There are several channels, of americans and not only, who moved to Russia, and who can help you, with the TV / streams of sports thing..if you just contact them and ask..It is almost a comunity that sometimes even participate in streams, just sharing experiences.. Links are not allowed in comments that i could leave you with, but I am almost sure, that if you look for "EXPAT American" "Moscow Photographer", or others..
..yandex images can help when different terms are used, like the gym stuff.. "RUTUBE" is "youtube equivalent", and from what i've seen, has streams and "TV online".. But i would ask "EXPAT American" (Joseph i think his name is).. Don't hesitate on contacting him!

In Russia, there is a sports ladder that is attached to the wall. It is called the Swedish Wall. It was invented by a Swedish doctor, for gymnastic exercises. There are such things in every gym, in kindergartens, schools, universities and everywhere where they play sports.
And now, there are many options for home. My brother bought himself one of the options where, in addition to the Swedish ladder, there is a rope for climbing, a crossbar for pulling up, a rope ladder and gymnastic rings, gymnasts practice on such. And my brother, along with the children, is studying on this Swedish staircase.
I also saw an option where a bench is included, for bodybuilding, to pump the abdominal muscles and lift dumbbells while lying on the bench. And also, there is a corner included to lift the whole body on it, to train the triceps and lift the legs, to a right angle, to train the abdomen.
I hope the automatic translator translated everything correctly.

Regarding your language learning I would sincerely recommend that you prioritise learning Russian through observing the environment and interacting with people, but not through learning grammar and all these rules. As a Russian person who also has a lot of experience in learning foreign languages the structure of our language is indeed very complicated and there’s a reason why kids in Russian schools learn it for all 11 years and then they take the Final State Exam in Russian language which has the average score of 64/100 (as of 2024)🫠 It’s not that they can’t speak Russian perfectly, no, it’s the grammar which is a thing of its own. Learning Russian from rules and textbooks as a second language will make it unnecessarily complex, please make this journey easier for yourself🙏 speaking as much as you can will absolutely accelerate the process. P.S.

I also want to say, take a simpler approach to learning the Russian language. Our grammar is really complex, especially in those moments where there are no rules and many exceptions. To begin with, it is enough to learn as many words as possible. Even if you speak in the nominative case and infinitive, and use conjunctions between words, you will absolutely be understood. Yes, and you will understand what we are talking about when you listen.

They serve the residents of the region for free, the rest pay, the replacement of the lens costs $ 800-900. I went to all the procedures with my father, the clinic is impressive. 350 surgical operations are performed per day, just imagine. And how many examinations and other procedures. I was amazed.

About the medical treatement, there is a simple explanation, you just need to look at the cost to study to become a doctor in Russia compare to in USA or anywhere. In US many cant afford med institutes or cant get enough score to get in one, and choose something else. So US education system simply not provides people with opportunity the same way Russian education system does: even a poor kid who study hard can become a doctor, simply because it very cheap or free if he pass entry exam with high scores, and more demanding school education in Russia prepare young people for very hard discipline like medical degree, engineering, science etc.
Oh and I wont even mention student debt in US, that some thing so extreme, it just so hard for me to comprehend when I was first told about that concept in US, the society allowed Banks to enslave their youth through education...

You can also get many things from rapid delivery services like Samokat and Yandex Lavka, there you can get get a toothbrush or freashly baked croissant in 15 minutes.
If you need large stores like Walmart supercenters checkout Globus supermarkets, they are originally from Germany, in my opinion its better than any Walmart.
I lived all over the United States for a decade and can assure you that roads in Moscow are maintained better than anywhere in the US.
The only thing i miss about the US is better highway infrastructure, where you can get pretty much anywhere. On the other hand Russia's railroad infrastructure is better.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it's so valuable to have some critics from fresh sights. And you right, we have a number of problems here, but it's kinda difficult thing-we have had devastating 90-00 years. So, many new cool things appear for these last 25 years. We are trying our best, really. For example, look how many new modern highways developed today in Russia. Yes, most of it is toll one, but it has a has a reasonable cost. Plus some modern railways. Huge developer activity, new manufactures, etc. I believe in this country, it definitely has a future.

