    Apologies for the background music in this video. It was recommended to have a music bed way back when I did this video. I used it on one other but never after and there are over 110 videos (more added too as time goes on) in my How to Draw Playlist.
    Have fun with all the videos and your drawing - here is the playlist link to all the videos.

    I started taking drawing seriously about a month ago and have since become obsessed with drawing, I thought I was weird for enjoying drawing circles and ellipses over and over again, it's nice to know someone as skilled as yourself did the same. Thanks for the videos, they have helped me to enjoy the process rather than obsess about perfection to the point I wasn't having fun.

    I used to draw a lot when I was a kid but had a loss of direction. I also became discouraged when I started seeing other people's drawings and paintings. Somewhere over the years, I started making short stories but wanted to bring life to them and turn them into comics. I had the idea of creating characters but I was having a lot of issues with getting the body types together and detailing faces. I dropped the ball again and wanted to go back to the drawing board (hehe....art joke) on learning how to do character creation. I stumbled across your video and it really helps. Thanks so much for reminding me to "enjoy" drawing. My tenseness is gone now and I have an easier approach to drawing all sorts of things (including back grounds. Thanks so much! *subscribed*

    when i was about 4-6 years old, i loved drawing houses and girls and trees. i used to think i could really draw well until i went to preschool and saw how better my classmates' works were. i became sad, and kind of gave up on drawing. now that i'm 13, still bad at drawing, perhaps i'll give it one last try thanks to this video. such a great help 💘

      +Penelope Cruz I hope you have carried on drawing - just enjoy it and get better over time. Sorry for the delay in replying as I only just got notified of your comment!
      I have been doing new 'How to Draw' videos using the characters out of the new 'Inside Out' film.
      I use them to show you how to have 'Joy' in your drawing. Not to get 'Angry' when things go wrong and you make mistakes (as I do sometimes too). To not have 'Sadness' when you art is going how you want it to. Not to be 'Fear'ful of of drawing new subjects and then finally don't get 'Disgusted' with your art.
      Joy, Anger and Sadness are online now. Then Fear and Disgust are coming in the next two weeks.
      So here are the links to the new vids - enjoy.

    Hi Billy, I am an artist and have also written a couple of books on the subject, but I must say 'Snap' with your ideas and mine. You are like a wonderful breath of fresh air and a great teacher. Now entering into my 85th year, I honestly cannot remember when I started, but my Dear Mother said I was drawing well by the age of two. (Think that may have been my Dear Mothers pride), but I did sell my first drawing at age eleven. Whatever I draw or paint, the thrill has never left me, even though I may be disappointed by the finished result lol. Every success to you Billy.

      I am only just past half way in my artistic journey compared to your lifelong legacy. That is so lovely what you have commented on here. I have the thoughts of 'Can I still do this?...' every time I get to a new piece. We are always wanting to do better and improve in our art. Thank you again so much for your kind words and continued success to you with your art too. I say to many folks that it is a lifelong journey and your life is testimony to that.
      Kind regards,
      Billy

      @@theartofbilly Hi Billy obviously a 'Do It Now' man like myself, as my dear Grandfather taught me. Your comments are greatly appreciated and I look forward to more videos from you. I have been asked so many times to do some videos, but alas, most of the technology passes over my head. I am okay with emails and posting artwork on line, but that is it. I do not have a website either, but a well known artist once said 'You are the original organic artist" Which I took as a compliment (hope it was lol and this has stuck).
      This is because I do not measure whatever I draw and paint and use only the three primaries. My book Why Measure? Only came about from my live classes, where a high number of first time students had an Eureka moment and requested it in book form. The book itself is bad in every way Except it does what it says on the tin, Providing you work the method and exercises and not just read it. Sadly, the three local galleries where I was exhibiting and teaching have now closed and I have not the energy or heart to look for replacements, so for the last two years, financially, has been quite a drop, although I had a very successful holiday in Spain October last year with nine portrait commissions in the week I was there. Sorry Billy ,I rattle on, please forgive me. Would really be great to meet you in person one day. Sincerely, Daniel McGowan

    you're an absolute angel. I love drawing and I have been drawing for years now but my art teacher (best art teacher I've ever had) had gotten me so used to using the grid method (which is very time-consuming) that when it got time for me to start using freehand I just couldn't it just didn't feel right at all I would always be too tense and just put it aside to never work on it again. listening to this video and following through with all the tips and understanding shapes more really helped me and I just really want to thank you. this truly helped me a lot and it was such a good stress relief as well. sorry that this is so long I just had to get this out. • @theartofbilly
      @theartofbilly  8 лет назад +5

      +Azzoz Kaaki Yes learning to draw shapes and normal everyday objects will then help you to create any fantasy creature that you want to produce later. All the top fantasy artists use human or animal models to build up their fantasy subjects. So using a Rhinoceros for example to become an armoured battle animal that an Ogre would ride is a good thing for fantasy art. So drawing animals at a Zoo will help you to develop.
      Also learning to draw humans you can then 'add' or increase muscles and limbs to become whatever kind of creature you desire.
      Have fun with your art and all the best for your future career :)

    This video is so helpful and practical. I'm trying to get back into drawing by hand after only making digital art for work. This reminds me of the old drawing shows I used watch as a kid. Thank you!!!

    I'm 30 with no talent but I've always wanted to learn how to draw and this video is really interesting to me. I've ordered some basic supplies (pencils, sharpener, rubber, paper) and I can't wait to get started.

    hey how do you draw the scenes like factory one, first take photograph, or through visual memory?

    • @theartofbilly
      @theartofbilly  6 лет назад +1

      I do a mixture of drawings on the spot and take photographs. Even very basic notes in a sketchbook if something specific needs to be remembered which you may miss in a photograph.

    Your drawings are fantastic!! I am very inspired that you are left-handed!!! Just like me, but I find it difficult to follow Caligraphy and other tutorials when the person is right-handed, so this is fabulous to find a left-handed artist !!! YAHHHHHHH!!
