    Glad you got it to fire for a bit. Sitting is hard on equipment but that's part of it. With your distance from the property and other things going on I'm sure it's hard to find time for everything. I hope the neighbor can help you out...

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад

      Hi Dave, if I would have had the parts and more time I would have got it running. The neighbor got it going, the battery needed charging more and the ignition was changed. he also found a loose wire, its running now and I was hoping to plant trees this weekend, but its pouring and suppose to rain all weekend.

  • @Pennies_on_the_dollar
    @Pennies_on_the_dollar 3 года назад +2

    Man yeah, persistence pays off!!! It very possibly could be the netural safety switch for the selecto speed, not letting crank right at times. Best to probably replace that whole bowl assembly and line, they are notorious. Get it fixed, it sits for a few days, go back it's pouring gas🤦 So nice to see you back up there Mr Joey, sorry I was late..notifications slipped by. Can't wait to see more.of this tractor!!

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Neutral safety is one of the original problems when I got the tractor. you have to wiggle the shifter to get it to start. Seems this time it was the battery, ignition and a loose wire. Neighbor got it started for me but now its raining all weekend. I cant win.

    I don't know.... You commented on my video that we were doing things beyond your capabilities.. then I watch you tinkering with an old Ford tractor... Looks like you have some good capabilities to me.
    Gas engines need 3 things, good fuel, hot spark (at the right time) and clean air... As for getting it to turn over... Well, I see some comments about the neutral start switch. They go bad, just like anything else.
    You are right, tedious work, but it's not difficult. Sounds like it runs pretty good 👍 born in a good year too👍😁

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      I can tinker a little, and yep, the neutral safety switch is giving us problems too. Luckily I just need to move the shifter a little to get it to turn over. I really wish I had more time to mess with it at a slower pace. It always seems i am rushed when I have to do something on the farm.

    Even though it is not running now I think you did a great job getting as far as you did, it is not easy working on equipment that has not run for a long time and working on them in a field. I am sure it will not too much more to get it running well. I love old equipment and I am sure it will still be running long after anything bought new today

One day i had my foot up on the hitch of the trailer spraying my shoes and pants legs with tick repellent. next thing I know bees are falling out of the hitch. Had to go get the bee spray.

    Hahaha, I had a Harley that I needed to carry an Allen wrench on my key chain so I could jump the solenoid to start it ( I was too cheap to buy a new solenoid ) With a little effort you got the old girl started up but no go on continuing to run. If you hadn’t run it in a year maybe the gas has gone bad ( hate the ethanol they put in gas these days ). Good luck getting it figured out Joey. Give our best to Kris ! Hope she’s doing well.

    Love old tractors. My grandfather hand a 1940s Ford Tractor, and was still using it when in the mid-1960s he bought a used Massey (think that's the correct spelling), and I believe it was a 1960 tractor. Both tractors when still running great when he sold his farm and retired in 1985.
    Don't know if it's your issue, but my Sears 12v battery charger does that if the battery had drained too low to properly/safely recharge it.
    Hope you get thing worked out and get that old girl running and you get to planting.

    Brother when you out in the field and nothings seems to work you do what you have to do to make it work, start and run. I think those tractors have a natural safety switch that might keep it form getting power from the key switch to the starter solenoid. Thanks for sharing.

  • @ReturningtoBasics
    @ReturningtoBasics 3 года назад +1

    Joey, I'm surprised you actually did get your tractor to start. You need to replace the starter solenoid, and the reason your battery charger was cutting off on that other battery is because the battery has gone bad from setting up and not being kept charged. There's nothing you can do to save a battery when that happens so you need to replace it. If you can find a Battery Outfitters in your area they sell 'blem' batteries. I have a Group 48 on my Ford 3000. It is much more affordable than a new battery and works great. Those Ford 3000's are tough and great tractors.

    • @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors
      @MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors  3 года назад

      Hey Neal, Took the battery and had it checked out, they said battery was fine just needed a charge. changed the spark plugs and wires, changed the ignition and it fired up. Still have an issue with it shutting off when moving around quickly. As long as I drive slow it stays running. I believe it is due to sludge in the fuel tank. I will try to clean it out later this year.
      I also sent you an email.

    A totally dead battery sometimes won’t take a charge unless you jump it with another battery for a little bit. Then the battery charger will work. Don’t ask me why. That’s just the way it is.
