I work for a major gas dealer and I fill those tanks I have seen them go back all the way to 1900 they get retested every 5-10 years and as long as it passes it goes back into rotation

Dana 35s are known for grenading themselves, cheap upgrade is the 8.8 from an Explorer. The Dana 30 is basically a 44, should be fine maybe chrome molly axles to make it a little stronger. Yes, the 4.0 was the last good Jeep motor.
Dude, thats so cool that your welding tank comes from Linde!!! Thats where i work, ive been there just shy of 20 years, and in the industry for 26 years. Those dates stamped in the tank are for their retest dates required by the DOT for safety reasons ...dont want em exploding under pressure during transport. The oldest cylinder I've personally handled was from 1896 as shown by the test dates stamped into the cylinder. Alot of em from the early 1900s too. Hard to imagine that those cylinders have made it thru World War one, and World War two, and everything since!!! I love your content Alex, been a subscriber for several years. Sweet Jeep Alex! I'm no professional welder but I have been doing it for years as a hobby. Your tungsten touching the work piece is instantly contaminating your weld and tungsten...which your machine basically does from the start, so youre at a disadvantage already. Get yourself a dedicated grinder and re grind your tungsten every time that happens. Or just have a few ground and ready to swap out. Also, clean everything heavily with some acetone. I know this is readily available info but it really helps alot. Keep practicing!
With tig welding you do not need to strike an arc, that will contaminate the tungsten and make the arc harder to consentrate thus dispersing heat randomly and causing blow through. Also if welding a thick steel to very thin steal like a fuel rail, try and pre heat the thicker metal, also wait to add filler rod until you see the weld pool form, you are more or less pulling the weld pool through the weld during the tig process. @elias842it's a truly flawed design. Basically using the same dc transformer box as a stick welder. Welding aluminum with a dc welder is horrible, even if it does have a pedal, you can't break past the oxidation on aluminum without a pulse width modulated ac Tig machine. (its literally instant, even right after it's been cleaned).

I literally did this exact same build to my 2006 TJ back in 2013, custom tuned by Bob Kurgan and everything. Still have it, still love it. Been fun to watch you experience the joy of a turbo jeep.
You need the workpiece to be in a more comfortable position for welding. One of the best tips for a beginner welder. Have either your filler or torch hand leaning against something to steady your hand.
Alex, as a professional fabricator (45 years)who went to welding school I will tell you that Tig welding something like that is simply a matter of experience, to get good you just have to do it and continue to do it!
I have a 2006 TJ Rubicon with straight 6. It has front and rear lockers and Dana 44 axles. You may want to change your axles and drive lines to a beefier set up because the amount of horsepower you are adding will be too much for it on or off road especially if you increase your tire size. Great Jeep series btw and you’ve given me some food for thought.
In Canada, after converting liters to gallons and working over the exchange rate... We are paying $5.29 per gallon in Manitoba. Fuel prices suck right now. Also wanna add, be sure to get the good under carriage wash done after having it out in the snow. Consider applying a really good rust prevention fluid to the underside.

Leave the exhaust. If you anticipate much snow, pull the 35”s, get some true winter tires. You will not believe the difference in grip level compared to off road tires in both acceleration and stopping power.

3:36 Throw all that away and get an aeromotive external inline pump. A tube and sock can replace the module pump. That way the gauges still work. A simple bulkhead fitting drilled in top of the tank makes an easy return. After we removed the turbo setup we left the fuel pump stuff. We even used Ford injectors and kept those as well. The only problem is that it idles rich at cold start. It still runs today. Its been over five years post turbo.
Used to weld for the Nissan Manufacturer in Smyrna, TN. Have literally made millions of welds. Wife got me a 120 lincoln for father's day and i struggle with it lol. Don't worry I'm sure you'll get it fairly quickly! Hey from Coral, IL!
The welder makes a huge difference. I've heard it has to do with the harbor freight machines sine wave frequency is different and doesn't weld the same. I started with a harbor freight machine and moved up to a Lincoln and the difference was night and day
So... This reminds me of a Jeep friend of mine. He super charged his 3.6L JKU (4 door). This thing freakin' RIPPED!!! Well, he found out the hard way that you should never put the Jeep in 4 LOW and then floor it... He twisted the front drive shaft right off...like twisting taffy apart... His Jeep name was then changed to "Twisted Me"

