  • We have a new toy, er, I mean new tool for the farm. We bought a tractor to help us plant the chestnut trees. a 1966 Ford 3000, it needs a little work but runs and operates as it is. We got a good deal on the tractor and thought it would make planting chestnut trees in the orchard a little easier.
    Today I am working on the 1966 Ford 3000 just fixing a few things on it to get it in a little better shape and to fit my needs a little better.
    First thing I did was replace the in-line fuel filter, it was leaking and had rust in it. replaced a fuel line and drilled hole in the bottom plate of the seat so I could move it back further.
    It ended up taking us most of the day, we had to run out a few times and get parts and an air compressor.
    The stores around the area close at noon on Saturdays which makes it hard to get much done if you need parts. But we got done what we could.
    We ended up calling a tractor tire service to come out and replace the tube in the tractor tire due to we ran out of time and we needed the tractor up and running by the next weekend to plant trees.

    That’s a great tractor. That would be my top pick if I had to choose one to get. I’m sure your aware but those pto shafts are very dangerous any loose clothing or long beards could get caught in there and your done for. When using the auger make sure you go up and down often to clear the hole, wants it gets caught under a root it will suck down all the way and be next to impossible to raise again. I have had it happen once and you have to dig the auger free. Not a fun experience. You will love the new tractor I think it’s going to be the perfect size for your woods.👍

    Congrats on the new purchase- it will be a game changer for you! Watch for used implements such as a landscape rake for cleaning up rocks in the orchard and a back blade for scraping roadways and cutting ditches. You will want to make sure you use both the stabilization chains on the three point hitch arms to keep your implements from shifting side to side. So you can either lengthen the chains, or flip the pins in the implement to accommodate the existing chains. As for tractor parts, Steiner Tractor Parts, and All States Ag Parts aren't bad places to start looking for things you may need. Good luck!

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад

      Thanks Chris, I thought about flipping the pins but being new to this I was not sure if I was suppose to do that or not. I did buy longer chains though.
      A landscape rake is high on my watch list, How well does a landscape rake work on rocks? a lot of rocks? lol

    • @dehavenfamilyfarm
      @dehavenfamilyfarm 3 года назад +1

      @@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors You would want to try to find a landscape rake that has rear gauge wheels on it. The first few passes let the whole weight of the rake scrape the ground and pull rocks, and then for the finish pass, set those gauge wheels so the rake is just cleaning the surface of the ground and no longer digging in. It takes a bit to get the adjustments correct, and there will still be some hand picking involved, but I would say when used properly it would cut down on 75% of hand picking rocks :)

    I'm sorry but I started laughing before you gave me permission, Joey. I LOVE the oldies (being one myself). Hey, it has a motor, a transmission, 4 tires and a pto. What more do you need to know?
    Go to your local auto parts store for a manual choke cable kit to fix that pto cable - I used one in a 54 Ford bread truck. I'm betting that tractor is going to be a good addition to the property my friend!
    I bet when you get that center connection set the arms will come closer together on that auger so you can re-connect the chains. Good addition!

      as it is with everything, live and learn. I have been getting some good feed back on how to keep those pins from sheering, cant wait to give that advice a try.

  • @oxford821
    @oxford821 3 года назад +1

    Could you put the hitch arms to the inside of the implement, swap the pins to the inside. Seems shady with the chains disconnected, risk getting caught by the wheels.

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад

      I now know I could, and I thought about that but never knowing anything about tractors or 3pt implements I didnt know if I could do that or not. So I just unhooked the chains.
      I did buy longer chains though.
