Lost Technology 1985 VHS / Betamax Kiosk Discovered! (part 2)

- We’re diving back into our 1985 Video Vendor machine today, because apparently, we love a good challenge-and tetanus. First up, we confront an ancient, soldered-on battery that looks like it powered the moon landing but has since retired in protest. Next, we take a guided tour of the machine’s mysterious innards, attempting to decipher what each part does, though most of our conclusions involve the word 'probably.'
Then it’s on to the control panel, which we remove to access the printer-a relic so dead, it could double as a guest star on a ghost-hunting show. After some quality time poking at it, we confirm it’s not just broken-it’s broken *with ambition*. While Googling the finer points of 'reviving a prehistoric printer,' we shift gears to cleaning up the stainless steel parts and peeling off layers of Scotch tape so old, it may have once held a note from the 1980s explaining why none of this works.

Enjoying the videos, but could you film in Landscape?
This was originally intended to be a Short when filmed so apologies.
@@spacetimejunction We don't want shorts, we want longs!
Why in everything good and holy, did you record this as a vertical video?! Shoot Horizontal, please!
@@tekvax01 as we have mentioned numerous times to others, these videos were shot as Shorts originally. All new videos shot in 2025 are being filmed in landscape.
Loving this!
A really neat piece of equipment that I didn't even know existed! (Yeah please don't always do vertical video.)
@@dragonheadthing we shot all videos as shorts originally (posted elsewhere) but all 2025+ videos will be horizontal.
@@spacetimejunction Thank you! :)
There's a way to replace bubble memory with battery backed SRAM.
Oh wow, once you get this thing up and running (and full) it'll be amazing. If you've got the ability to dump the software you should - there's not likely many more of those boards still functional like yours is.
Funny enough someone reached out to me who has almost 100 of these machines in a warehouse that were never used and he's selling them for super cheap. TK Design & Resale in St. Jo, Texas. Guy is named Trey.
The precursor to Redbox.
Don't use butt connectors to replace the power cord! Replace it all the way to the terminals, and use a proper strain relief!
@@tekvax01 but we love butt connectors.
It would be cool to get the EPROMS dumped.
why is this one also part 1?
It's part 2? Are you seeing something that says part 1?
@spacetimejunction it sure did on my computer
either that or I'm losing my mind
good work and cool find nonetheless!