Love the Jeep build so much. I am building a 1999 Cherokee 4.0L Auto. To make it live around 10 psi of boost I first pulled the engine and Installed ARP Head Studs and a Mahle MLS head gasket. I put a Comp cam and Lifters and Ovate Valve Springs. Scorpion aluminum roller rockers (Amazing company to work with). New timing chain set and Balancer. Crown aluminum valve cover. Melling high volume oil pump and push rods. Flow Kooler water pump and thermostat. 3 row aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. Summit high output coil. Accel dis cap & rotor with NGK wires and plugs. Flowmaster Flow FX stainless exhaust 2 ½ mandrel exhaust. We have been waiting since November 2003 for a Boosted Technology's side mount supercharger kit to be built with delay after delay. We were planning on making 10 psi of boost with the blower. It uses a split second controller for a 7th injector and timing control. I am glad to see this video on your fuel system upgrades would love to talk to you directly about doing a comparison test series between the 2 different power adder options. I think we could make some awesome content.
07:30 That braided stainless steel line will wear a hole in your vacuum line, and / or rubber fuel line from vibration if you have them zip tied together like that...

I've been driving 4x4s since 1970 we had a CJ5 with a Buick V6 and could pull front wheels off the ground in 1st gear. Looks like a lot of fun but beware of the short wheel base, they like to turn around very fast and at that point you are out of control and just along for the ride!

Alex my 2012 jeep liberty has 256k miles , no ticks, no leaks, no rust and its the v6 in ohio! Thats with standard maintenance, oil changes etc. We love our jeeps 🚙!!!!
Can't speak directly to Wyotech because I chose UTI instead. Almost chose Wyotech though. What I will say with any of these programs, it is what you make of it. I've seen people come out of both of those programs that were as dumb as a box of rocks and I'd never allow them to touch my vehicle. While others came out as fairly competent technicians. The thing is....90% of the competent ones were already well versed in turning a wrench and were looking for a way to jump start their career. If you work your butt off, get good grades, and apply yourself there are a lot of decent opportunities coming out of those programs. However not all of those opportunities are where you thought you would find yourself in. I spent a few years in dealerships and then BAM ended up working on the railroad as a Carman (railcar mechanic). All I'm saying is....keep an open mind and see where it takes ya. @kylenunn5454 yeah UTI and Wyotech are pretty different in their approach. UTI for the most part tries to get you in the mindset of working at a dealership. Classwork, lab work, professionalism, attendance, etc... Whereas Wyotech (at least at the time) was more for hotrod/fabrication type work. The kid can't go wrong with diesel though. I've had friends that graduated from both programs that are in all types of industries. Some have their own shops, some work for dealers, performance modifications, fork truck shops, etc... Heck I got one friend that did UTIs diesel program that has had a career with Disney out here in Orlando for the better part of 20 years. If your boy keeps his mind open there's an overabundance of work out there.
I love the way this dude builds, especially this budget style...It's just so much cooler then having a $$$$ speed shop throw everything at a project. Gettin' creative and resourceful. Very sweet.

