    What should we do with it now? 5 bottom plow?

      5 bottom requires a lot of tractor. For the weight of that machine 3 bottom might right

    They will slober also known as wet stacking when they idle alot. Usually kicking it up to higher rpms will clear it out. It will do it more in cold weather than hot weather. Nice job on her!

    Great to see it working as well as it looks! Rear wheel weights might be hard to find, but they'd prevent the occasional leaks that rust out the rims.

    The reason you're seeing that black oily soot on exhaust is called wet stacking. Just keep putting a lot of loads on it an the wet stacki,g will stop try not to idle it a lot of needs a load on it

    Great job on that resto looks and sounds beautiful. I have a 61 4000 and i found a set of full pie weights and restord them to help with useing a seven foot box blade to level some of my land here in vermont. Worked great. Also have a new to me 58 861 with snow plow to take some of the of the pressure off of the 4000 for snow removal. The 861 has beet juice in the rears for traction. Both tractors have full sets of chains. You can get into trouble with pie weights on hilly terrain,. Loaded rear tires, if done right are better for center of gravity. Loved your vids, take mama out for dinner and celebrate! Warren in Vermont.

    I started plowing and disking at 9 years old on a Select O Speed 800. Dad had 2. With front and rear weights the front would be in the air at times. Pulling a chopper and silage wagon it would spin out upslope due to no differential lock. The 5000 in 1967 cured that. The 800 worked everyday blading out the free stall barns till it was parked in the 90's. With your talents I wish you'd tried a Select O Speed.

    I like how the fuel tank sits above the motor and muffler. Keeping that fuel warm! Look for a 3-16 John Deere wheel plow with coulters. That Diesel will walk away with one of those.

  • @garyfeltus9801

    You will need to put a plow or disc behind it and really work it hard to seat the rings in good . Then it should quite slobbing. CK out squatch 253 can't tell what episode it was. That rebuilt cat engine did the same thing. Them old motors had a different metal in them .

    Beautiful tractor, definitely need a 3 bottom 3 point. Trailer plows won't help you any with the draft issue you may run into with the track width being set so wide. It'll still pull, it'll just pull a little harder. If it was me personally I'd just flip the centers of the rims around so the dish is in. Not sure if your going to put a loader back on it but it wouldn't interfere with the loader anyway. To me it looks a little goofy with tires so far out from the fenders but it's your tractor do what you want

    • @dieseJL
      @dieseJL  8 месяцев назад

    On a restored tractor like that don't put calcium chloride in the wheels. Real bad idea. I bit the bullet and put wheel weights on to add weight. Mounted plows on those tractors work better over trailer plows.

One or more injectors are not spraying fuel correctly . that's why you have a sooty discharge with blue smoke . some of the fuel is not being burnt THIS COULD DAMAGE THE MOTOR !! I will guess that you CHEAPED out on the rebuild. Great video thanks

Run beet juice it's next too free in price and doesn't corrode the rims. Where are your lights at?! lol. P.s cherish the memories you have of your Grandpa's '801 with the Sherman backhoe. Nice Ford tractor. Seems to run nice. ...Just wondering, why so many people (farmers etc) leave their tractors and equip setting out in the elements and tall grass. There must be a good reason, it seems about 80% of them do it.

  • @tripler3724
    @tripler3724 8 месяцев назад +1

    I use Kubotas now, but grew up farming with Fords of that size. We always had fluid in the tires; we use fluid and wheel weights now. To plow, swap rear tires for narrow tread, front is adjustable. To "layout" the beginning set your plow even then adjust to compensate once you have a good furrow. My brother drives 9000 John Deeres, but still uses a couple of old Fords because he loves them 600 and 601.

    Agree on the loaded tires, and figger out what's up with that PTO. But fantastic job, looks like it runs fantastically and great power and torque there! Appears to be breaking in and the smoke is getting better.
    A semi-mounted style plow that pulls from the 3 pt and lifts the rear end with a hydraulic cylinder over a ingle tire seems like it would be a great option.

    Back in the early 1970s my dad bought a derelict NAA Golden Jubilee from a junkyard in the suburbs of Chicago and we spent a year tearing it down in our garage in inner city Chicago and found that it had a HI/STD/LO ranging transmission inside the bellhousing but no selector handle so we had to source one of those but parts were easier to get then. We rebuilt the engine, transmission, fuel system, hydraulics and even the electrical system. Anyway it's on my parents' farm in north central KY but both parents passed in 99 and 01 and myself and my 3 sisters sold our fifth to my brother and he still runs it regularly. Other than normal maintenance issues the only problem we had since the 70s is the exhaust replacement and brakes. On the PTO there is an extender you can get that attaches to the standard PTO and brings the attachment point out about 4 inches which will alleviate the problem with the hookup with the quick release button hitting the hitch mount. Your diesel 861 is almost an identical twin overall to the NAA we rebuilt.

    Put wheel weights on your tractor for tillage work. These 861's had plenty of engine power but were known by customers and dealers to be light in weight. All the vintage training films from the old Ford Tractor company displayed these tractors with rear wheel weights. Also, the additional weights would help the tractor not to jackknife on hillsides while attached to implements such as pull type combines or hay balers. I speak from experience as we had both an 860 and an 861 on our hillside farm in southwestern Wisconsin. I enjoyed your presentation immensely as it brought back the many memories of operating our Ford tractors while growing up as a youth! Looking forward to your additional videos on vintage Ford tractors.
