- We have a new toy, er, I mean new tool for the farm. We bought a tractor to help us plant the chestnut trees. a 1966 Ford 3000, it needs a little work but runs and operates as it is. We got a good deal on the tractor and thought it would make planting chestnut trees in the orchard a little easier.
Today I am working on the 1966 Ford 3000 just fixing a few things on it to get it in a little better shape and to fit my needs a little better.
First thing I did was replace the in-line fuel filter, it was leaking and had rust in it. replaced a fuel line and drilled hole in the bottom plate of the seat so I could move it back further.
It ended up taking us most of the day, we had to run out a few times and get parts and an air compressor.
The stores around the area close at noon on Saturdays which makes it hard to get much done if you need parts. But we got done what we could.
We ended up calling a tractor tire service to come out and replace the tube in the tractor tire due to we ran out of time and we needed the tractor up and running by the next weekend to plant trees.

I think so too!
nice ride sir the best from holland
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool fam
Thank you
Yaay keep us posted. You could check ebay for parts or the tracture manufacturer. They might be able to help
I will, I have been looking, no luck yet.
Brilliant buddy my uncle restored his cabbed ford 4000 a few years back great wee tractor
Very cool! I am hoping to fix all the problems with this one as I go along.
High Joey!!! Sweet old tractor.
thank you, Glad I got it, Its a back saver.
What a great looking older Ford tractor 🚜 👍👍👍
Thank you John
Glad that you got that tractor, and I was happy to help.
Yes, thank you, its already saved us some sore backs.
Great tractor, all minor fixes it sounds like, good luck with it
Thank you, I am looking forward to tinkering around on it and working with it.
also you didn’t need to unhook that chain. that arm raises and lowers with that crank ( idk the name of it) that connects to the hydraulic lift arm.
Thanks for the tip, I am new to this, learning as I go.
it’s supposed to have 10 gears forward
I will take a look, The shifter needs some work as it is hard to shift through the gears.
Sweet new toy Joey!!
Thanks, we already got some trees planted with it. Its a back saver.
That's awesome, a tractor is a great tool to have around on the homestead.
It sure is! its a back saver for sure. Thanks for stopping by, I hope all is going well.
That's a nice looking machine Joey. Those old Fords are work horses. Me and my neighbor share something kind of similar.
Thanks Travis, Cant wait to get some work done with it.
That’s a great tractor. That would be my top pick if I had to choose one to get. I’m sure your aware but those pto shafts are very dangerous any loose clothing or long beards could get caught in there and your done for. When using the auger make sure you go up and down often to clear the hole, wants it gets caught under a root it will suck down all the way and be next to impossible to raise again. I have had it happen once and you have to dig the auger free. Not a fun experience. You will love the new tractor I think it’s going to be the perfect size for your woods.👍
Thank you, We are learning as we go to always be prepared for something to go wrong, lol
Nice tractor Mr Joey. Your gonna get some great use out of it.
Check with Mr Chris at homesteading the hard way. He can probably point you in the right direction on the parts you need brother. Hes a great guy also!
Gro Dat!!
Thats great info, Chris might know.
Congrats on the new purchase- it will be a game changer for you! Watch for used implements such as a landscape rake for cleaning up rocks in the orchard and a back blade for scraping roadways and cutting ditches. You will want to make sure you use both the stabilization chains on the three point hitch arms to keep your implements from shifting side to side. So you can either lengthen the chains, or flip the pins in the implement to accommodate the existing chains. As for tractor parts, Steiner Tractor Parts, and All States Ag Parts aren't bad places to start looking for things you may need. Good luck!
Thanks Chris, I thought about flipping the pins but being new to this I was not sure if I was suppose to do that or not. I did buy longer chains though.
A landscape rake is high on my watch list, How well does a landscape rake work on rocks? a lot of rocks? lol
@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors You would want to try to find a landscape rake that has rear gauge wheels on it. The first few passes let the whole weight of the rake scrape the ground and pull rocks, and then for the finish pass, set those gauge wheels so the rake is just cleaning the surface of the ground and no longer digging in. It takes a bit to get the adjustments correct, and there will still be some hand picking involved, but I would say when used properly it would cut down on 75% of hand picking rocks :)
@@dehavenfamilyfarm Thank you Chris, that sounds like what I need.
I'm sure that tractor's going get a lot of use around your place. Cool video, Joey.
I can tell you this, just using it to dig holes was a back saver.
I'm sorry but I started laughing before you gave me permission, Joey. I LOVE the oldies (being one myself). Hey, it has a motor, a transmission, 4 tires and a pto. What more do you need to know?
Go to your local auto parts store for a manual choke cable kit to fix that pto cable - I used one in a 54 Ford bread truck. I'm betting that tractor is going to be a good addition to the property my friend!
I bet when you get that center connection set the arms will come closer together on that auger so you can re-connect the chains. Good addition!
@Geeky Joey and family have been here to Wildcat. They are great people. :D
@@WildcatHollowFarm I agree with you completely though I haven;t yet had the privilege of a 3d visit.
Thanks Jack, I was wondering If i could just use any pull cable
You going to use it for your foodplots
I will use it for a lot of things. It will see some food plot use too.
I just bought my first tractor also just like yours lol... I also have a broken pto cable and was curious how you fixed yours?
I have not gotten mine fixed yet, Hard to find a replacement part for it. I did just receive this link this morning. You might want to give them a call. Let me know how it goes.

@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors 10-4..I have found a place that repairs or manufactures cables that said they do not have a pattern for the 3000 model but they would more than likely be able to make something if I were to send it in. Ill keep you posted.
@@waylonzook9203 forgot to add the link, its in there now. thats good to know.
@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors I called them. they have a used one for $400. I think I will try to have my repaired or rebuilt if possible.
This is who I have sent pictures to have mine repaired or remanufactured. bunkerhillcables.com/pto-control-cable-replaces-ford-86610390-d8nnb756aa-60-00362/ I am waiting to see what their response is.
Good luck finding all the parts you need for your tractor. I think we're going to have to look into getting one for our place. I must have missed the name for your property, Foggy Ridge Farm is a pretty cool name.
Thanks , it wont be easy finding them.
I don't know how I missed this video last week! I love the old tractors, Fords are one of my favorite. My dad has a 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee. You will get to learn more and more about how to do things as you work on them, so don't beat yourself up on it! Looking forward to more tractor videos!
as it is with everything, live and learn. I have been getting some good feed back on how to keep those pins from sheering, cant wait to give that advice a try.
Could you put the hitch arms to the inside of the implement, swap the pins to the inside. Seems shady with the chains disconnected, risk getting caught by the wheels.
I now know I could, and I thought about that but never knowing anything about tractors or 3pt implements I didnt know if I could do that or not. So I just unhooked the chains.
I did buy longer chains though.
Oh man! That is a cool old tractor!
I hear ya man, a 10 min job turns into 4 hours. Then half your day is gone.... lol
The property is looking great and I love the name!
Seems like everything takes longer than it should, and It seems I dont have the patience I had when I was younger, Never that I had much but I thought I would have more of it the older I got, lol
FIRST !!!!!
Thank you