Swap the transmission to a six speed. Because that five speed is a piece of crap. I had the same model Jeep and that five speed even stock was horrible on the highway
21:29 "those gauges pull just like a couple of amps so this is gonna be good". The fuse is there to protect the wire in the event of a short. Your fuse should blow before your wire burns. Amp draw from the components determine how many circuits you need as the wire tolerance takes precedence. Food for thought.
I'm surprised you don't have a hot water pressure washer. Maybe I'm a tad bit odd about cleaning before I work on stuff? It sure does make it nice when everything is crud free before wrenching.
The two absolutely vital peices of equipment for creating the best reconditioning results in a garage that are WAY too often missing are 1. A blasting cabinet. And 2. At least a medium sized ultrasonic cleaner. I’ve hen pecked many friends into getting both in their garage or workshop. The most common comment afterwards beside “Thanks for being so annoying about those two things”, lol, was “Game changer.” 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Alex, hate to correct you but Duct tape got its name from being water proof(aka Duct) . First made for the military to keep ammo can’s water tight. Yup used for air duct work but not how it got its name. Another great video, thanks.
Close... It was developed for a lot of uses, not just military and it was called "duck tape" originally because the ability to repel water similar to a ducks feathers. Later made its way into HVAC and was officially named "duct tape"
So long as you don't go crazy with the boost, that engine will handle it just fine. Use 4.2L crank and rods and turn that 4.0 into a 4.5L. 450hp/600ft-lbs with 18-20psi boost, someone did it 15 years ago. The torque curve was ultra flat on-boost.
Back in 98 I dropped a 5.2l out of a truck (upgraded to magnum RT cam and lifters) in my 97 TJ. I ended up having to install reverse cut dana 60s front and rear with ARBs and a custom long arm 4 link suspension; Atlas II t-case; and a NV4500. I also installed a vortech supercharger and intercooler. We had to run a msd ignition and auxiliary fuel pump. I could not find someone back then to “flash” the computer. It would pull the front tires off the ground. Be ready to fix little things- sometimes big things- whenever you venture out. It is a Jeep thing.
I have an 1989 Cherokee with the 4.0 . It has 390,000 miles and runs almost perfectly It runs very strong and I I drive it to work every day to work 70 miles each way running 70 plus on these back roads here in Texas. I love your channel. Would like to turbo that Cherokee but there’s no room up front. Maybe mount two little turbo’s back by the rear end? Anyway yeah great motors!

Many years ago I heard/read that the BMW 2.8L was tank of an engine and very great for boosting, but what you have as a base is a 4L. With a decent boost that thing should scare most people!! So i wonder what an even better turbo would do for it. Me with a 97 Wrangler Sport and envy in my heart. The wave is for Jeeps... not the other things made by the company that has a name that includes Jeep.
I definitely am not judging cuz I learned to weld at home over the years and still am not a great pro at it but, I have tried scratch tig welding and it's way too hard to do, especially for beginners! You need to get a pedal welder with pedal start so you don't dirty up your tungsten and you can control the heat. Trust me it's the difference between night and day I promise you!
23:41 Wow. Wichita, Kansas at Jump Start, 93 octane is $2.45. All other gas stations only have up to 91 and it is $3.09. Yes, that is correct. In fact at the Jump Start it is more for regular unleaded or 87 octane at $2.54. Prices are all over the place here. I use the Gas Buddy app and it's crazy how much the prices change, even if you pick 1 brand.
That's so sweet Alex..I went a little larger injectors and a few MM larger throttle body on mine with a Banks header and was looking for another 4.0 to create a stroker motor..now I wish I still had it I'd go the route you went..damn that looks so awesome. Hi Alex. Just a quick tip for next time. You should have inverted the work piece so that gravity was on your side instead of working aganst it. Also, this would allow you to put the heat into the thicker piece and let it travel into the thinner section which is much less aggressive on the thin material. As someone has already said, you do not need to strike the arc when tig welding, in fact do all you can to keep the tungsten tip from making contact with the work piece = ) All best for 2025 !
I luv ❤ the Jeep, you did so well to get a good solid one without nasty rust issues. I also live in an area with heavy snow 🇨🇦, I've had a couple of Cherokees but I can see a Wrangler sometime in the future.
It is crazy to see a 4.0 with a turbo kit! These engines were so stout. A guy I worked with before had one that the oil hadn't been changed in 10's of thousands of miles. Under the valve cover looked like oil pancakes. But that thing still ran well somehow! You can't kill them.
I am going to tell you right now that the stock pistons in this engine are made from some of the absolute weakest, most pussified aluminum known to man, and they absolutely will not live with boost or added heat. The stock radiator is also going to be a problem, which is somewhat related to the piston issue, as when they see any kind of excessive heat, the pistons will crack or shatter entirely. I upgraded to a fully welded aluminum radiator (which is also a bit thicker) due to the plastic end tanks constantly developing leaks, on the stock-style replacements. Also have replaced all of the pistons with hypereutectic aluminum ones. Investing in the DEI heat shielding kit for the injectors, fuel rail, and intake is also a must-do on these motors. The kit is relatively inexpensive and makes a huge difference.....aside from the fact you threw the stock stuff in the trash in a previous video.
Not sure about the harbor freight welders but most of those small machines like that have a settings reference sheet on the inside of the door where the spool goes. It'll give you a good starting point, biggest thing is material type and thickness.
Trying to weld aluminum with a scratch start dc tig is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. Ac tig is the only way to break the corrosion layer that instantly forms forms on aluminum even freshly cleaned. And the modulaton from a pedal makes it possible to keep the arc focused on the thicker fitting, not on the paper thin fuel rail.

