When my grandma was dying, she joked that it was the worst death she'd ever had! That lightness she had at the very end of her life inspires me to this day.
Thank you Ram Dass 🙏🏼 I had a spontaneous spiritual awakening a few months ago and was having trouble coping with a huge shift in my perspectives about myself and life in general. I found your book “Still Here” misplaced in the recipe section of a half-priced books shop. Your words have given me more comfort than anything during this beautiful but turbulent time in my life.
this happened to me about a year and a half ago. It's gonna take some time to readjust your normal day-to-day life and a lot of new revelations will come as a new way of seeing pretty much everything will slowly replace the old. keep the spiritual practices don't let the illusions of the world distract you, this awakening is a gift of the universe. I would recommend reading Dr. David Hawkins.
This is the first experience of Ram Dass I ever experienced and since then he’s given me the insight to change my life & I’ll forever be grateful. Wish I could have met you but I know you never left. RAM RAM!
The best kharma is teaching. I believe understanding something to its core is loving it in a sense. The good, bad, beautiful, and atrocious knowledge that comes with that understanding and accepting it for what it is. If you can teach someone to look at things from a greater viewpoint, understand it in it’s entirety truly, thats love. This man is a true teacher. Teaching to love through understanding. Rest easy king.
Agreed. Now I have to find out who Matthew Silver is. Another guy whos a lil less out there but you can still see the same spirit is iain mcgilchrist. Also mooji, Sadhguru
I view the process of death as being similar to a female going into labor. Except, in this case, the thing that is about to be born is that of your soul (mind/consciousness) being delivered into the context of “true reality.” And just as some birthing labors are long and drawn-out and more painful than others, likewise, so can some experiences of the process of death be long and drawn-out and more painful than others. The point is that when compared to our ultimate and eternal form, the human body is nothing more than the metaphorical equivalent of a higher form of a “placenta” that will be discarded at the moment of death. And what that furthermore means is that cemeteries are nothing more than “gardens of afterbirth.” (P.S., happy ultimate birthday, Ram Dass.🎂 I just now discovered that you exited the “big womb” of this material universe 4 days ago.) _______
@@__-of3bt Hi Nicholas Jay, No, that was not a nice way of saying that we return to absolute nothingness. 2:49 for a story I personally had never heard or read him tell about his guru, and mother I love and appreciate you and everyone ever around you, Ram Dass. Thanks for speaking your truth so beautifully, and, well... so much!! 🤠🙏❤️
Every time I listen to this story I tear up when his dad asks what its like. And when he sees purples🙃 when he meditates and his friend says this is the most peace she has ever felt 💜
Thank you Ram Dass... I want to transcend my role and connect with my children and I have already had a few beautiful moments. Because of you, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle and many other great wonderful people. Thank you for opening my eyes. There is no turning back now and I am now excited to live and when time comes to go, your words give me the greatest gift of peace.
Found out my grandfather has pancreatic cancer today. I’m really struggling, thank you Ram Dass for all your love and being a light in such a dark time. Namaste
It is true, the dying being has humor. Example is my grandmother, who at 90 and bedridden for months wanted to try on her funeral dress. We obliged her with a dress rehearsal and a photo op...what fun we had showing the pictures during the wake.
I always wanted to ask him about Castaneda as the years went on, after he became to be considered a very successful charlatan. I never did have the opportunity to talk with Ram Dass, to my loss. I attempted to meet Castaneda a few times, but he either cancelled his attendance at the dinner party, or I found myself face-to-face with a Carlos-imposter, which was fun in a different way.
Democracy may win because we have the great Wayne Dyer, Michael Singers, Elkhart Tolle, Ramdass and Alan Watts. They are the greatest teacher with compassion and capable to read people mind if we ask them for help about this war. They may solve the problem for us. It's just a piece of cake to them.
You are correct. It's just a matter of what happens after that moment. The teachers say "there is no death' and the rationalists say 'there is no soul' but regardless we all get to find out in the end.
I never paid attention to coughing I was seized on the message. The man was just as likely to have cancer and needed to hear this. Don't assume...just use ur practice.
Ram Dass was a forgiving, compassionate man. How he could have loved his parents so much after the way he describes the way they were is something I would struggle with. I wouldn't hate them, but I would have thought they were idiots. And he thinks his mom went to a heavenly realm. A judgmental, materialistic, narrrow minded individual that personifies so much of what is wrong with humanity and makes life here so difficult for so many of us.
It was only her human personality, not her true, might I say, divine self. She presented challenges which Ram Dass took, and transformed himself into a compassionate person and ultimately became a beloved guru.

I suggest you all go home, take some medicine and get plenty of rest. Goodbye folks, I hope ya feel better.