@@ericpiccione fun fact about peanut butter. It was invented by John Kellog (yes the cereal guy). He was trying in his sanatarium to decrease the testosterone in males. So he wanted to omit butter from the diet. Therefore he created peanut butter. So, Europe didn’t pick up on modern food (made in the last 125 years) versus traditional foods. IMO John Kellogg was creepy man. Adopted 40 kids with his wife. But it’s claimed he never consecrated his marriage…..? Since the push today is “to eat the bugs and less meat”, if I were you, I’d eat butter and skip peanut butter. Less processed food is better anyway.
Another point, the Russians staring at you. We had travelled to South Africa where white is 12%. It is uncomfortable being stared at. But in Russia it’s probably because the locals staring at you haven’t travelled themselves. They haven’t had the chance to see foreigners. I’d take Russians staring at me all day compared to South Africans. Because you never could let your guard down. And we travelled with two teenagers daughters. I was not letting them get trafficked!!

Im waiting when you will talk about "mentality difference" . For example about friendship and relationship. .Like in USA you mostly use friend for everybody you know even 1 day and very rare is acquaintance.
the relationship in Russia better explain in example: Lets say our wifes going on yoga together and they decides to make a dinner ( go to restaurant or home). Ive meet you , introduce myself ,shake you hand - This is Stage 1 - Знакомый -acquaintance. This is all about basic information, i know how you looks, your name and that you are husband of my wife friend. We can talk ,try to find some "connection points" about job/hobbie etc. Right now thats it and you know same about me.
Stage 2 : Lets say that everybody was satisfied by dinner/time and we repeat this multiple times. I know better you, you know better me. We doesnt see each other regular , we have only 1 main reason to see each other - its our Wife`s and we fine with that. So that can be called "Приятель" - buddy.
Stage 3: Lets say that we found some connection points , like we going in same gym ,but in different days or both of us like cars or both of us like fishing/hunt , we are fine with character/ our temperament is cool / we dont hate each other etc - and we start to do something without our wifes ,regular , together ( more or less). Like hobbies . From this point we can be called Товарищ(comrade). Its like a teammate in sport
Stage 4: Friend and Best friend. - this is can happened or may not happened. Like after a long time or some events our relationship can be challenged about friendship. For example my wife get sick and i was busy on job/come late from job - ive asked you to take my kid from kid garden and you agreed.(ofc my kid have to know you and i will call to kid garden that my friend will take it). Or i was in hard finance situation and you helped me with money. After some bullshit which we going threw together we can call people a friend. The different between friend and best friend are personal. Usually we have 1-2-3 friends. Its also all about level of trust. Very often friend may be closer then parents or someone with blood-relationship/consanguinity.
Ofc some people doesnt use this words in that way. like beggars can say "friend, friend, help me with money" or young people using it like "slang"(something like "bro" in USA), but for most people word "friend" have very heavy weight. For many people its someone for whom you would die.
We have also very good song about that "Vladimir Vygotsky - friend"(on RUclips with subtitles)

Every 10 year old has experienced world leading opera and ballet, the upper balconies are free to kids if they have a student ID ...not just locals but any student from any country as long as their have photo ID card. A foreign student can get a photo ID while visiting the city.. 96% of adult Americans have never seen real ballet or opera. they have no access to it. The last time I was in the US with my Russian GF, she suggested an opera A qucck search showed that only opera that night in the entire USA was at the met. I went to get the ticket. I was shocked, 2 for mid grade seats were $1600!! WE went but I was disappointed, it was much lower quality then we are used to.

Pushkin card is just huge instrument for young people to go to different events. I live in Nizhny Novgorod, and i am tired to count how many festivals and cultural events we have.