Welcome to Jeep life, those windshields are magnets for road debris. Axles will be the weak point and are easy to upgrade. Those 4.0's are a great engine with proper maint. I've had several configurations from Buick v6 to 4.0's then went SBC on a few. Def a fun platform for upgrades. On a side note....when are your pen lights shipping?

Fantastic engine for sure!! But nothing beats the longevity of the 22r Toyota engine and nothing ever will!! Get a decent set of 44s for axles, much more cost effective and plenty strong!!
i think you need to get a foot pedal for that machine or get another machine with a foot pedal. every time you strike the material some of it will be deposited on the tungsten, contaminating it. once the tungsten is contaminated it will create an unstable arc, contaminates in the weld pool etc.... plus with the foot pedal you have a finer control over the heat. if you're blowing holes just back off the throttle.
Only ever seen 1 turbo 4.0 on an XJ that used to come to the drag strip years ago out in Bithlo. If I'm not mistaken dude also had it stroked out as well. Dude was consistently running low 6 to mid 5 sec 1/8 mile times. Was pretty cool.
Port match the exhaust ports to the gasket!? The exhaust runners are tiny.. and when tig welding count off in your head as you dip the rod like a clock ticking the seconds away. It helps with uniform puddles and right pace.
I pay $3.86 for premium 93 grade, Northern MI goin in a 2016 Focus RS... Before you ask, yes it has the correct gaskets lol. Much love Alex! you the man!
Almost all straight 6's by any manufacturer is good. The 4.0, the ol 225, 250 & 292 Chevy, the Atlas motors from GM, and of course, close to the top the Ford 300. 6 in a row, built to haul, or something like that 😁
I liked this Jeep at the beginning, and though I prefer superchargers, this turbo kit has held its own. And yeah, it does try to lift the front tires, which is a sign of "Mo Powah"! Better put in an order for new axles now.😁👍
please run the wastegate dump in the exhaust it does sound pretty bad when it hits boost it would sound alot better on the inside of the car less rasp but either way do whatever its not my car
Might be worthwhile to look into learning how to 3d model and 3d print yourself some parts like the gauge pod and some other spacers etc. You can print carbon fiber/nylon/abs parts on a Bambu lab X1C and they’re cheaper than a lot of the parts you install in each episode. Might be worth a look sorta like your foray into learning to weld. Especially as you are doing things for situations where parts don’t exist anymore or as you invent or fabricate.

in order of ring and pinion size and strength dana 30 35 44, the 44 is pretty close to the 8.8 in strength.
Everything’s been upgraded on his. Chromoly shafts too.

How fo you get the arc going on the welder alex has since it doesnt have a pedal?
Actually, he is using a scratch start welder. Most budget tig welders are scratch start.

You may want to change your axles and drive lines to a beefier set up because the amount of horsepower you are adding will be too much for it on or off road especially if you increase your tire size. Great Jeep series btw and you’ve given me some food for thought.

In Canada, after converting liters to gallons and working over the exchange rate... We are paying $5.29 per gallon in Manitoba. Fuel prices suck right now. Also wanna add, be sure to get the good under carriage wash done after having it out in the snow. Consider applying a really good rust prevention fluid to the underside.

