      Most holding is not strategic enough to be concentrated on a single player. Garrett might get held more than most since he seems to attack from a nine-wide technique a lot, at least in this video. The dude is definitely a "handful."

    Yes, his "bend" without losing his angle on the QB is phenomenal. Being that quick off the line means the LT is backpedaling right from the snap. This denies the blocker any chance to maintain a position of strength by bending his knees and waist. This turns stopping Garrett into "Dancing with the Stars," where Myles has the lead and opposing linemen have no choice but to follow the two-time All-Pro wherever he decides to go. During his career (2017-23), Garrett trails only T.J. Watt in sacks, 85.5 to 80. The Browns DE has been more consistent, with double-digit sacks five straight seasons, and is on pace for 17-18 in 2023.

    So, this is a fantastic video. That said, to me this shows more that Garrett is the best pass "pure" rusher. That is the most valuable skill, but I don't think that automatically makes him the best defender.
    To me the comparison (contrast) with T.J. Watt is the clearest. As your chart nicely showed Watt is not close to Garrett at his ability to generate instant pressure. The fits with all the film I've seen of both. And yes, instant pressure is the best kind of pressure and the type that controls the most for circumstance.
    But...sacking someone 4 seconds into a dropback is still really valuable! While these kind of sacks are much more random as a general matter, Watt has now shown year-in-year out that he can navigate through pockets and take down QBs who are scrambling, trying to step up, etc; Often those sacks are preventing QBs from hitting big plays thanks to WRs having gotten open. So, by removing pressure generated later on from the analysis you're skewing against the players who have a genuine skill at creating pressure later-on in the play.
    I do think Garrett is better, but I also think it's a smaller gap than this kind of comparison would suggest (and, similarly, I think you can make a real case for either of Bosa or Parsons, rather Garrett being a slam-dunk over the two of them).

    • @markhenry2558
      @markhenry2558 Год назад +3

      The main difference is right now Garrett is averaging pressure at an absurd 2.1 seconds. So before receivers are into their routes or plays even develop Garrett is already at the QB. QBs have no options so they are just throwing balls into the dirt

So far this season our three corners are playing like pro ballers and Grant Delpit is performing like an all pro. As a Browns fan, our Dline is definitely excellent this season. However, our coverage is the reason we could bliz more and overload the front to gives Myles more opportunities to have one on one with an OT

      Part of that though can be attributed to Garret and the rest of the D-Line. When the QB is constantly forced to rush their throw because Garret is relentlessly in their face, it helps the secondary a great deal.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W Год назад

      It goes hand in hand. Its a similar approach to Howie building the Eagles defense in recent years. Though he put more emphasis on trench talent/depth and getting the right athletes to play corners. Schwartz knows his secondary is overall talented enough so he plays them straight up man and can use Delpit as a box safety. Hell the secondary is also good with run defense which in of itself is an asset. So in passing downs the defensive trench talents and Myles can just make their money.

      No. Well, actually he does have...what 6 or 8 more sacks at this point, but that's not why he's better. He's more complete. He's a disruptor and game changer. He literally does everything better than Garrett. Everything. Especially when the game is on the line.

    He hasn't lead the league in sacks once in his career, nor has he won a DPOY. Until then TJ is the best pass rusher in the league

      Cuz it's rigged and he is constantly held. TJ faces one on ones. Garret faces double and triple teams. Look at how the Ravens played Myles vs the way they played TJ the following week. You sound clueless.

      Not a single NFL DC or coach would take TJ Watt over Myles Garrett.

    • @theangrypelican5270
      @theangrypelican5270 Год назад

      Thats fine. Myles is still the best DE in the league regardless. Watt is an OLB relying one-on-ones, and DPOY is handed out based on basic box score stats that casual fans understand, like sacks. Not things like efficiency against double and triple teams.
      Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett are both better at their positions than Watt is at his.