Russian roads is a history on it's own, they just make then too weak from the get go, compared to roads in Finland and Germany, when that said there are climatic conditions in some parts that make roads a bit of a difficult puzzle to solve. The roads builders like to make the roads weak because it means that they will have work to do in the near future like 3-5 years, instead of 15-20 years if they used other road building standards, standards that cost a lot more money and materials to follow, so it is not a simple cheap solution to get good long stable roads in Russia.
There is being rolled out a lot of asphalt in Russia, many places get a new layer (even when not really needed), while other get their first layer, it is amazing if you compare to some 15-25 years ago, but especially the 90's was bad in many aspects.

Cheburek and shawarma aren't traditional Russian food. Most of the time, it could be safely assumed that if a dish contains a lot of meat, it was borrowed from Turkic people from around the Steppe during the Russian Empire or USSR times. People around the Steppe are or were nomads, nomads practice animal husbandry, and their cuisine is traditionally mainly based on meat. On the other hand, Eastern Slavs (including Russians) settled down and performed agriculture, so traditional Russian cuisine is based primarily on grains and vegetables.
There are also two very different kinds of what is usually called "Russian" cuisine: the cuisine of common people and Russian aristocracy's cuisine. Borsch and shchi are the first kind, while olivie salad and caviar are the second. Dishes from the Russian aristocracy cuisine were influenced by European cuisines and could contain a lot of meat, like beef stroganoff, but usually, they are significantly more refined than just a bunch of grilled meat from Turkic people's cuisine.
There is also so-called "Soviet" cuisine, which is a fusion of dishes from Russian and several other national cuisines that were served in cafeterias and restaurants during the USSR. Most of the food served in Russia nowadays is that kind. Thus, cheburek could be called a part of traditional Soviet cuisine, but it's definitely not a traditional Russian or Slav dish. 🙂

I’m not against t totally, but I really don’t like the fact that people in America keep asking me if I’m gay and they expect me to say yes otherwise they will consider me a traitor to the country. Whereas in Russia you can openly speak out against LGBT and no one will frown at you and in fact a lot of people there support being straight so in a way it’s pretty much a social heaven for straight people. Thanks for the update, Eric. It's interesting to follow along as you acclimate to your new home. Two points. The first, remember that, in any country, interest rates, whether on deposits or loans, are really just a reflection of the banks' inflation expectations. So high returns on saving deposits are not really a plus. That just tells you that inflation is going to be a little higher than that. Likewise, soaring mortgage or loan rates show you how much inflation risk the banks feel they need to shield themselves from. So high-rate environments don't generally mean better actual returns, just a more frantic game of financial whack-a-mole. The second point: when people stare at you, stare back. Better yet, smile or wave or say hello. Either they smile back, or get spooked and remember to mind their own business - a win either way. It works every time for me!

Russian banks have a lot of loan offers. For example, a bank offers a credit card worth more than $22,000 with a 180-day grace period. Also, cash back on debit cards 5-10%. And also, interest rates on savings deposits from 16-21% per annum. In addition, your money will be insured. Russia undertakes to protect and refund 2.8 million rubles or $30,000 per person in the event of a bank bankruptcy. If you open an account for each family member for $ 30,000, then all the money has 100% insurance. Although it is unlikely that something will happen to such Russian banks as Sberbank, Gazprombank, VTB or Tinkoff Bank or Alfa Bank.

Nor are they, strictly speaking, a Slavic food (Turkish çiğ börek, pronounced CHEE burr-ECK, means "raw pie", meaning you take it as raw and just throw it into the boiling oil whenever convenient, and that's basically it).
      Then... "So what?"
Not exactly healthy, if eaten daily.
      But delicious. 😊
Eating whatever is good but retaining consciousness and due common sense is THE thing.

On delivery time - consumerism here at it's best too. Just get to bigger city or the capital and you can get groceries delivery in 20-30 min timeline. Or you can get night delivery the same night you've ordered. Like you can wake up at 1 am, decide to surf through blenders and you want to buy one and with some market places it is possible that you'll get in within several hours right away even at night. It is collaboration of night shift at storages and taxi logistics of delivery.

    Respect 💪