Leave the exhaust. If you anticipate much snow, pull the 35”s, get some true winter tires. You will not believe the difference in grip level compared to off road tires in both acceleration and stopping power.

3:36 Throw all that away and get an aeromotive external inline pump. A tube and sock can replace the module pump. That way the gauges still work. A simple bulkhead fitting drilled in top of the tank makes an easy return. After we removed the turbo setup we left the fuel pump stuff. We even used Ford injectors and kept those as well. The only problem is that it idles rich at cold start. It still runs today. Its been over five years post turbo.

The welder makes a huge difference. I've heard it has to do with the harbor freight machines sine wave frequency is different and doesn't weld the same. I started with a harbor freight machine and moved up to a Lincoln and the difference was night and day
So... This reminds me of a Jeep friend of mine. He super charged his 3.6L JKU (4 door). This thing freakin' RIPPED!!! Well, he found out the hard way that you should never put the Jeep in 4 LOW and then floor it... He twisted the front drive shaft right off...like twisting taffy apart... His Jeep name was then changed to "Twisted Me"

Love the Jeep build so much. I am building a 1999 Cherokee 4.0L Auto. To make it live around 10 psi of boost I first pulled the engine and Installed ARP Head Studs and a Mahle MLS head gasket. I put a Comp cam and Lifters and Ovate Valve Springs. Scorpion aluminum roller rockers (Amazing company to work with). New timing chain set and Balancer. Crown aluminum valve cover. Melling high volume oil pump and push rods. Flow Kooler water pump and thermostat. 3 row aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. Summit high output coil. Accel dis cap & rotor with NGK wires and plugs. Flowmaster Flow FX stainless exhaust 2 ½ mandrel exhaust. We have been waiting since November 2003 for a Boosted Technology's side mount supercharger kit to be built with delay after delay. We were planning on making 10 psi of boost with the blower. It uses a split second controller for a 7th injector and timing control. I am glad to see this video on your fuel system upgrades would love to talk to you directly about doing a comparison test series between the 2 different power adder options. I think we could make some awesome content.
07:30 That braided stainless steel line will wear a hole in your vacuum line, and / or rubber fuel line from vibration if you have them zip tied together like that...

I've been driving 4x4s since 1970 we had a CJ5 with a Buick V6 and could pull front wheels off the ground in 1st gear. Looks like a lot of fun but beware of the short wheel base, they like to turn around very fast and at that point you are out of control and just along for the ride!

Alex my 2012 jeep liberty has 256k miles , no ticks, no leaks, no rust and its the v6 in ohio! Thats with standard maintenance, oil changes etc. We love our jeeps 🚙!!!!

Can't speak directly to Wyotech because I chose UTI instead. Almost chose Wyotech though. What I will say with any of these programs, it is what you make of it. I've seen people come out of both of those programs that were as dumb as a box of rocks and I'd never allow them to touch my vehicle. While others came out as fairly competent technicians. The thing is....90% of the competent ones were already well versed in turning a wrench and were looking for a way to jump start their career. If you work your butt off, get good grades, and apply yourself there are a lot of decent opportunities coming out of those programs. However not all of those opportunities are where you thought you would find yourself in. I spent a few years in dealerships and then BAM ended up working on the railroad as a Carman (railcar mechanic). All I'm saying is....keep an open mind and see where it takes ya. @kylenunn5454 yeah UTI and Wyotech are pretty different in their approach. UTI for the most part tries to get you in the mindset of working at a dealership. Classwork, lab work, professionalism, attendance, etc... Whereas Wyotech (at least at the time) was more for hotrod/fabrication type work. The kid can't go wrong with diesel though. I've had friends that graduated from both programs that are in all types of industries. Some have their own shops, some work for dealers, performance modifications, fork truck shops, etc... Heck I got one friend that did UTIs diesel program that has had a career with Disney out here in Orlando for the better part of 20 years. If your boy keeps his mind open there's an overabundance of work out there.
I love the way this dude builds, especially this budget style...It's just so much cooler then having a $$$$ speed shop throw everything at a project. Gettin' creative and resourceful. Very sweet.

