    I appreciate your concise and instructive video. I have been looking to buy this radio for a month. I think that it is the best "Chinese" made radio available and one of the best... period, certainly for the money. Thank you for your time in making this video. Don, Arkansas - USA

      Hi and thank you for watching and commenting. I have to agree that out of the assortment of Chinese radios available the Anytone is a decent option. If you need DMR then this is the way to go in my view. Getting a spare battery or two will also help. If you need analogue and DMR doesnt interest you then Retevis RA685 is a better quality UV5R equivalent style radio for under £45 and worth a look. Heard some good reports on them. The RA85 is the GMRS version with the RA685 being the UHF/VHF version. All the very best, MJ7NLK

      Its a very versatile radio and the battery lasts forever on a charge. I have three of them now in the collection and it tends to be the UHF/VHF goto radio for me. I have an Icom ID52 amongst others but gravitate towards the D878UVII+ as its built like a tank and I wouldnt be too concerned if I dropped it, which I have done a few times and i think the road came off worst. The menus are a little clunky at times when searching for an option but apart from that its a very flexible and powerful radio. All the best and thanks for watching. 73 MJ7NLK

      Hi Kato, thanks for the feedback and I am glad the content has helped you. The Anytone is a lovely little radio. Look up on the internet in your region what the calling channels are for UHF and VHF and then tune in on a Friday evening or Sat morning and Sun morning and see what you can pickup. There is usually something going on especially on Sun mornings but it really does depend on your area. Call CQ CQ CQ and give your call sign and ask if there is anyone on air. You will get the hang of it in no time. Also check out your local repeaters, there are apps on your phone for this. Repeater Book and alike. If you dont have much going on in the simplex area then hit your nearest repeater and see what you can find. All the very best, MJ7NLK

    Nice video. A few points. The radio is dual watch and dosnt have 2 receivers. The APRS is limited and dosnt display received data on screen. When updating FW, you have to export old codeplug and import on new cps to avoid weird behaviour. 73 2E0BSL

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Год назад

      Hi Ben, thanks for commenting and for watching. The APRS on the Anytone is solid. There were some issues with packet receive early on but I think that has been resolved and likely to have been due to issues with compatibility with what was being sent by other radios not just decoding what was received on this device. The Anytone is cheap compared to other devices, has brilliant battery life, a huge amount of contact space, and worked very well when I tested it. The Kenwood was a lovely radio but hard to find and very expensive now. The Anytone is definitely worth a look. All the best

    Just curious, but does the radio have options to switch between contact 'files'?
    'The' database everyone talks about is only one possible source of contacts, and if you use custom contacts, there's no guarantee that you don't use ID"s that also exist in the mentioned database.
    Or should I only use the custom contacts, and maybe add some of the contacts from the database that I personally connect to?

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  2 года назад +1

      Hi, its a single database that all DMR radios should have so that they all have the same data. Its distributed in CSV format so you could mess with it but that would only work on your radio and not all. Older versions of this radio were limited in the number of contacts it could hold and once the DMR database exceeded that number it rendered them usless really. Previosuly it was 200k and this version is 500k. The DMR database is currently running at 222k contacts so plenty of head room. Its simple to just register your call sign and get added to the database and update the database on your device periodically. Hope this helps

    • @angeldelvax7219
      @angeldelvax7219 2 года назад +1

      @@NLKMediaGroup It's not something every radio should have, because this database is strictly for HAM use. Not for any other uses. If I want to set up a private master server, I would need different ID's and callsigns for each radio I use if I want to use them for events, or even for business purposes.
      My callsign is registered, and I habe a brandmeister ID. Thing is; I would like to use a radio for both my HAM hobby and for use with private DMR systems. And I can't force the keepers of the HAM DMR database to check my private ID's (which they can't even access if it's private) so they won't generate "doubles".
      But if I get what you're saying is that it's not possible to use a radio both for HAM and private servers / networks. Either that, O or I have to be content that private ID's show up incorrectly if I'm on the brandmaister network.

      @@angeldelvax7219 I understand your dilema and am not familiar with the differences between amature and business use on DMR frequencies. I am sure you could feed a custom list into the radio but to avoid issues would be at the upper end of the ID's as anyone else picking up your signal could show a diferent user if ID's matched with the current database. I have absolutely no clue on the legalities of this so please investigate beforehand in your region. Best of luck and if you do hack the database then please let me know how you got on and if it worked for you. Other viewers or readers might be interested in your results. (It certanly would be easier to just add everyones call signs into the global database who are using the radios)

    • @angeldelvax7219
      @angeldelvax7219 2 года назад +1

      @@NLKMediaGroup Legality is the absolute highest priority in my projects, together with safety ;)
      Thanks for your reply.
      Not all users would have a callsign. It's basicallt the same as analog FM use of porto's for events. Using a leased frequency for the radio's and repeaters, and a private network, not connected to internet. But I know what I needed to know, thanks!

  • @nellbrown770

    great information on your video, can you use the radio without the computer stuff as thats far to complicated for me and only have a phone for internet.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  2 года назад

      Yes, you can but its far easier to use a code plug and define everything using a computer. It's quite a small screen and a pre-defined code plug (which is essentially lots of channels and settings in a file you upload to the radio covering your area) saves time and button pushing. Dependent on your area you might be able to get the shop selling the radio to load one for you. If purchasing from the UK then you could try calling Martin Lynch and Sons www.hamradio.co.uk and they might load one for you before despatching. They are very helpful and have an engineering department so worth a try. All the best and thanks for watching

      The latest user CSV file has 261,890 rows in it as of 24 Jun 2024. The radio supports 500k digital contacts so there is still a long way to go before hitting capacity. Take a look at the Icom ID-52 which has UHF and VHF, Airband and broadcast radio. It covers 76.0-108.0 broadcast radio + 108-174, 225-479 for A band receiver + 137-174, 375-479 for B band receiver and can transmit on 144-146,
      430-440 frequencies for the European model. Please check the USA version as there are differences in covered frequencies. The ID-52 has a brilliant waterfall display check out my video on this radio to learn more. its not cheap but its probably the best handheld available and the audio transmit and receive is simply amazing. Hi, I was thinking of buying a scanner as at the moment, I'm only interested in listening to broadcasts rather than speaking. Would this be a better buy than an analog scanner for around the same price? I understand that there is an option to prohibit ptt in the software so that there is no danger of accidentally broadcasting. I live on a hill in North Somerset not far from the Bristol DMR repeater. Maybe after listening for a while I'd gain some confidence and sit my licence 🤔
    Many thanks 😊👍🏾

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  2 года назад

      Yes would work well to listen to UHF, VHF and DMR. Would also give you the ability to TX when license obtained. Its probably the best route to take on a cost basis as well. Its hard to beat the Anytones features for the price and a dedicated scanner fully supporting DMR is not going to be much cheaper. Its a nice little radio and am sure you will enjoy using it. @NLKMediaGroup  2 месяца назад

      In order to use Digital Radio and communicate with others you need to register and get added to the contact database. If you want to hold the entire database on the radio then it needs to have capacity. The database currently runs at around 265k contacts so the Anytone has plenty of space left. Maybe there could be a new icon on the radio boxes in the future, DMDS (Digital Mobile Dating Service) but I think the mobile phones have that well and truly covered :-) All the best and thanks for watching.
