teeth on the right side which already worn out after only 3 mowings. When I looked at it, seems like the pinion was not grabbing the full width of the gear and that the teeth on mesh as deep as they should. The mower is 10 years old, had little to no use for the first 7 years but now the traction system is work hard 2 hours a week on my hilly backyard. Any thoughts or ideas before I replace the back wheel again (the pinions barely had time to have any damage, so I'll keep those). Should I cheat and by the steel geared wheels?

    • @kbssmallenginerepair2615
      @kbssmallenginerepair2615  2 года назад +1

      That is very strange. I would double check that the axle/wheel assembly isn't bent or damaged, causing the wheel to sit on an angle and not engaging fully. Secondly, when you install the wheel, spin the actual wheel as you install it to make sure the gears fully seat together. Make sure there is no grinding or slipping that you can see. I am showing a 119-0321 for that machine, is that the same one you purchased? It appears to be metal, or possibly a hard type of plastic. Either way if that got stripped something is obviously not right.

    I noticed the side play on the drive axle, is it normal to have up to 1/2 inch movement?
    Also the plastic shaft that sticks up throught the metal geat ring can pull out through the gear ring, so I assume it's busted too?

      @@artsnow8872 So, I got the parts from Amazon and when I tore it down I cleaned up all the old washers and put them aside. After cleaning up the axle I reassembled everything and used all the old washers to pack the gap on one side and all the new ones from the kit to pack the other side. Now the axle barely moves an 1/8 of an inch side to side and is centred better on the gear drive of the wheel! No problems so far! Fingers crossed and whole lot cheaper then a new mower, including wheels, battery, blade and drive kit.

      @@grahamcharnock6453hey I’ve been searching for someone that has this problem too! I have an old Honda mower and the gears started grinding and noticed that the wheels were aligning right with the pinion gear. I think the wheel is loose on the axle which prevents them from lining up right with the gears. I noticed that when the rear wheels sit on the ground they bow in towards the top of the wheels due to the gap. So I’m going to try to add spacers like you to see if they fix the alignment so it contacts the pinion gear correctly. Is your fix still holding up? Thanks!

Good luck and let me know how it works out for you!👍👍

      Is there any grease on the shaft, or is it dry? It is possible it could be seized on there. If that is the case I would spray some penetrating spray (PB Blaster or similar) all on the shaft and in the crevices of the gear and let it soak for 12-14 hrs. Take some pliers and work it back and forth and it should break free. If there is still grease on it, it is likely just getting hung up on something.