21:29 "those gauges pull just like a couple of amps so this is gonna be good". The fuse is there to protect the wire in the event of a short. Your fuse should blow before your wire burns. Amp draw from the components determine how many circuits you need as the wire tolerance takes precedence. Food for thought.

The two absolutely vital peices of equipment for creating the best reconditioning results in a garage that are WAY too often missing are 1. A blasting cabinet. And 2. At least a medium sized ultrasonic cleaner. I’ve hen pecked many friends into getting both in their garage or workshop. The most common comment afterwards beside “Thanks for being so annoying about those two things”, lol, was “Game changer.” 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Alex, hate to correct you but Duct tape got its name from being water proof(aka Duct) . First made for the military to keep ammo can’s water tight. Yup used for air duct work but not how it got its name. Another great video, thanks.
Close... It was developed for a lot of uses, not just military and it was called "duck tape" originally because the ability to repel water similar to a ducks feathers. Later made its way into HVAC and was officially named "duct tape"
So long as you don't go crazy with the boost, that engine will handle it just fine. Use 4.2L crank and rods and turn that 4.0 into a 4.5L. 450hp/600ft-lbs with 18-20psi boost, someone did it 15 years ago. The torque curve was ultra flat on-boost.

Back in 98 I dropped a 5.2l out of a truck (upgraded to magnum
RT cam and lifters) in my 97 TJ. I ended up having to install reverse cut dana 60s front and rear with ARBs and a custom long arm 4 link suspension; Atlas II t-case; and a NV4500. I also installed a vortech supercharger and intercooler. We had to run a msd ignition and auxiliary fuel pump. I could not find someone back then to “flash” the computer. It would pull the front tires off the ground. Be ready to fix little things- sometimes big things- whenever you venture out. It is a Jeep thing.
I have an 1989 Cherokee with the 4.0 . It has 390,000 miles and runs almost perfectly It runs very strong and I I drive it to work every day to work 70 miles each way running 70 plus on these back roads here in Texas. I love your channel. Would like to turbo that Cherokee but there’s no room up front. Maybe mount two little turbo’s back by the rear end? Anyway yeah great motors!

Many years ago I heard/read that the BMW 2.8L was tank of an engine and very great for boosting, but what you have as a base is a 4L. With a decent boost that thing should scare most people!! So i wonder what an even better turbo would do for it. Me with a 97 Wrangler Sport and envy in my heart.

I definitely am not judging cuz I learned to weld at home over the years and still am not a great pro at it but, I have tried scratch tig welding and it's way too hard to do, especially for beginners! You need to get a pedal welder with pedal start so you don't dirty up your tungsten and you can control the heat. Trust me it's the difference between night and day I promise you!
23:41 Wow. Wichita, Kansas at Jump Start, 93 octane is $2.45. All other gas stations only have up to 91 and it is $3.09. Yes, that is correct. In fact at the Jump Start it is more for regular unleaded or 87 octane at $2.54. Prices are all over the place here. I use the Gas Buddy app and it's crazy how much the prices change, even if you pick 1 brand.

I have aero Saab as a daily, and it is perfect for picking my kid up, and using it as a grocery getter. 👌🏻

Hi Alex. Just a quick tip for next time. You should have inverted the work piece so that gravity was on your side instead of working aganst it. Also, this would allow you to put the heat into the thicker piece and let it travel into the thinner section which is much less aggressive on the thin material. As someone has already said, you do not need to strike the arc when tig welding, in fact do all you can to keep the tungsten tip from making contact with the work piece = ) All best for 2025 !

It is crazy to see a 4.0 with a turbo kit! These engines were so stout. A guy I worked with before had one that the oil hadn't been changed in 10's of thousands of miles. Under the valve cover looked like oil pancakes. But that thing still ran well somehow! You can't kill them.
The pistons and the cooling system are the weak links.

