That’s both cowardice and crass stupidity.
Doing a boycott won’t influence Severn Trent in any way and rod licence funds are ring fenced to fisheries tasks and operations alone.
So what’s the benefit of a boycott that can gain you a criminal record and severe implications for any employment queries, official applications, insurance claims etc?

Saying yes is one thing- actually committing it to action is a question of reality.
Like so much in angling, it’s all words and so little real commitment to protecting our sport and apathy rules.
If all the commentators wrote to The PM’s office directly and copied their letters to both the BBC and ITV before the elections, that will highlight the problem for real.
Nailing the Canvassing MP and wannabes as to what they will actually do in office and being held to their word is also vital along with the warning if they fail to deliver will be public exposure as having lied to gain votes.

@@keithwilliams1853 having worked for the environment agency I've experienced first hand the self serving jobs worths that sit behind desks doing nothing to help with the current water quality issues. Rod licence money is distributed throughout the departments as middle management feels fit without addressing the serious issues within the industry. Each water authority "lease's" their abstraction and discharge licence from the government and turns that water into massive, and I mean massive profits (Yorkshire water made £54 million from a £100,000 licence when I was there). A boycott would raise these issues with the people of Britain and hopefully get a serious shake up of the middle man (the EA).
With regards my take on reality, I've been trained as a fisheries scientist but since left the industry (and the country ((I've become European)) as banging my head against a brick wall becomes tiresome and just gave me a headache.
Personally I don't really care about the UK anymore, it's fuelled by greed, Nobody has balls or a spine. Swim in sewage if you want. It's your river, not mine. Do nothing if you want, I really couldn't care less. A rod licence boycott is needed but won't happen because the people of Britain are pussies.

    • @keithwilliams1853
      @keithwilliams1853 5 месяцев назад

You fail to note as an angler that the EA has multiple departments and Pollutions are managed by their Environment Officers who are not out patrolling rivers mile by mile as its not possible. The issue is one of a lack of resources, manpower and funding, all caused by the likes of your MP, who is one of many thats failed to correct the failings in legislation and thus allow the water companies to pollute at will. Point the finger at the real problem and maybe anglers will get a better outcome. Rod licence income is ring fenced to fisheries project, fish rearing and enforcement by a vastly reduced force. If you have any better suggestion, feel free to tell your MP and copy it into the EA.

Why aren’t we taking action as a group!!
I cannot imagine any other developed nation allowing this, the French wouldn’t tolerate it for sure and as a regular visitor to North America, their lakes and rivers are pristine. About time we took action and started blocking and disrupting these outflows.

£3.2m well spent on the Chief Execs salary! The EA is toothless- deprived of £ and. Staff.
Fish Legal need to be able to demonstrate damage and if it doesn’t result in an acute fish kill how do they do that?
Privatisation of an essential utility as a monopoly and a weak regulatory framework was a disaster waiting to happen.
WHAT WILL YOUR MP DO? If the past is any thing to go by NOTHING!!

The Angling comminity across all rivers in England and Wales must demand that at the worst known hotspots Water Quality Monitoring System (WQMS) which is a facility to measure pollutants such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Phosphates (TP), Total Nitrogen (TN) etc. The required parameters are customized according to the type of factory and discharge regulations. Invariably this would mean the deployment of a A smart water monitoring system that uses several sensors to detect water quality. However, the top 5 sensors used in water quality monitoring systems are- pH sensor, turbidity sensor, TDS sensor, chloride sensor, and temperature sensor, not cheap and would have to be Vandal proofed and collected evidence collated on a daily regular basis. Then Prosecutions would be fully supported by real evidence.

One wonders what would happen if the pipe is blocked with concrete or whatever so it cannot discharge its evil mixture direct into the river. Let's hope the fish have moved away and that the flora and fauna recover.

Doesn’t look like a pipe from a waste water processing site. I use to fish in the foam from next to the outlet and catch great barbel, doubt it’s untreated if it i. Being controversial everyone is outraged but no one wants to pay more for our water bills to solve it. It’s the most valuable resource that takes a significant amount of cost/energy to handle clean and waste water . Most people are happy to spend twice the amount fuelling their cars each month than they pay for water each year. Also the regulator bureaucracies Ofwat etc are killing water companies with their broken policies. They penalise companies if they can’t meet targets by not allowing them to increase prices, hence water companies struggle to gain and invest for the future and achieve all targets. In the meantime uncontrolled immigration and ridiculous population growth since Blair’s incompetence have put massive pressure on water, nhs, benefits, housing, security, transport, education and utilities. It’s complex

FYI, while there is a big eddy on that side, just be aware that there is just upstream of the eddy where the exposed rocks are is a gully with storm water outflow, which also serves to drain land upon which the school is built and the recreation field are (former marsh), so is running 24h\day, anyway it seams starting about ~25 years ago, one or more houses fitted toilets that instead of going into the sewer main, instead fed into the storm water main, but as it is only 1 or 2 toilets its no great priority, and as such ends up in the river just above the eddy, I gave up complaining, as there is ambiguity over responsibility, myself as landowner of the gully I cant force the council or ST to do anything.
that pipe you see can only output treated water, it cant output any solids etc, and is only in operation as an overflow when treated water is inundated and soakaways cant cope.
its an easy target to blame ST given then antics of some water company's more than others, but keep in mind as that eddy has been a feature there for the almost half century of my recollection when the river it low, it has always attracted the development of "scum" before that pipe even existed, though back then the river would on-average be higher for most of the year.

Ray Walton and the Barbel Society have jointly been saying that exactly and asking all anglers to support the case for many years. Unfortunately the sport has a bad case of apathy and they have been so badly ignored. Now look where we are !
