I read elsewhere in this comment section that White Day evolved from a marketing ploy to sell marshmallows, like how in the US Valentine's Day is supposedly THE DAY to buy chocolates? And because people found it more convenient, the "approved present list" expanded to white chocolate, and then to the value-based gifting you mention?

Might be because of Yin and Yang and while it's not completely clear which part or color represents which gender it's mostly assumed that yin is black/female and yang is white/male, so the best I can come up with is that the partners give something of themselves to the relationship and their lover and since the female is mostly represented as black - dark chocolate while male is mostly white - white chocolate. Could be any other explanation.

I'm really glad they added this day. I always thought valentine's day in the original wasn't quite as romantic as i would have wanted, especially since it's the last time you get to spend time with your girlfriend, but White day is very sweet.
I am so glad I was patient enough to romance her. Felt so screwed not being able to take her places for most of the game, but Valentines and White Day really made up for it.

Brojiro is the chad I aspire to be so badly after seeing him. Dude’s chill as hell (and really deep, some of his advice works really well in the real world, go figure), and his smirk is nothing short of a healthy dose of daily chuckling.
I find it funny that the girls keep assuming that the main protag but alot of time and prep into this when he basically just remembered about White day the day before and was panicking because he didn't have a plan until Sojiro came in for the last minute save lol.
Don't get me wrong though all of these scenes are great and if the protag actually did remember sooner then he probably would have planned this and probably even went bigger than this too. I just thought it was funny thought