I am going to tell you right now that the stock pistons in this engine are made from some of the absolute weakest, most pussified aluminum known to man, and they absolutely will not live with boost or added heat.
The stock radiator is also going to be a problem, which is somewhat related to the piston issue, as when they see any kind of excessive heat, the pistons will crack or shatter entirely.
I upgraded to a fully welded aluminum radiator (which is also a bit thicker) due to the plastic end tanks constantly developing leaks, on the stock-style replacements. Also have replaced all of the pistons with hypereutectic aluminum ones.
Investing in the DEI heat shielding kit for the injectors, fuel rail, and intake is also a must-do on these motors. The kit is relatively inexpensive and makes a huge difference.....aside from the fact you threw the stock stuff in the trash in a previous video.
Same on thermostat housing gasket on 4.0: stock was terrible, aftermarket with RTV terrible, Fel Pro fiber w/silicone beads…flawless.
Not sure about the harbor freight welders but most of those small machines like that have a settings reference sheet on the inside of the door where the spool goes. It'll give you a good starting point, biggest thing is material type and thickness.
Trying to weld aluminum with a scratch start dc tig is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.
Ac tig is the only way to break the corrosion layer that instantly forms forms on aluminum even freshly cleaned. And the modulaton from a pedal makes it possible to keep the arc focused on the thicker fitting, not on the paper thin fuel rail.

Welcome to Jeep life, those windshields are magnets for road debris. Axles will be the weak point and are easy to upgrade. Those 4.0's are a great engine with proper maint. I've had several configurations from Buick v6 to 4.0's then went SBC on a few. Def a fun platform for upgrades. On a side note....when are your pen lights shipping?

Get a decent set of 44s for axles, much more cost effective and plenty strong!!
If the welder has a pulse setting you can focus the pulse on the thick side and wash it down to the thin rail in the dwell
I know your welding frustration. I also went to WYOTECH IN 04 and only weld once every 10 years or so. It is definitely an art that requires practice.
i think you need to get a foot pedal for that machine or get another machine with a foot pedal. every time you strike the material some of it will be deposited on the tungsten, contaminating it. once the tungsten is contaminated it will create an unstable arc, contaminates in the weld pool etc.... plus with the foot pedal you have a finer control over the heat. if you're blowing holes just back off the throttle.

Only ever seen 1 turbo 4.0 on an XJ that used to come to the drag strip years ago out in Bithlo. If I'm not mistaken dude also had it stroked out as well. Dude was consistently running low 6 to mid 5 sec 1/8 mile times. Was pretty cool.

Port match the exhaust ports to the gasket!? The exhaust runners are tiny.. and when tig welding count off in your head as you dip the rod like a clock ticking the seconds away. It helps with uniform puddles and right pace.
I pay $3.86 for premium 93 grade, Northern MI goin in a 2016 Focus RS... Before you ask, yes it has the correct gaskets lol. Much love Alex! you the man!
Almost all straight 6's by any manufacturer is good. The 4.0, the ol 225, 250 & 292 Chevy, the Atlas motors from GM, and of course, close to the top the Ford 300. 6 in a row, built to haul, or something like that 😁
Don't feel bad Alex. I bought a really nice welder too, tried to learn and needless to say it's for sale right now. Some of just don't have it.
I liked this Jeep at the beginning, and though I prefer superchargers, this turbo kit has held its own. And yeah, it does try to lift the front tires, which is a sign of "Mo Powah"! Better put in an order for new axles now.😁👍

please run the wastegate dump in the exhaust it does sound pretty bad when it hits boost it would sound alot better on the inside of the car less rasp but either way do whatever its not my car

You have to sharpen the tungsten once you dip it. The diamond blade adapter for the Dremel is the way to go.
Might be worthwhile to look into learning how to 3d model and 3d print yourself some parts like the gauge pod and some other spacers etc. You can print carbon fiber/nylon/abs parts on a Bambu lab X1C and they’re cheaper than a lot of the parts you install in each episode. Might be worth a look sorta like your foray into learning to weld. Especially as you are doing things for situations where parts don’t exist anymore or as you invent or fabricate.
Former jeep guy from Chicago, be careful in the snow. That thing was to light and slide everywhere, almost rolled it 5-6 times on the street.
