Sample is the primary blocking TE. The Bengals use a blocking TE quite a bit. Sample is one of the best blockers in football. And he plays fullback and H Back sometimes too. Very versitile. And he can also catch the ball and score.
Ossai and Murphy are the direct backups and will be rotated in a lot. They should each play at least 400 snaps. Johnson will get some play too. I believe that Ossai is going to have from 8-10 sacks this year and Murphy will have 7.5-9 sacks this year. I think both of them are going to break out at the same time.
Aron Casey that UDFA LB we git out of Indiana is a beast. In college he was phenomenal. I would love to see him make the team next season or this season. I think Harper has the lead for LB5 though.
Irwin is a pros pro and has earned trust. That role needs to block and run a variety of routes. Irwin will be wr3 week 1 as he won’t let this opportunity go this pre season. Yoshi will keep playing more during the year and will eventually be a starter if he keeps on this path.
@SwampFox-m8v I get that, but skill is my reasoning. Drew is a good blocker, but Mike is/was a good receiving TE time will tell tho. Ultimately, it will depend on play style this year. If it's spread/ shotgun like it has been, then I feel like Mike over sample, but if they go under center more like they have mentioned, then I could see sample having the edge
Wow the Drew Sample disrespect is palpable. Do you know anything about Drew Sample? In 2020 when Uzomah was out all year Sample had 40 catches for 400 yards and a TD. He is a top 5 blocking TE in football per PFF. He is big at 6’5’’ 255 he is reasonably fast. He is a good all around player. I think Sample should be TE2 though.
Last training camp Tycen Anderson had a lot of interceptions and in the pre season had 2 interceptions. Anthony is 6’ 195 which is an ok size for a safety and runs 4.55 which is ok too. Tycen Anderson is 6’2’’ 210 and runs 4.36!! He would be the untimaye free safety. A guy who is a big as a small linebacker who is faster than most CBs.
I’ve seen funny stuff like Sample over Gesicki over the years, I don’t think it means anything. Same with Irwin, they’ll ease the rookie in and he’ll probably take the job if he performs.
Chris Evans is better at running routes and catching the ball than running the ball. He is ok at running it too but is rather exceptional at catching. I don’t know why they haven’t used him more for this. I don’t think they ever fully developed that trust with him. He has several long td cstches from Burrow since he arrived in 2021.
I think they should make Matt Lee bulk up a little bit and try him at guard and keep him as backup center. Trey Hill has never impressed me much. And why do they have Eric Miller as the backup RG? He is a tackle if I have ever seen one at 6’8’’ 310 lbs.
Kris Jenkins will surpass Carter this year. He is a better player than Carter. Although maybe Carter has turned a corner this year. I don’t know. I hope McKinnly Jackson isn’t seriously hurt. If he is then I would probably go with either Dominique Davis or Travis Bell before Tufele. Tufele has shown me very little since 2022 when he got here.

Tycen Anderson will be on the team. You can take it to the bank. Not only was he a 5th round draft pick but the Bengals traded up to select him higher in round 5 that they were picking. Now they may keep 5 safeties and 5 CBs. It all depends on if Anderson is ready to go right away after his injury last year. And last year before he got hurt he was the Bengals best special Teams player and it wasn’t even close. If he starts the season on the Pup list Anthony is in. If They keep 5 safeties Anthony is in. I think they only keep 4 safeties and 6 CBs.
You must have just started following the Bengals or something Stone. Jackson Carmans best position is Left Tackle. That’s where he played for 3 years at Clemson and that’s where he has played his best ball in the NFL. Carman isn’t getting cut.
It’s very simple. They almost always take team veterans followed by tenure when they do the charts. This has nothing to do with snaps and playing time going into the season. It’s mainly done out of respect for tenured veterans… that’s it and that simple.
I believe Deante Smith will be cut and maybe signed to the practice squad. He has started 1 game and played in 3 games in his 3 years. He has been as close to nothing as you can get. He is always getting hurt. Jackson Carman hasn’t been hurt and stepped into the meat grinder in the playoffs in 2022 and helped get us to the AFC Championship again. He has started like 15 games and played in 30 games. But his only problem is he is way better at LT than he is at any other spot. He can play RT and G just not as well.
Makes sense because Dax played nickel at Michigan not outside CB. The Bengals seem to be trying to make this guy play everywhere except where he is good. He needs to be the backup nickel this year and the starter next year. Jalen Davis needs to be dropped.
No one on. the depth chart can play or start on any other team , yes that bad, trent Irwin has no speed and can’t separate and no backups for OL positions, very scary thoughts for joe Burrow
Will Trenton Irwin be WR3 for the Bengals? Type ‘Y’ for Yes, ‘N’ for No

Andrei Iosivas will be WR3. Trenton Irwin will be the primary WR backup. Burton, Jones and maybe Butler will be role players.
I like Kwammie and Shedrick Jackson more than Butler but I guess we will see who shines more at preseason
I would go with Iosivas as well
Never mind after pre season I would take Hakeem butler
Wouldn’t miss it.
Charlie Jones is a lock to make the team because he is our Punt returner for sure and maybe our kickoff returner too.
Definitely a lock

Orlando please stay healthy! 🤣

One word reaction is "How?" Sample wasn't even TE1 last year. He played behind Hudson
He injured too
Hudson is the best receiving TE on this team. He possibly has the best hands amongst the whole team. He drops NOTHING.
Irwin is a pros pro and has earned trust. That role needs to block and run a variety of routes. Irwin will be wr3 week 1 as he won’t let this opportunity go this pre season. Yoshi will keep playing more during the year and will eventually be a starter if he keeps on this path.
I don’t think Trent is going to be the wr3 in heading into week 1 and I think with cam sample out this give Cedric Johnson a shot a making the roster
Sample TE 1 because his skills in Blocking
Carman is a must-keep! Especially considering T.Brown's injury risk
Enjoy what we're doing at Bengals Breakdown by @chatsports ? LIKE the video!
The DE’s will be Hendrickson, Hubbard, Ossai, Murphy, and Cedric Johnson. Those will be the 5 that make the team.
Drew Sample on running plays
Trenton Irwin will hold the#3 spot

As a bengals fan and a cortland student, I really want to see Cole burgess

Shock 😲
One-word reaction to Sample being listed as TE1?
Nope
Wow
Really?
GOAT
Blocker
Shocked on sample over Gesicki
Why? It’s out of respect for veterans over rookies and newbies … nothing more
@SwampFox-m8v I get that, but skill is my reasoning. Drew is a good blocker, but Mike is/was a good receiving TE time will tell tho. Ultimately, it will depend on play style this year. TE 3 at best
Logan Woodside was a 7th round pick by the Bengals in 2018. He also played for the Titans and Falcons.
Carman is on the rise!!!!!!
I will be watching
I suspect Jenkins will beat out Hill and Carter to become a starter fairly early on.
Last training camp Tycen Anderson had a lot of interceptions and in the pre season had 2 interceptions. Anthony is 6’ 195 which is an ok size for a safety and runs 4.55 which is ok too. I think Jaxson Kirkland has a good chance to make the team. He played RT and LT and Guard in college and was 1st team All PAC 12 3 times at RT, LG.
I think they should make Matt Lee bulk up a little bit and try him at guard and keep him as backup center. Trey Hill has never impressed me much. And why do they have Eric Miller as the backup RG? He is a tackle if I have ever seen one at 6’8’’ 310 lbs.

100% agree. He is a ST standout and still has some real potential as a safety with his athletic ability.

Sample and Gesiki aren’t playing the same position. Sample #1 blocking TE. Gesiki #1 receiving TE
