Simone Biles, once again, has done the impossible. During the 2024 US Olympic Gymnastics Trials, she unveiled a new move that has everyone talking. This isn’t just another addition to her already impressive repertoire; it’s a game-changer. Can you believe how she keeps pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gymnastics?
It’s called the Yurchenko double pike, and it’s as complex as it sounds. To pull this off, Simone starts with a roundoff onto the springboard, followed by a back handspring onto the vaulting table. But here’s where it gets mind-blowing… instead of the usual layout or tuck position, she executes two flips with her body piked, legs straight and together. This move has a difficulty score of 6.4, making it one of the hardest vaults in women’s gymnastics. Think about the strength, precision, and sheer guts it takes to do that. One wrong move, and you’re looking at a serious injury, but Biles makes it look like a walk in the park.

The Yurchenko Double pike isn't a new vault Simone started competing it at the World Championships in Germany 5 yrs. ago and first tried to compete it at the Olympics in Tokyo 3 years ago but got the twisties

No shes not the GOAT Olgas the GOAT, infact Simone readily admits there are Olga executions she cant do. Also, frankly, and this is what everyone said when Biles first came out in Rio or whenever is that they missed the old days when female Gymnasts like OLGA and NADIA had grace, it wasnt all about muscle. And frankly, I agree, I DONT find Biles particularly pleasant to watch its just like a gorilla tumbling, theres no beauty in it, they said the same thing about Mary Lou Henner, all muscle, no grace. Yet the Americans were always the first to bag the Chinese athletes in events like figure skating that the Chinese were always all technical no artisty yet they have collective amnesia when it comes to their own athletes.
Maybe the word "gymnastics" have a lot to do with it! I imagine, if you are a gymnast then your visible quality would be...well to be athletic, strong, wiry, and yes muscles too. Now if you are a "figure skater" etc, then gracefulness can come into play. A "gorilla" you say? I see plenty of beauty in " this tiny human" going after her goals, creating magic and hope along the way and standing for a country who's notoriously known for people like you. Be better sir!
