Excuse me, but I'd like to ask where you got such a high quality version of north korea's 40th anniversary parade. If you could give me in its full entirety I'll be very grateful. Thanks!
The footage is from a Polish Documentary from 1989 called "Defilada", there is are multiple youtube videos of this documentary with slightly worse quality. Hope this helped :)
Any video shot on actual film can be scanned to hd or uhd using modern equipment as film captures light impressions in chemicals rather than capturing a set resolution.
You can see how things were better in the 1980s. Everything here looks cleaner and better maintained, the people are noticeably better fed and healthier looking, the electricity is also more reliable. The DPRK had a higher quality of life and stronger economy than the South until the USSR collapsed.
South Korea had a better economy and higher quality of life than North Korea. As of 1991 when the USSR collapse, South Korea had like the 12th largest economy in the world so you're saying by 1991. North Korea was in the top 20th largest economy??
@@seunghyukjung628North Korea was ahead of South Korea's economy but both started with nothing but the 1980's South Korea grew and 1988 it pulled away South Korea. North Korea did a series of terrorist attacks to South Korea and anything to one up itself. 1983 Rangoon bombing 1987 Korean Air flight 858 bombing (That one tired to derail the 1988 Summer Olympics) 1989 international festival of youth and students that North Korea held tried to show North Korea was the better Korea but it wasn't
Several decades ago, in the 50s and 70s, North Korea began rebuilding the country And back then, North Korea was richer than South Korea because back then, Korea had not yet industrialized North Korea industrialized earlier than South Korea It is even classified as a rich country in Asia along with Japan
Back in the days when Soviet Union still had the back of North Korea and North Korea itself was still a country that actually functioned properly........
Perhaps the peak of North Korea and its Jucheism, or at least its grand finale before the big crash. For the people of the DPRK it was still a time of some prosperity and most importantly hope. Even though the economy had essentially stagnated since the mid 1970s the general populace were still far better off than they had been in decades before, or the following decades. Barely a half century earlier the Korean people had lived repressed under Imperial Japan, in conditions comparative to feudal serfs. And after the Japanese occupation would come even worse times with the Korean War. Years of fighting and destruction, millions dead and essentially the entire country in ruins from warfare and constant bombings. And then, almost miraculously, a renaissance and economic boom in the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Rapid industrialisation, rising standards of living, education and health care. Outpacing their southern neighbours who were also fraught with constant instability, coups and political violence. And even though the economy slumped from the mid 70s, they general population still had a decent standard of living, not at all uncomparable to South Korea. The 1988 celebrations depicted here (the 40th anniversary) and the World Festival of Yourh and Students in 1989 were extravagant spectacles, to show the best that DPRK could offer. And in just a few years it would all have turned to ashes. The collapse of the Communist Bloc, disintegration of the Soviet Union and liberalisation of China (as well as the debts from hosting said festivals) essentially broke North Korea and its economy. Gone were the secure and stable post-war times, with the 90s came rapid economic decline, famines, rolling and constant blackouts, a crisis not seen in the country since the Korean War. Even if North Korea eventually recovered somewhat, not even today it has the same standard of living as in 1989, and any illusions or hope for a better future or dreams of being equal with the South are gone.
North Korea doesnt need to match South Koreas economy to succeed in beating them. In fact its not desirable to aspire to be like the south. Rampant consumeristic culture, overworking and anti family and anti children environment which ensures the korean conflict will be resolved by the Souths demographic collapse. (Which will also sink its economy).
@@CobraRedstone but NK also has a declining birthrate and its population is already the half of SK, of course SK has ten billions of economical and societal problems it needs to solve before worrying about NK as well, but it's clear both nation are collapsing and in crisis, Korean history is complex and forever marked by japanese imperialism and their roles in the Cold War, there is no "better" half, just a population who is still dealing with a century of colonialism and dictatorships
