Thank you Susan. I live in a small cottage by the lake. Fell in love as soon as I walked thru the door. It was very cabin-like, with too much wood for my taste. I painted the panelled cathedral ceiling white and the walls a pale blue grey. What a transformation. Now I want to tackle the wood kitchen cabinets. White on top and medium/dark blue on lowers. I still love coming home to this tiny sanctuary. I retired here 6 years ago. I need to tackle the bedroom clutter too. A monumental task.
It sounds like you have a lovely home! The the pale blue would be so relaxing. I painted my kitchen cabinets a few years ago; they turned out fantastic. It's a big job, but makes such an impact! Just make sure you get paint that is specifically for that job, and sand the cupboards before you paint.
Thank you, Susan ! Wonderful tips. Out of all of these , decluttering is what comes to mind for me the most. It’s so therapeutic. Makes a small space bigger ! I have a bag of donations by the door as I type.
Hi Susan from Ireland. I am not an apartment dweller, I live in a traditional Irish weavers cottage, but I came across your videos and I am hooked. I love the way you present them in such a relaxed way. Your apartment is beautiful and I appreciate your advice on various topics. Looking forward to your next videos.
Another great video Susan 👍👏 ALL your previous videos were also on top ! 😊 With the well chosen quotes, the included pictures 👍 Making videos is a BIG work ! NOT a 5-minutes-thing ! So: 👏 🤣 those people living in a mushroom farm 🤣 I also know such people 😉 always frightening sunlight because of their sofas, tapestry and so on fading... Great advices and such true words in your today video! For myself I love LED flickering candles (as calming than real ones and without the danger of a fire so... I can fall asleep quietly 😊) Another good thing: plants, also from the seed to the adult plant (it gives so much hope and confidence). MY personal great advice: guys ! Put your phone on "silent". You see who called and, should you want, you may call back. I worked many years in an open plan office, customer-department, many phones ringing all day long... I'm so happy that the RUclips algorythm showed me this channel 👍👏 Thanks and go for, Susan 😊
Thank you so much, Veronique for your very kind comments and encouragement! It's so appreciated! Yes, your suggestions are all great ways to create serenity and calm in a home. I believe I need to do a Part 2 one day; I've had so many great suggestions!
Hi, Susan - I could not find the story about how you became a apartment dweller from home owner. I clicked it but kept showing your profile. I would love to read your unique story as I'm in my 60's. Love from Florida

There is nothing like opening your blinds on a beautiful sunny day! On dreary Winter days I turn lamps on fill area with light … ! Loved your Vlog! Your voice is soothing to listen to! Hope you have a wonderful week!🌈🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
I like to place strings of miniature lights around, especially those that have warm white/candlelight glow. I even have a curtain of ten strings 😊of twinkle lights in my main living room. Perfect for Christmas, but equally beautiful throughout the entire year. Our 100+ year old apartment has lots of natural light and very high ceilings which adds to its charm.
Some landlords will let you paint if you agree to change the walls back to the original colour before you move out. I’m over “accent walls”. I like all the walls to be white so I can change colour schemes by changing objects in the room. Or slip covers on furniture that can be changed to other colours. You had some other good suggestions. Especially cleaning.
Cleaning can actually be a kind of therapy, once a routine gets established to keep it from be overwhelming. I almost feel my house saying "thank you!" when I do my weekly upkeep clean. Thanks for the video, Susan. You yourself are a calming influence for me.💜
I like to have music in my home. Sometimes I need lovely, peaceful music to slow down with. Other times, like when cleaning house, music seems to give me the energy to get up and get going.
Great advice. There are always ways to create a more calming atmosphere. You also have a calming tone and voice. Your videos are inspiring! Keep ‘em coming. ❤
I put a gas fireplace in my home and it is so welcome this time of year. It helps heat the space while providing wonderful ambiance to my little sitting area. Good luck with your channel. 💗
I live in the UK and t the moment is pretty grey outside but I try to make the most of the natural daylight. I’m lucky that I have a large window in my living room that lets in lots of daylight and although I have curtains I never close them even when it’s dark. The only curtains I close are me bedroom ones when I got to sleep all the others stay open. My neighbours have net curtains on their windows and they look like this block out so much light.

Yes, that's a great idea too! Any warm, soft light is very relaxing. Thanks for the comment!
Your home should be your sanctuary especially if retired as your house/apartment is where you'll spend most of your time.

Yes, slip covers! Another great inexpensive idea; thank you Jay!
